Self-Promotion Wednesdays AudioRouter (free, open source): visual audio routing for Windows. Mic, noise gate , EQ , Discord, headphones and a recording at once

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi, I'm the developer of AudioRouter. I game on Windows, and every audio setup I tried meant either decoding mixer strips and bus buttons, or clicking through several Windows sound panels. I wanted to see where my audio goes and change it while it plays, so I built AudioRouter. I use it every day for my own setup.

You put sources on the left (microphone, a game, Spotify, a file), outputs on the right (headphones, Discord through a virtual cable, a recorder) and tools in between. The lines are the routing, and they pulse with the level while it plays. Everything is live, so you can tweak an EQ while you talk.

What's in it:
 - 30+ built-in tools: noise gate, denoise, de-hum, a 16-point EQ, compressor, limiter, pitch, a voice changer, recording to WAV/FLAC/MP3
 - Your own VST2/VST3 effects, each in its own process, so a crashing plugin can't take your audio down
 - Capture a single app (just the game, just the browser)
 - Send audio between two PCs on your network (gaming PC → streaming PC)
 - Stream Deck plugin, a local HTTP API and a command line

It's free, GPL-3.0, with no account and no telemetry.

Limits: Windows 11 x64 only; it's an early preview, so expect rough edges; the installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows shows a SmartScreen warning (the download page explains it) and sending audio into Discord or OBS still needs a virtual cable such as VB-Cable.

I'd love feedback on what's confusing when you first open it.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays Better Stickies v1.4 is out now with macOS release, play audio inside a note and much more!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello,

Release post: https://betterstickies.com/blog/betterstickies-1-4

For full changelog: https://betterstickies.com/changelog

What it is, for anyone new

It is a note taking app with super cool exclusive features while it looks and acts as sticky notes app. It works on Windows, Linux, macOS (soon). Offline, no account, no telemetry. Built with PySide6 so it's actually native, not another Electron app eating your RAM.

This app is a hidden gem and I am not exaggerating, I received so much positive reviews to be confident when I say this, it looks like a sticky note but does much more than you could think a sticky note app could do and it can replace all complex note taking apps if you aren't into that type of productivity.

The main thing it does that other sticky apps don't: you can paste or drag anything into a note.

  • Files and folders become clickable shortcuts, and you can drag them back out to your file manager
  • Screenshots and images paste straight from the clipboard, PDFs and images get a hover preview, and double-click opens an image at full resolution
  • Audio files and play audio inside notes, supports mp3, opus, flac, wav files
  • Pasted code gets detected and formatted into a code block automatically, no AI and no network, in about 50ms. Ctrl+M when it guesses wrong
  • Rich text, links, plain text, all formatted properly instead of rejected

The second thing it does so well over other stickies apps: customization, you can customize font, colors, transparency, add background image or even a moving GIF per each note, a real delight to use

Notes have tabs. Up to three pages inside one note, each with its own text, scroll position and undo history. Ctrl+PgDown and Ctrl+PgUp to move between them, Ctrl+Shift+N for a new one, all rebindable. If you have a small screen this is the feature: one note on the desktop, three notes' worth of content in it.

Other things it does exceptionally well:

  • Reminders with sound and desktop notifications
  • GIF and image backgrounds per note (because why not)
  • RTL text support, and the app plus its full guide are in 12 languages
  • Pin a note to lock both position and editing
  • Ctrl+scroll to zoom text without opening settings
  • Checkboxes with strikethrough when done and nesting
  • Snap to grid with an adjustable grid size
  • Export to .txt, .md or .json, so you can back them up with whatever cloud you like
  • Proper Linux support, tested on KDE, GNOME and Cinnamon (COSMIC coming)
  • On the Microsoft Store and the Snap store, Flathub coming soon

The free version now has exactly one limit. It used to have three: a note cap, a reminders cap, and a cap on animated GIF backgrounds. The reminder and GIF limits are gone entirely, so the free version now has every feature, and the only thing left is a budget of 4 note slots (an extra tab uses a slot).

Paid version is very generous and cheap, it costs currently $8 and you get the premium version without any limits, free updates, unlimited devices, and also windows, linux and macOS builds so you won't pay again if you move from windows to linux or use both.

This a side project for me and I don't intend to milk it, I want it to be sustainable to survive. The price is low to keep it accessible, not because the quality of the app is low, this not a vibe coded app and if you give it a try, you will understand the difference between Better Stickies and other Stickies apps.

As always, if you try it and something annoys you, tell me here. Most new features and fixes are built on users feedback (tens of thousands are using BetterStickies today)

Self-Promotion Wednesdays Before sorting a photo collection: six checks I recommend, plus my Windows app

I'm Michał from GridMotive, the developer of MomentShelf, a paid Windows photo organiser built with help from Codex. For Self-Promotion Wednesday, here is a checklist you can use with any photo-organising tool before trusting it with a large collection.

  1. Keep a separate backup before reorganising. An organised copy on the same disk is useful for reviewing changes, but it is not an independent backup if that disk fails. Start with a separate destination and keep the source collection until you have checked the result.

  2. Check where the dates came from. A camera capture timestamp, file modification time and a manually estimated date answer different questions. Exporting or copying files can change file-system dates. Scans and cloud exports deserve a sample check before sorting everything into year/month folders.

  3. Run a small mixed-format sample. Include portrait and landscape images, your phone's actual file formats and a few videos if you use them. Check orientation, readable previews and whether the required codecs are installed. Don't discover a format problem halfway through a large job.

  4. Treat AI descriptions and person groups as proposals. Check the image yourself, avoid accepting invented relationships or locations, and confirm face groups before adding names. Local processing is a privacy choice; it does not make the model infallible.

  5. Compare the source and destination. Review file counts and errors; use checksums if you need to establish that copied files match exactly. If one photo appears in several curated person folders, count unique source files separately from the number of exported copies.

  6. Inspect the actual deliverable. Reopen an exported album PDF, check its page size and crop, and watch an exported video. For printing, check the physical size and printer scaling. Keep the source photographs separately from an album, reel or mosaic export.

MomentShelf combines a date-based copy plan or catalogue of existing files, reviewable local AI captions/tags/people groups, and virtual albums, printable album pages, MP4 reels and photo mosaics. The interface is English/Polish. Windows 11 x64 is recommended. The base Microsoft Store price is EUR 19.99 once, with no subscription; regional prices vary. AI speed depends on hardware and can take minutes per image on a low-power CPU. Some formats require separately installed Windows codecs.

Which check would you add before reorganising a family photo archive?

Self-Promotion Wednesdays Glassline 1.0.10 for Windows 11: Launchpad, Mac-style screenshots with Alt Shift 4, and the menu bar hides itself

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Glassline 1.0.10 is with Microsoft now and should land in a day 🎉 Launchpad, one-drag screenshots, dynamic glass, Wallpaper Engine support, a new app panel and a long list of fixes from the last days of testing. Yes, I said "biggest update yet" last time... and it happened again 😅 So here's everything in it.

New here? Glassline turns the Windows 11 taskbar into a glass menu bar at the top and a dock at the bottom, like on a Mac. You get Search on the Windows key, Control Center, your calendar and the weather right in the bar. Quit it whenever you want and your taskbar comes back exactly as it was. You can try it in your browser first.

Already using Glassline? 1.0.10 comes through the Store on its own once Microsoft approves it. I didn't want the update to change things under your feet, so the new stuff that changes how it works (the screenshot keys, the logo, the Calendar icon, the Wallpaper Engine colours and the two-sided bar text) starts switched off for you. The What's new pages after the update have a switch for each one, or you can turn them on in Settings.

Launchpad, like on a Mac

This one I'm really proud of. Click the Apps icon in the dock and it grows right out of the icon into a full screen of all your apps, page after page. Close it and it shrinks back into the dock.

Drag apps into any order, drop one on another to make a folder, click a folder's name to rename it. Search's grid button and All Apps open it too, and the Apps icon can go anywhere in your dock now. While Launchpad is open the dock and the menu bar get out of its way, and it has its own new icon.

Mac-style screenshots, finally done right

Alt Shift 4, drag over what you want, let go. Done.

No Snipping Tool window, no hunting for where the file went: it's on your desktop. A little preview slides into the corner and leaves on its own (click it to open the picture). Want it copied instead? Hold Ctrl when you let go of the drag. Alt Shift 3 grabs the whole screen and always saves it to your desktop. Works over games and admin apps too.

Dynamic glass

Every panel now picks up the colour of whatever is behind it: menus, Search, Control Center, Settings, Quick Look, the volume pop-up, and even the dock if you tint it. White page behind it? It goes light. Dark game? It goes dark.

The menu bar can also read the left and right side of your wallpaper separately, so a half light, half dark wallpaper stays readable.

  • Separate dock background (Settings, Appearance): the menu bar and the dock each get their own background slider, so you can have a fully clear menu bar over a glass dock. Someone here asked for exactly this 🙏
  • Tint the dock like the menu bar (Settings, Dock): when the bar takes a maximized app's colour, the dock takes it too

Wallpaper Engine support

A lot of you asked for this one. Glassline now works with Wallpaper Engine (Lively might too, but I've only tested Wallpaper Engine). The menu bar takes its colours from your animated wallpaper and keeps up when you switch. With more than one display each bar reads its own, whether you run a different wallpaper on each or one stretched over all of them.

Auto-hide for the menu bar

Like the dock already could: when a window is maximized, or always (Settings, Menu Bar). Push your mouse to the top and it comes back.

App panel

Click the app name in the menu bar and you get its windows, volume, recent files, Keep on Top and Quit (or Force Quit if it's frozen). It replaces the File/Edit menus, which honestly never worked well, sorry to whoever asked about those. Every app builds its menus its own way: I got older apps working, but Notepad and others had glitches that didn't look native at all.

Frozen apps also keep their name in the bar now, so you can Force Quit them right from there :D

New setup

Every feature has a little clip with its switch right next to it. Quick setup if you just want to get going, Show me everything if you want to see it all.

Your dock, your way

  • Calendar icon that always shows today's date and opens your calendar in one click
  • Bigger icons without a fatter dock: Dock size, Icon size and Margins are separate settings now, and the dock glides to its new size when you change them
  • The Windows key can show the dock, even over a full-screen app or game (Settings, Shortcuts)
  • Launch Options: right-click a pinned app in the dock to pick how it starts, like your browser always opening a private window
  • Start menu on the left? The dock slides out of its way

The menu bar

  • Logo menu on the far left: All Apps, Show Desktop, Task Manager, Sleep, Hibernate, Restart, Shut Down, and you can use your own picture for it. Show Desktop is in the bar's right-click menu too. Hibernate shows up when Windows has it on (someone here asked for it)
  • Your own date format: dd/MM, d MMM, yyyy-MM-dd, anything you type
  • Notifications either where Windows puts them, or top right under the bar like on a Mac, with a Test notification button so you can see where they land. They keep that spot even when the bar hides itself

Multiple monitors

I tested all of this on three displays, one of them left of the main one.

  • Drag icons between docks: with a dock on every display, drag an icon from one dock to another. If each dock shows its own display's apps, the app moves over and brings its windows with it
  • Drag a maximized window onto another display's dock and it lands maximized there
  • Full-screen video on one display while you play on another: the menu bar gets out of the video's way
  • Wuthering Waves could open as a window instead of borderless fullscreen on another display. Fixed
  • Swapping your main display no longer leaves a menu bar pushed halfway down the screen
  • Settings moved to a display with a different scale keeps the right size and colour

Today and Control Center

  • Only want the calendar? Today can show two months side by side, or the month with that day's events next to it
  • No more empty gaps in Control Center when you turn things off
  • Take Wi-Fi, Sound or Battery out of the menu bar and it shows up in Control Center instead, so it never disappears completely

Search

  • Translate into your preferred language: "translate apple" is enough
  • Single words translate a lot better now

Settings and accessibility

  • Follow Windows' animation effects (Settings, Accessibility): if you turned animations off in Windows, the dock and the menu bar calm down too
  • Reduce transparency now keeps the menu bar and the dock almost solid, like on a Mac
  • Shortcuts over admin apps: shortcuts without the Windows key now work even with Task Manager or a game running as admin in front, and Settings tells you when a combo is already taken
  • Settings explains itself: when one option changes what another does, there's a line under it with a link to the other one, and options that can't do anything right now are greyed out

Fixed, thanks to your reports

  • Hovering over a dock icon could crash Glassline. Not anymore
  • A rare crash tied to Bluetooth, gone
  • Your own shortcuts only worked once per run. Now they work every time
  • Show Desktop works every time, and brings back the window you had in front
  • Clicking the weather sometimes showed nothing until you pressed Alt+Tab. Fixed
  • Feedback sent while the website can't be reached (some networks block it during football matches, yes really) gets saved and sent later on its own
  • Over a maximized app the menu bar now takes exactly the app's colour: no more two-tone bar, no thin line of wallpaper under it
  • App icons in the menu bar (Discord, Steam...) were a bit blurry.
  • Spotify's icon had a small black bar under it while starting (it reports 0% progress and the dock drew an empty bar, Windows' taskbar doesn't)
  • ChatGPT's close and minimize buttons hid under the menu bar when it was maximized
  • The dock could stay black on the desktop after closing a maximized app
  • The app name over a dock icon could stay on screen when Start opened
  • Screenshots could close by themselves the moment they opened
  • Wallpaper Engine's settings window and HoYoPlay were treated as games
  • Cleanup tools like AdwCleaner no longer flag Glassline's uninstall helper
  • Keep the Windows taskbar on the side of the screen? No more nagging, and the menu bar fits around it
  • Changing Windows' display scale keeps the interface size you picked
  • Weather isn't fetched at all while the Weather switch is off
  • "Start Glassline when I sign in" now shows off if you disabled it in Windows' Startup apps
  • Lots of smaller fixes: tooltips that wouldn't show, the dock hiding again after Settings closes, and more

Honestly, most of this came from you, in the comments here and through Feedback. Glassline has around 30-40 users right now, and I'm really happy with how much you all help and throw ideas at me. I use it as my daily driver so I catch bugs too, but your reports and logs are gold (the Spotify one, for example). So thank you, and please keep them coming.

Get it

Glassline is $9.99, once. No subscription, every update free. Get it today and 1.0.10 shows up on its own as soon as Microsoft approves it.

Which one are you trying first? And what should I build next? I read every comment.

We built an AI for Windows where you can see what it remembers about you and strike it out

Disclosure: I work with AIBlab, who make AIBEVA.

AIBEVA (Level S2) is an intelligent being for Windows, powered by AIB.core. Four things we focused on:

- What it remembers about you is stored on your PC, not on our servers.

- A panel shows what it remembers. Strike out a line, or say "forget where I live", and it stops using it.

- Switch the model or your API key, and the memory stays.

- No ads and no ad tracking.

Honest limits: with your own API key (Claude, Gemini or OpenAI), your messages go to that provider under its terms. Only the built-in model can chat without internet.

Free in the Microsoft Store with a 14-day trial; after that it needs an AIBSN registration (aibsn.org). You can see where it connects here: aibeva.com/check

Question for you: what would you want to see in that memory panel?

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I built Typist: pay $0.99 for one transcript instead of a monthly subscription, and pick the model (Scribe v2, Grok 2.0 or Whisper)

Software name: Typist

Basic description: a web app that transcribes audio and video. Instead of one in-house model, you choose per file between ElevenLabs Scribe v2, xAI Grok 2.0 and Whisper. Exports TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT and VTT.

Links: https://iamtypist.dev

I built Typist, so read this as the developer's pitch.

Why it's different:

You don't need a subscription for one interview a month. Otter Pro is $16.99/month and allows 10 file imports a month; Descript's paid plans start at $16 to $24/month. On Typist you can pay $0.99 for a single file up to 90 minutes ($2.99 on Scribe v2), or take a plan from $6.99/month.

You get models from the top of public benchmarks instead of one house model. On Artificial Analysis's speech-to-text leaderboard, Scribe v2 has a 2.2% word error rate and Grok 2.0 2.3%. Whisper large-v3 costs less and does fine on clean audio.

60 free minutes when you sign up, no card. Files up to 500 MB on the free plan and 5 GB on paid plans.

The useful part, whatever tool you end up with: pick the model by recording, not by brand. One clear speaker (lectures, voice memos): Whisper is cheap and good enough. Several people or a noisy room: use a model that labels speakers, since Whisper doesn't. And if you transcribe dozens of hours every month, an unlimited plan such as TurboScribe's ($20/month) will cost you less than paying per file. Paying per file wins when you have a handful of recordings a month.

What would make you switch from the tool you use now?

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I built a lightweight, 100% private alternative to tech stack inspectors (TechReveal)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday.

Wanted to share a little side project I've been working on called TechReveal.

I've always liked seeing what frameworks, CMS, and libraries websites are running under the hood. But the popular extensions out there have gotten really bloated, started hiding basic info behind paywalls, and track your browsing data.

So I built a clean, lightweight alternative that runs 100% locally in your browser with zero telemetry. It shows you the tech list, an interactive visual map of how everything connects, and exact library versions.

It's completely free on the Chrome Web Store if anyone wants to test it out:
👉 TechReveal

Would love to hear your thoughts or any feedback to make it better!

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I updated my free, open-source comic and manga reader for PC and Android; now with experimental translation!

Hey everyone!

I'm back with another update on Komicove, a free and open-source comic and manga reader I've been developing for Windows, Linux, and Android.

Some of you might remember my previous posts about the project. I originally started building it while learning Python, combining two things I enjoy: programming and comics. Since then, I've kept improving it, partly thanks to the feedback I've received from the community.

I just released version 0.2.2, and this is a much bigger update than the previous one!

The biggest new feature is experimental comic and manga translation!

I've added a system that attempts to recognize text on comic pages and translate it while keeping the translated text overlaid on the original artwork.

You can choose the source and target languages, translate a single page or an entire comic, and use local AI options or a user-configured API. You can also manually correct the recognized text and translations.

Important: Translation is still in an early experimental alpha stage. It's not fully complete yet, and you may encounter issues with text recognition, translation accuracy, or text positioning, especially on more complex pages. There's still a lot of work to do!

Other improvements in v0.2.2:

  • Better performance when loading large comic libraries, including improved cover caching and loading.
  • Improvements to guided reading, which automatically detects panels and lets you navigate through them individually.
  • Fixes and improvements to Webtoon mode, vertical scrolling, and zoom.
  • Improvements to the update system.
  • A redesigned official website with documentation, tutorials, and version history.
  • Various bug fixes and stability improvements.

For anyone unfamiliar with Komicove, it also includes a library with covers, collections, favorites, and reading progress, along with double-page reading, manga mode, and progress syncing between PC and Android.

Local reading works completely offline, without an account or ads. Just add the comic files you already own.

Links:

Website: https://komicove.online/

GitHub: https://github.com/lucrazy-fn/Komicove

Download v0.2.2: https://github.com/lucrazy-fn/Komicove/releases/tag/v0.2.2

A quick note for anyone who followed my previous posts: My old Reddit account, u/Middle-Income1105, was restricted due to an age verification issue. I've already contacted Reddit Support, and they're aware of the situation. That's why I'm posting from this account now.

Anyway, I really want to thank everyone who has commented, tested the app, or shared suggestions on my previous posts. Some of that feedback directly influenced the improvements in this release!

If anyone wants to give it a try, I'd especially appreciate feedback on the new experimental translation feature. I'm curious to see how it performs with different comics and manga.

What do you think of the project? And what features would you like to see in future updates?

Thanks, everyone! ❤️

Looking for software Free alternatives to Whimsical, a flowchart app

I know there is a free version of Whimsical, but it only allows for 50 board objects per month. Which for what I'm doing, really doesn't work. It's probably a long shot but if I can find something as close to it as possible while also being free, that'd be really sweet.

Software support MPC-HC Issue

Hi.

I upgraded from the 2017 version to https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc today. Now i got the problem again that the window is drag-able everywhere, not just on the title bar! Cant remember how i fixed it 10y ago. AI told me stuff thats not there...

Edit: I think it had to do with the fact that it paused on left click, not on release of left click.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I made a free PDF tool where you click anywhere and start typing, no fumbling through menus everytime

Post image
0 Upvotes

Filling out flat PDFs (ones without fillable fields) always annoyed me. In most editors, you pick the text tool, draw a box, type, switch tools, and repeat.

So I built TypePDF. You open a PDF, click wherever you want text, and type.

  • Includes shapes and signatures
  • Drag, rotate, snap, and align items
  • Export as an editable or flattened PDF
  • Runs in your browser with no account or install. Your file never leaves your device
  • There's a sample form if you want to try it without your own PDF

https://typepdf.pages.dev/

It's free, and I'd really appreciate feedback on what's missing or annoying. Thank you!

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I made a tool that makes your voice sound like you’re in the game.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Half a year ago I was watching a streamer and thought: wouldn’t it be cool and immersive if their voice sounded like they were in the game? With reverb matching a cathedral, cave, dungeon or wherever they are in the game.

So over the last months I figured out a way to make it work and I’m looking for testers to get some feedback on the beta version.

It runs 100% locally with very low CPU/GPU usage. VRAM usage depends on the selected model. It’s built for gaming content creators and streamers. Once connected to OBS, it checks the scene and gradually adjusts the reverb to match. You can use it for free, with an optional Pro upgrade.

Gameplay AutoReverb, check it out here: gameplayautoreverb.com

Feedback would be much appreciated: [feedback@gameplayautoreverb.com](mailto:feedback@gameplayautoreverb.com)

If you have any questions about the software feel free to ask in the comments! :)

Self-Promotion Wednesdays Made a little floating RAM widget for Windows because I didn't want a whole PC suite just for that

Post image
0 Upvotes

Some of those all-in-one PC cleaner suites have this little floating memory ball and I honestly liked it. What I didn't like was installing the whole suite (plus the popups) just to get it. So I ended up writing my own.

It's called MemBall. It sits on the edge of your screen and shows RAM usage and up/down speed. The ring goes blue, then orange, then red as memory fills up.

Stuff it does:

- click it to trim memory and it tells you how much got freed (there's an optional timer too, if you'd rather it did that on its own)

- drag it to the side of the screen and it snaps there, then shrinks into a thin bar when your mouse leaves. The bar still shows usage

- hides itself when a game or video is fullscreen

- right click shows the top 5 programs eating your RAM, and you can kill them from there

- English, Chinese and French

It's tiny (~120 KB), works on Win 10/11 and there's nothing else to install. If you're interested, you can grab it here: https://github.com/yydsyin/memball/releases/latest

Got suggestions or found a bug? Just DM me.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays [Web] NovelDesk: a quiet browser desk for writing your novel — 20% off the first year this month

Post image
4 Upvotes

NovelDesk is a writing app for novels that runs in the browser, so it works the same on Windows, Mac, Linux and phones. The desk is free to use with no account; this month's deal is on the paid tier.

  • Chapters in a sidebar. A new chapter opens with the last lines of the previous one faint above the heading.
  • Notes on characters and places. Type @ to tag one in the text; click it later and the note opens beside the page, with every chapter it appears in.
  • A daily goal in words or characters, a 25/5 timer, and line focus.
  • Opens .docx, .txt and .md files and splits them at the headings, read in the browser and never uploaded.
  • Version history for each chapter, backup files, a few paper themes.

Nothing in it writes or edits your text. No ads.

Free writing stays in your browser only, and Safari clears a site's data after 7 days without a visit, so the site promises 7 days and keeps pointing you to backup files.

Free covers two manuscripts of up to 30 chapters each. Plus is $8/month or $60/year: cloud saving across devices, no limits, every version kept, Word/EPUB/PDF export, publishing chapters as reading pages, and 20 credits a month for optional AI-drawn pictures.

The deal: comment "page turner" and I'll DM you a code for 20% off the first year of the yearly plan, so $48 instead of $60 (it renews at $60). For the first 100 people, until November 14.

I'm the developer, so ask me anything about where your work is stored.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays Neverclick 0.4.2: Use local computer vision to select text without a mouse

Text selection and dragging are now available in Neverclick v0.4.2. Select two hints to perform a text selection or drag.

Neverclick uses local computer vision to detect UI elements on your screen so that you can perform mouse actions without a mouse. I made this when I was suffering from hand pain. The computer vision system runs 100% offline and it's optimized quite well so you don't need a powerful gpu to run it.

Not vibe coded btw.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays Looking for a way to translate text on your Windows screen without copying and pasting? Meet Surprint

One thing that gets annoying when using foreign-language software or playing games in another language is having to switch back and forth between the application and a translator.

Surprint is a Windows screen translator that tries to make this easier by displaying translations directly over the text on your screen.

Instead of manually copying text into a translation website, you can use a keyboard shortcut to translate the monitor under your cursor, the active window, or a region you select.

The main features:

  • Offline screen translation: Download the required language models once, then translate without an internet connection.
  • Game and app translation: Uses application-provided text when available, with OCR for content such as images and games.
  • Translation overlay: Display translations over the original text or in a movable, resizable subtitle bar.
  • Live translation mode: Monitor a window and attempt to restore translations when its contents stop moving.
  • Glossary: Preserve names, brands, and game terminology.
  • Per-app settings: Configure different languages and display preferences for different applications.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: Trigger translations without leaving the application.

Privacy was also an important consideration. In the current offline workflow, screen pixels and recognized text aren't sent to a cloud translation service.

A few limitations to be aware of:

Surprint is still a work in progress, so I don't want to oversell it. OCR can miss small, faint, or stylized text, and scrolling or fast-moving game content can cause delays. The offline translation model can also lose nuance, especially with longer sentences.

Some protected screens aren't supported, and exclusive-fullscreen games need to run in borderless windowed mode.

Cloud translation services for potentially better results are planned for a future update, but they're not available yet.

Surprint supports 64-bit Windows 10 version 2004 or later.

If you regularly translate websites, use software in another language, or play games without your preferred language available, you can check it out here:

I'd especially appreciate feedback about OCR accuracy, language support, and compatibility with different games and applications. I'm continuing to improve it.
