Trip Planning Driving from Michigan to Cape Cod in May.

I've always wanted to explore the New England area, it's so gorgeous there. I'm going to Cape Cod for a wedding and want to take a couple stops in any of the states in driving through or drive up to Acadia NP. I have about 8 days total. Idk where to even start, the opportunities are endless! I love hiking, little towns to walk around, not a fan of big cities. Anything cool or unique to see. Help give me some suggestions!

Looking for the places worth timing a stop around: clean restrooms, good food, anything that made a long drive better. Where was it and what made it stand out?

Started near Binghamton, New York. It was a 5 and a half hour drive to Grand Isle Campground in Northern Vermont. We drove through the Adirondacks and made it to the campground a bit after dark. These are the pictures I took while we were driving through Vermont on our way back home the next day. We were able to drive on Route 100, which was pretty cool!!! 10/9/26-10/10/26

Trip Planning Cross Country Road Trip 70th Birthday

I am planning a cross country road trip the last two weeks of September next year. I live at the beach in Jersey and want to dip my toes in the Atlantic at the start and dip my toes in the Pacific at the end. I plan on making time the first 3 days (8-12) driving days or so and then slowing down (5-6 hours) for the rest of trip. I want to focus on beauty and history. I am renting a car in Jersey, dropping it if at the San Francisco airport before the flight home. Route 80 straight through or Route 90 and then south through Golden, Moab and then into Nevada, Thoughts?

pullman, WA to Atlanta, GA, 6 days in late Dec 2026 — planning help

6 days · late Dec 2026 · 2 adults · F-150

Locked in already — flexable

Needs answers:

What would be the best and safest route? I would like to go through MT and SD via I-90, since it is a faster route, but would it better to take an extra day or two to drive south the hit I-40? I am quite familiar with winter driving and have been on many long road trips, but not through this area at this time of year. Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

We want to rent a car from Paris to Athens and do this one way trip but car rentals like Sixt etc. don’t allow for this type of booking. Do you maybe know other ways to rent a car from Paris and leave it in Athens? Thank you!

Trip Planning Heading South in Pacific Coast Highway.

Southern Oregon, approaching Gold Beach along the Pacific Coast Highway (US 101) around 7 AM this morning.
What a beautiful time of year to explore this part of the country!
I travel this stretch of the Oregon coast at least twice a year, usually during the summer months when traffic can get pretty heavy. This is my first time driving through in October, and I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised by how quiet everything is. Hardly any traffic, even during the middle of the day.
Gas isn’t exactly cheap. I paid $4.78 a gallon for regular, but everything else has been great.
I don’t know if this weather is typical for southern Oregon in October, but I’ve had four straight days of sunshine, with daytime temperatures around 70°F and nighttime lows in the mid-40s. Pretty hard to complain about that!
I sleep in my Jeep, and another pleasant surprise has been how easy it is to find a place to camp. Most of the campgrounds I’ve come across have had plenty of available spots, something you definitely can’t count on during the summer.
If you’ve been thinking about exploring the Oregon coast but don’t enjoy the summer crowds, October might be worth considering. Just keep in mind that I’ve probably been lucky with the weather.
October 19, 2026. Gold Beach, Oregon.

Trip Planning 6 weeks in USA

Myself and her are planning to visit the US for 6 weeks next year in Mid march to early May. We’re doing a lot of stuff on the west, California Utah and Arizona. We’re planning then on flying to Memphis, going to Nashville, and then to Covington in Georgia. After that, we’re a bit stumped on what to do. We hope to have around 1-2 weeks left at this point. Looking for any suggestions on where to head from here!

Destination Highlight Feel the drive, live the ride! I built open-source web application for American Scenic Byways.

Out of a simple desire to wander and drive the country's most beautiful and historic roads, I built the open-source web application, Rambleroo.

It catalogs 1,047 classic drives across the United States, including National Scenic Byways, All-American Roads, and state routes.

Rambleroo scenic byways' map

What’s inside:

  • Mile-by-mile scroll-along strip maps with authentic landmarks and mileposts
  • 3D mode and vintage seasonal views
  • Roadside histories, notable waypoints, and classic postcards for every route
  • Multi-road itinerary sequencing and a traveler's passport to stamp as you roll through

If you enjoy the project, drop a star on the GitHub repository and contributions and route suggestions are always welcome!

Trip Planning Is Buc-ee's worth planning a route around, or is it overhyped?

I keep seeing people plan whole drives around a Buc-ee's stop. For those who've been: is it really that good, and what do you actually buy there?

Trip Report Pittsburgh to Provincetown

This was an October poker trip I did two years ago, but I also had plenty of time during the day for driving around and hiking a bit. The route mostly follows the casinos I went to: Rivers (Pitt), Parx (Philly), Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods (SE Connecticut) and Bally’s (Lincoln RI). I actually started in Chicago but basically didn’t stop until Pittsburgh.

The fall weather was great, although not as many colors as I expected on the coast, I’d say central Pennsylvania probably had the best of it. As a midwesterner, the old money places like Newport were pretty wild to me. The full day driving from Rhode Island and all through Cape Cod was gorgeous, the coastal beaches with the crisp fall weather just has a certain feel I can’t really put my finger on, the brine in the air? I liked it, made me want to eat freshly shucked oysters and a hot chowder!

Places pictured: Raccoon Creek State Park PA, Pittsburgh, French Creek State Park, Philadelphia, Seaside Sanatorium CT, Norwich, Mystic, Narrangsett RI, Jamestown, Newport, Eastern Cape MA, Provincetown MA

Trip Planning Cool offroading spots within an hour or so of San Jose, California ?

Onx offroad seems to not be it for looking for spots and looking on Instagram and Google hasn’t helped as much either. Maybe I’m hust nee to Onx offroad anyway my 4runner is stock and no recovery gear yet. I took it on sand and offroad in the mountains would like more spots and ideas. I may be open to mud or low water if it won’t get stuck. Also if theres cool offroading spots with something cool idk like a swing, hot spring, lake to swim etc please let me know.

Gear & Essentials Do darker sunglasses actually protect your eyes better?

Something I've been wondering about is why people automatically assume darker lenses mean better sun protection. Apparently UV protection and lens darkness aren't the same thing, which makes choosing sunglasses a little more confusing.

While checking the best UV protection sunglasses, I came across Quay's In The City frames. Quay says its lenses provide 100% UVA and UVB protection, including lighter-colored options. That sounds useful, but I'm wondering whether lens coverage matters just as much as the UV rating, especially with smaller frames.

Would you choose a wider pair for more coverage or just focus on the UV protection rating?
