Merle poodles are no longer allowed on this sub

Moving forward, poodles with Merle coloring are not permitted on this sub. Merle coloring is a byproduct of mixing Australian Shepards into a poodle line. A poodle with Merle coloring by definition cannot be AKC papered without outright lying. Breeding for color is nothing new for poodles, but in this circumstance it comes with the possibility of introducing myriad health issues, and is an irresponsible practice at best. It is not good for the breed, it is dangerous to the dogs. We cannot in good conscience allow the promotion of this Poodles with this genetic trait, beautiful or not.

NOTICE: IT'S A T-SHIRT POST? IT'S A SCAM! (Same with coffee mugs, etc) T-SHIRT POSTS ARE NOT ALLOWED ANYMORE

Several times per day there are scammers who post here, showing a t-shirt or similar product, and then another scammer in the comments asks, "Where did you get it?" A link to a scam website is posted for everyone to follow, provide their personal info and credit card, then wonder how their identity got stolen.

Just like a Parti Poodle, it's very black-and-white. If you see a post sharing a t-shirt design, mouse pad, coffee mug, etc. IT IS A SCAM, and the quickest way to get your account banned is to reply, "Where can I get one", "I love it, do you have a link?" or something similar.

Here are the rules:

  1. Posts of t-shirts or other personalized items with dogs are prohibited. If you post one, you will get banned.
  2. Anyone who replies to the post and asks about acquiring the item will be banned.
  3. If you see a post like this, hit the report button, that's the easiest way to get our attention and we will remove the post and ban those involved.
  4. Do not contribute, do not call them out, just don't post at all. Hit the report button.

It seems every time something like this is posted, more than one of our users fall for it, then they are asking moderators, "What did I do to get banned?" You responded to a scammer, which makes you look like you're on their team. Just stop.

He is Mariano, small silver poodle, hes like 12/13 years old aprox. He is the sweetest boy, loves to cuddle, play with his toys, eat cucumbers and lay comfortably in our bed. Hes healthy but I know hes a senior and im so so scared of losing him. Hes being with me for 12 years now my mom almost run over him in the street. she brought him home, scared to death of people. Sometimes i wonder how was his life before, his name, if he had a family or what happened. Will never now. All I know is he is the most precious thing in my life

Miss Kaia. 7 months old. (I’m her groomer and her mother!)

Yes, pet safe dye.
No, I did not force her.
Yes, she loves being groomed.

I’ll answer any questions to the best of my abilities, but I just want to show off how much I’ve fallen in love with this look. Especially her topknot!

First Poodle - Show and Tell

Post image
76 Upvotes

I got my first poodle two weeks ago (River) and have been having a fantastic time with her! She's my little shadow, full of personality, and learns so quick. Some days are hard, as puppies take a lot of work, but I think she's giving us a relatively easy time compared to most.

I came from a lab family, but my fiance wasn't impressed with the lab breed. He wanted a cane corso (good lord no, not for beginners like us!), and somehow a poodle was a compromise. I do think that this "compromise" is probably better suited to our lives than either of our first picks, and we've both been converted to poodle superiority.

All that said, any advice for poodles? Alternatively, I'd love to hear about your poodle stories!

A 4-year-old Mini Poodle named Vivey is looking for a home (PA)

Not my poodle. I came across her story and thought r/poodles would appreciate her.

She is a 4-year-old, 15-pound Mini Poodle. She spent her early years as a mill mom.

She is timid around people, but she blossoms in the company of other dogs.

Vivey was highlighted as the "Rescue of the Week" in a PA newspaper: https://centralbucksnews.com/news/rescue-of-the-week-4-year-old-mini-poodle-vivey/

I found her adoption page: https://www.wellieswishdogrescue.com/adoptable-dogs

SPAYED (partially)!

Daria had her ovary sparing spay + gastropexy today and is currently sleeping in her crate. She gets a bland diet for a few days due to the gastropexy and currently has more meds than I do because they found she needed extra sedation to keep her from wanting to immediately bounce around everywhere so she got trazodone AND gabapentin as well as a couple painkillers.

If she thinks I betrayed her with the cone, wait until she realizes she has to go outside on a leash, without the other two dogs, and can't play bitey face or body slam the GSD for two whole weeks.

I do play to try and move her to a surgical suit in a couple of days but, if she tries to chew through that she'll be back in the cone.

Bonus: Because I like taxidermy and wet specimens, I asked to have her uterus back and they gave it back! It's in a little jar of alcohol on the shelf that has a few different animal hearts, skulls, and legal to own feathers now.

Food toys and dispensers

Juniper has recently decided that she no longer can eat out of a bowl. So we have a puzzle, a food ball, a snuffle mat and a little Kong hedgehog that can be stuffed. I am curious what your poodles (or other dogs) favorite food toys/dispensers are? And if you wouldn’t mind dropping a link or letting me know where to get it.
I think we need to keep switching it up… seems to be the only way she will eat her full amount of kibble daily.

My sweet girl was hospitalized for suspected Addison’s Disease.

Post image

My 6 year old baby, Willow, was hospitalized this morning for what the doctor thinks is Addison’s Disease.

A couple nights ago, she started acting strange; smacking her lips and frequently changing positions trying to sleep. The next morning, she threw up yellow/bile, refused to eat/drink, and walked slowly with her tail down. Today, the vet ran bloodwork + X-Rays to find no pancreatitis or intestinal blockage. To my surprise, her cortisol was below 1 and her kidney levels were elevated. The doctor told me she either was or was about to experience an Addison’s crisis.

She is now hospitalized and recieving IV fluids. They performed an ACTH stimulation to confirm Addison’s disease (we are still waiting on the results). Being beside myself, I’m unsure of how to navigate this process. If anyone has any advice or similar stories, I’d love to hear. Thank you listening :)

Hello poodle community! Would you say this is a 'merle' poodle?

Hi guys,

I'm talking to a breeder currently. The mum is a miniature poodle (not pictured), and has given birth to a litter through a stud. I was just wondering if you think the stud (pictured) might be merle as if that is the case I will not buy from this litter as I know about the sad health issues that come with merle poodles. Thank you so much!

I look forward to your responses :)

Focal seizures in poodles

Post image
54 Upvotes

Hello! My partner and I have a 3 year old standard poodle that we rescued a year and a half ago. He was malnourished when we got him, and now he’s a happy and healthy boy.

The past 2 nights have been really scary. Has anyone had any experience with focal seizures in your standard poodle? To make a long story short- 2 nights this week it’s like a switch- laying with us in bed, then all of a sudden he gets up and starts freaking out, panting, pacing, bumping into things, unable to jump on or off bed, hanging head low, can’t get comfortable and restless. This happens for about an hour then we have had to lift him back on the bed and he finally rests for the rest of the night.

The following days he’s been completely normal; eating, peeing, pooing, normal behavior & personality. After the second night, we took him to the vet today. They said they believe he was having focal seizures. They said they can’t give meds yet due to his age and not having a full blown seizure, but said we can schedule an appt with a neurologist (how much will that cost😵‍💫)

TO ANYONE THAT HAS EXPERIENCED THIS— what did you do, what did your vet do? I honestly don’t know what to do and it gives me anxiety. They also said if he has a full blown seizure to take him into an emergency clinic. Problem is, if this only happens at night, the nearest clinic is 1.5 hours away. Help!!!! Advice needed.
