The unfortunate truth is that we have to be the rooftop Koreans, brother. We can't keep hoping that someone else will come defend us. That's what got the U.S. citizens where they are.

As a Korean, I find it deeply ironic and disrespectful when 'Rooftop Koreans' are praised as poster boys for self-defense and the Second Amendment. They only had to take up arms because the police completely abandoned Koreatown during the LA Riots. Law enforcement set up perimeters to protect rich areas like Beverly Hills and LA City Hall, leaving Koreatown to rot

You seriously underestimate the ability of Koreans to absolutely pull the fuck up when they need to. When Johnny Somali was wreaking havoc in their country (which doesn't allow guns btw), the Koreans on social media were using his live streams to track his location and everywhere he turned up, the Koreans were there with pipes and crowbars and literally any blunt object they can use for melee. Koreans don't fuck around man.

Nobody needs kicked in the back about it and this is probably theft for resale because maybe just maybe there that one card worth a million in there. The rich have been trashing every society for years dont be surpised at society becoming trashy. I'd like to add the misinfo surrounding it is mental, some subs its because greta, the muslims, palestine, yandex misinfo (what yandex) it keeps spinning and people are spinning with it. It's only clear that the powers that be don't want protests globally so i hope they effect change they need.

But why

71

u/Bonvent 1d ago edited 1d ago

French guy here, will try to give a serious and hopefully unbiasedish answer :

Ghetoes (a lot of those guys live in what we call "Cités" located away from city center and built during France latest immigration waves and feel left out, unemployment is huge, they don't feel French and don't respect institutions and people, Also underfunded school make it so that those guys don't have a lot of opportunities.

Some manage to create businesses or find employment but the others don't have prospects and are bored, some find employment in the local drug business. It's hard for them to find a job also because racism is real and a guy with a arabic sounding name has a lot less chance of being recruited.

I'm not condoning the violence/burnings here just tried to give context for people outside of France. There was tons of peacful protests against the cost of living and our pro billionaire government and the hooligans just decided to go shopping while the police was busy depressing...

55

u/jetilovag 1d ago

What boggles my mind is that someone flees their country (for whatever reason), another takes them in, apparently does not provide the prospects they hoped it would, and somehow they hop on a train of looting and burning because the country doesn't live up to the expectation in their head.

Sure, I would feel disappointed/angry too, but I'm pretty sure that is not grounds on pillaging the city that took me in.

22

u/BedSpreadMD 1d ago

Well you'll notice most of those doing this are children or very young adults. No offense to those who are younger, but statistically speaking it's the age group that acts the most entitled and irrational.

They see reports of people in western countries being treated to a life of luxury, and think it's normal, when it's not.

4

u/blazenite104 1d ago edited 1d ago

Feels like it's the people watching youtubers and tik tokers thinking they're the standard of living when the ones they're watching couldn't be further from the truth.

3

u/BedSpreadMD 1d ago

Yeah you have people telling everyone they're getting thousands in government benefits, then get here only to realize that person was simply scamming.

u/Bonvent 1d ago

Like other said it's the children of the children of the first immigrants that do that. The first generation immigrants are usually thankful and proud french citizens. It's crazy but in those gethos/cités some families have now been unemployed for sometimes several generations.

26

u/DisastrousConcept210 1d ago

Excuse my ignorance... Please educate me on what the fuck is happening and why?

23

u/Silly-Cheesecake-283 1d ago

It's apparently a "student protest" because the public schools have mice, broken furniture, no ac, no heating, 12 hour school days, not enough teachers, etc. There are resulting riots, and boyo are they rioting. However, no one has died so it's just bad because of the destruction of property.

Now for some extra fucking context there is some bot shit surrounding the current paris riots on reddit. They have a presidential election coming up, so you know, it's very devisive. I keep seeing alt right shit. One of the first posts I saw about the protests on reddit was literally pictures of hitler saying that these protests were started by brown people, and hitler took care of france, which is an insane thing to say. I think the alt right is posting it i'd guess. It would be hard for me to care less about the political system in france, but I think it's a precursor of what to come in the us election.

9

u/GalaadJoachim 1d ago

no one has died

For the sake of truth, 1 person died, in Paris, from a cardiac arrest and a second might have but it's still being reviewed.

The protests are fair and what they ask for is very legitimate. That said, the amount of destruction produced by the people that used the moment for pillage, which I do believe should be not be tied to protestors, is baffling.

The amount of small shop owners that literally lost everything is just sad and there's no excuse for it.

5

u/Comfortable-Algae-20 1d ago

Pretty sure a 22yo police officer was killed by these animals and a bunch more were hospitalized, not to mention bystanders or shop owners who were beaten like the guy on this video. Not to mention the countless shops that had nothing to do with it were destroyed and looted by the same "brown people" people have been defending online.

Let me be clear tho, I know it is not just the black/brown people doing shit like this, looters and criminals come from every color/culture/country.

French person here !

It started as a student protest because the budget for school is a complete downfall over the last decade and because there are huuuuge inequalities between schools that are in the "nice" part of town and the subburbs.

There's been a huge repression of the movment, a 15 years old kid lost his hand due to a grenade, there's been police cars launching full speed at teenargers, it was *a lot*

Now the movment grew even bigger and is more broadly about how much people lost in life-quality, due to price rising, the gas being unaffordable, the medical system being torn down piece by piece, and the fact that this governement (we had the same president for the last decade) just... ignores the will of the people ? And uses some loopholes in our constitution to pass laws without the Assembly's approval.

Saturday, there were 800 000 people in the streets nation-wide.

Obviously, even if most people were peaceful protesters, there are always looters and black blocks. A striking image was in Limoges where the townhall got burned down

Little scrotes always do the same thing. Approach like the big man, run away, then attack when your back is turned and act like they can fight.

They are being invaded and the government isn't helping at all.
