Show-and-Tell I built a web UI to automatically clone and backup Raspberry Pi SD cards via SSH — runs on Docker, fully bootable backup cards
Hey r/raspberry_pi! I built a small self-hosted tool to automate SD card backups for my Pis.
rpi-image-cloner connects to your Pi via SSH, runs rpi-clone to copy the running SD card to a backup card, and automatically repairs cmdline.txt and fstab (PARTUUID fix) — so the backup card boots directly without any manual steps.
Features:
Web UI with live progress + log
Weekly schedules (set it and forget it)
SSH keepalive for 2+ hour backups
Encrypted credential storage
Multiple Pis from one interface
Docker / Portainer one-liner setup
GitHub: https://github.com/pierrecinema/rpi-image-cloner
Feedback welcome — especially if you’re running large setups with multiple Pis!

A web UI is handy but I’m surprised you used the defunct rpi-clone and not the active version?

The defunct one is the one the AI knows about.

It’s such a shame when ai chooses to use a repo that hasn’t been updated for years when the actual Jeff Geerling hosts the active one. You’d have thought big brain AI would have noticed their selected repo had been abandoned in 2020.

I find that if I want to use a repo, I have to either have a local clone of it, or tell the AI the repo url to use, and maybe point it at the docs in the repo/url so it knows how to use the latest stuff properly.
