I want to start a shrimp tank but I have no idea where to begin
I have no experience with keeping shrimp or any fish for that matter but I am looking for a new hobby and shrimp keeping has intrigued me. Is there a step by step how to because I have no clue on where to begin. I've looked at the side bar but still I have no idea.

Mod Poll: Should We Ban Ai Use Altogether On This Sub.
It seems a lot of people, possibly the majority, want to see an absolute ban of Ai on this sub, whether in post or comment. So, we wanted to let the community decide. Thanks for your input! - Shrimptank Mod Team

Aquarium/Tank Photos Happy with the final results of my tank!
I recently upgraded from a 3 gallon to a 5 gallon tank for my shrimp and I'm pretty happy with the final look as all the plants fully establish and grow in. Planted with pearlweed, repens, anubias, water onion, a dwarf lily, aponogeton, java moss, and dwarf hair grass with red root floaters, frogbit, and an emersed pothos on top. And seeing as how 3 of my females are now berried, I'd say the shrimp are pretty happy with their new home as well!

Beginner is this normal behavior for the next day after getting shrimp?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
i’m a beginner in the hobby and my jar finished cycling so i drip acclimated my shrimp and added them in yesterday. it’s been less than 24 hours since they have been in here but i just wanted to know if this is normal behavior and make sure they aren’t stressed or uncomfortable! they’re kinda just racing around like this.
UPDATE: a couple have died including the pregnant one :( but i read that it’s very likely to have a couple deaths in the first day even if you’re doing everything right so hopefully no more die

Beginner Cool Eyespot Video
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello shrimp aficionados!
Took this video the other day and thought it was really neat how you could see the babies being whisked around in there given they’ve developed their eyes spots and that’s much more visually trackable than just yellow egg dots.
They hatched about 12 hours later.

Shrimp Photos Feels like an X-Ray. Zoom in.
I did nothing but sharpen the original RAW file from my phone (other than add my watermark). No color tweaks. No highlights/shadows adjustments. I figured out a new way to orient the exterior lights against my tank so that it throws both shadows and highlights on the surface of every internal structure from multiple directions. You may need your phone screen at full brightness. Zoom in slowly. Do you see all of that intricate detail on internal structure like I do? I think the easiest spot to start with is just a little ways behind the eye.

Beginner Besides water quality issues, is feeding rice/fruit unhealthy for shrimps?
first pic is old, i no longer have blue-green algae in my tank.
my family consumes a lot of white rice, so i drop a few plain cooked grains in the tank every couple days, sometimes more, sometimes less.
I like trying the shrimp with new foods, so besides rice, i've tried inside of strawberry, bits of dried date, blueberry, peeled mango (one of their favorites I find), boiled carrot, blanched spinach, peeled apple, and peeled cucumber.
a lot of these foods are pretty high in sugar.
i feed pretty small amounts and the food is gone in a couple hours or so usually.
so besides water quality issues, which i haven't really had recently, would any of these foods be unhealthy for shrimp? too high in sugar or fat or starch or something?
do i need to offer more nutritious foods? the tank is 20 gallons and well-established so there's lots of biofilm, but i like feeding anyway.

Help: Beginner Dead/disappearing shrimp in planted tank
I have a 5.5 gallon planted tank stocked with neocaridinia and a small army of ramshorn snails. In the past few weeks I have been seeing significantly fewer shrimp out and about in the tank and today I came home to a dead shrimp. I'm concerned this is a sign of an underlying issue or imbalance somewhere in the tank. Thanks in advance for the help!
Hopefully useful context:
-I set up the tank with plants (potting soil under black diamond blasting sand for substrate) in mid-late June and added 16 shrimp in late August.
-After adding shrimp initially I would commonly see 10-12 shrimp out and about in the tank, these days I usually see 4-6.
-I began fertilizing using PPS Pro dosing in early September (roughly 3 weeks after adding shrimp) after noticing signs of nutrient deficiency in the plants at the bottom of the tank. There are several houseplants growing out the top of the tank, and my assumption was that they were out competing the aquatic plants for nutrients due to access to atmospheric CO2 leading the the nutrient deficiencies I was seeing.
-As recommended by the PPS Pro method I have been using a digital TDS meter to determine when to water change. This has resulted in roughly weekly water changes of 30-50% of the water volume. I match the temperature of the water I am adding to the tank water when doing water changes and the pH of my tank water is consistent with my tap water. The only additives I use are water conditioner. I was planning on doing a water change this evening, but have stopped due to the dead shrimp. The shrimp I see out in the tank while changing water do not appear stressed by the experience.
-My parameters have generally held very steady over the life of the tank with the exception of nitrate and phosphate which have both risen slightly since beginning the fertilizer routine. Nitrite 0ppm, Nitrate 0-5ppm (5ppm today), Ammonia .25ppm, Phosphate 0-1ppm (.5ppm today), pH 7.5, GH 7, KH 6
-Some of the shrimp have grown visibly and significantly since being added to the tank.
-I usually feed about half of a Shrimp Envy Complete pellet every 2-3 days. I occasionally replace this with a tiny pinch of bacter ae. I also regularly crush small snails against the glass and the shrimp often eat the results. I was traveling this past weekend (Thurs-Sat) and left some Shrimp Envy Snow in the tank as a grazing food. I fed as normal on Sunday and have not fed since.

Purchase Review Bloody Mary or Red Cherry?
So I was sold ‘Bloody Mary’ shrimps by two different sellers. I’m pretty new to shrimp-keeping but I’m sure something’s off about one of them — the one with the yellow saddle looks more like a cherry red, while the other one looks more bloody-mary like 🧐
Could anyone confirm? Was I scammed?
