Family moved to India post partition and no one in my generation speaks the maternal dialect. For someone who feels a loss of native cultural identity, what do you do to keep your grandparents' culture alive?

Hi, I’m a 21 white woman and have recently become obsessed with watching bhangra videos. I think that the energy, style, rhythm, and collaboration in the dances is SO amazing and it looks like so much fun and such an athletic style of dance. Specifically I am in awe of the involvement of the whole body, it looks so freeing to move with your whole body in that way. The music is beautiful and fun, although I don’t understand the words. I find the history of bhangra to be so interesting and I love that it continues to be a way to celebrate culture.
Long story short, I want to take a Bhangra dance class but I’m not sure if as a white person that is crossing the line into appropriation. I am not Punjabi, and have no cultural or ethnic ties to India or Pakistan. I don’t want to overstep into a space that isn’t mine, and most certainly don’t want to make anybody uncomfortable, so I figured I would ask on here. What do you think? Can I, a white woman, learn bhangra?

My father is a retired government teacher , he hasnt told us anything about how his insurance is covered . But i have heard government employees have insurance for themselves and spouse .
how can i check if he has anything or not , he says he doesnt know or wont tell . He just fears the paperwork he needs to do in order to get the insurance money etc .
It is very frustrating to know, he has insurance paid with his hard earned money but wont take it .

Anyone done the GNDU online certificate in Punjabi? The language learning looks very basic but there is also a literature element which would necessitate a higher level of Punjabi. Also, any idea of cost?

I was listening to a podcast in Spanish the other day about how certain words in Mexican Spanish for one generation have fallen out of use in others.
Examples of this:
- saying "chido" for "cool" was not seen as positive thing for the speaker's parents
- "qué padre" for "cool" wasn't as hip for the younger generation.
I can reflect on this in English too: words like "neat" or "da bomb" were all the rage in the 90s but I'd be hard pressed to find people who use these words today in the United States.
I'm curious about what people's thoughts are for Punjabi. What are some words that people used to use that you don't hear as much? Thinking about "slangish" words, not necessarily the words people would term as theth.

Probably not the best place to be posting something like this, but the community rules dont say not to🤷🏽♂️ I am a 25yr old Divorcee with a handsome ahh son. I am a half Puerto Rican American that is very interested in Indian women, but to my knowledge, have none around me. Any tips on how to mingle in the community and try to find a lovely woman to date? Small rundown of me is 25M, 1 child 2M, my main hobby is everything Magic the Gathering, and I have a stable job that pays well. Any and all help will be appreciated! If ya'll decide to flame me in the comments, its fine, but go easy here, I'm just tryna find someone to make me happy

My sister 33 years (Filipino-Canadian) met and fell in love with a 34 year oldPunjabi guy. Anyways our family loves him, he is so kind and gentle to my sister I can tell he loves and cares about her and protects her. I don't think anyone is better for her than him. My sister is very picky, I just don't want her to give him a hard time. She is a Nurse, and he is working at a warehouse, but is going to school for Accounting. His parents will come to Canada, but he lives with his aunt/uncle and cousins whom have been here a long long time.
Anyways, me and my 2 other sisters, parents, and relatives are excited. We are Catholic so we do weddings at a Church then a banquet hall. Kinda cool to see that they gonna bring us to the temple. Also are the men and women segregated at the venues?
Real talk, can I impress some Indian girls? I'm 4 years younger than my sis.
Also at the hall, do they usually tell stories about the bride/groom? My sister has me and our other sister to write speeches along with her maid of honor.
I plan on telling this story at the hall:
Sister is very picky though. I remember when we were setting up this wedding, she was always working, didn't show up and it was just me, my sisters, and relatives who showed up and the female relatives of the groomsman to help design the venue etc.. so we chose the colour of the balloons and decorations, the seating arrangement. Then all of a sudden, my sister showed up at the Hall, idk if she had been drinking or so, she was quite witty, not in the right frame of mind where she was straight. Once she got into the frame of mind, she wanted to make changes. I said Look, Michelle, we just have 1 weekend to put this hall together, well designed and organized, and out the door for the hosts on Monday. I started to get a bit ANNOYED with her since she was wanting to make changes. I said, if you're not happy with it, and want to make changes, maybe you should have been coming all this time. She got all pissed off and said You can F-off and take that Jade(our sister) with you. Thats what she said, idk what Jade had done. So that was it, we all left but his relatives stayed. But then after 4 hours, she phoned and said Well can you come in to help us? I thought well, I already put in a lot the designs together, I may as well help finish helping out, otherwise I may as well get F'd out of everything. Even when our relative was there food tasting, my sister would corner me and say "Hey forget about this Ashley girl, tasting the food. I or so-so should be the one doing that. We don't need her". For a second, I thought it was a bit sneaky.
