I have a small web game, that is hosted on one of those free website hosting sites. It uses php for the users input and connecting to the database. Is this something I need to patch, or is it something the web host will patch? I am not savvy in this area so I don’t know if this is a problem for me or not

If this is a fully managed hosting, they are responsible to do this. You can send a support ticket to ask about the status.

Otherwise it's your full responsibility.
