[Recommendation] Need controller storage ideas
This is my current stache of games & controllers. I want to remove that ugly box in the bottom left corner and replace it with some sort of controller storage, which will free up my space for more games on the shelf. I dont want to mount abunch of single controller holders to the wall.
any suggestions or recommendations?

My roommate found a pattern for a modular hanging board for his and 3D printed it. There are sure to be tons of options available for something like that. Worth looking into.

Yep, no question. 3d printing is the way to go, and by far the cheapest. To the OP: try going to printables dot com or thingiverse dot com. Be prepared though, you'll get hit with tons of options. I know not everyone has a 3d printer, so I could probably help you out if you find something you like.

If you want a fun little project, you can buy one of these plastic dressers. I got mine for $30 at Wal-Mart. They don't take up too much space. Then buy yourself some foam and cut out spots for everything. I'm still collecting all the controllers I want, but this is the setup I've got so far -- Picture 1 & Picture 2. All wireless also, just using them for emulation. Cable management would need a bit of considering if you go this route though.

I divide my controllers into 3 subgroups. Group 1 is immediate usage within a week; this can go on top of the cabinet. Group 2 is infrequent usage. You can put them in the top drawer of a chique drawer cabinet like u/RadiantCoinshot said. Group 3 is legacy long term. These can be in the bottom drawer of the mentioned cabinet, or some box in the attic (hit me with your downvotes I don't care).

Transparent plastic boxes/containers, and off they go to under the bed, garage, attic, or wherever you have your storage area. That is the only way once you reach 50+ controllers. Displays are nice, but at some point you will keep at hand only controllers you will be actually using. What other comment said about having controller tiers/subgroups is the way to go, and something you will naturally levitate to over time.
The struggle for surface begins when you go beyond one arcade stick. Then 8-16bit joysticks are a bit of annoyance due to dimensions, and are best kept in individual boxes in the open top shelf spaces, which is not always possible. And then comes the sim rig, but if you are going for retro gaming only then at least you won't have that problem.

I use a PegZone thing for mine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CX96JW6T/ref=twister_B0CX99SYJZ

I ended up getting one of them as a gift and then buying a second one just for more of the holder things because it was cheaper than buying them separately.
For the few ones I still use with cord they go in a drawer in my Ikea Brimnes Bookcases (which you should look into those and the Billy shelves and maybe a Besta entertainment center for more room for stuff, a small Besta and a Billy would really upgrade your setup from what I can see).

You can find all kinds of holders on Etsy. Wall mounted and this one that can go on your shelf. Also some basic ones that look like remote boats.
