The reason they got rid of this is because they know that low rated movies and TV shows will never get any views or watches. Now you just got to have your phone out the entire time browsing IMDB to see if a movie/show is good or not.

No, it’s because you could tell how controversial a video was. Slopaganda videos with 10,000 likes? You don’t see that there’s 100,000 dislikes.

The thing is, it doesn't matter. They only care if you've watched it. They don't care if it was hate watching or whatever

Advertisers care. That’s who they cater too.

Who said anything about hate watching? I frequently click right out the moment i see a high dislike ratio (and highly rated top comment criticizing it), especially for tutorial stuff.

Until recently, Youtube doesn't count instant leave viewcounts

Person above me seeems to be talking about the end user experience. I didn’t make it clear, but the implication is that Advertisers very much care about if the public sees the dislikes.

yeah, and i do see the distinction, but i'd categorize both under "the open review system results in some content being (fairly) prejudiced against and we're not in the business of helping people find stuff they want to watch, we're in the business of making content get watched."

Bad news: IMDB was bought by Amazon.

It was brought by Amazon in 1998. I doubt many people remember what it was like as an independent company.

Actually, it was because of Amy Schumer's comedy special that was trashed for good reason. And like you mentioned, Netflix was protecting its investment since they paid her millions for that garbage.

Imagine thinking this is why....

The reason they got rid of it was that people didn’t realize the five-star ratings were dynamic and based on their own ratings.

So people who generally rated things lower saw other shows given low ratings because it was predicting the rating that user would give it.

I started using Peacock a few months ago, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had RT scores for their movies and tv shows.
