And the people who didn’t vote either, we had an abysmal ~65% turnout rate of all voting aged Americans.

With 30% of all the non-voters being ages 18-29 despite only making 15% of the voter bloc.

Matt Christman tweet from Trump's first inauguration day.

•

u/ReasonablyRadical 47m ago

Don't know who that is, but is he a prophet?

•

u/DrCigarettes_MD 34m ago

I hope not, since he’s not exactly an optimist. You can be the judge though. Here’s a rant he went on after Charlottesville:

> And that's what these guys are, these guys that marched in Charlottesville, these are the people who are aware of the unspoken premise of this sort of zombie neoliberalism that we're living in, which is that we're coming to a point where there's gonna be ecological catastrophe, and that it's gonna require either massive redistribution of the ill-gotten gains of the first world, or genocide.

> And these are the first people who have basically said, "Well if that's the choice, then I choose genocide", and they're getting everyone else ready, intellectually and emotionally, for why that's gonna be okay when it happens, why they're not really people. When we're putting all this money into more fucking walls and drones and bombs and guns to keep them away, so that we can watch them die with clear consciences, it's because we've been loaded with the ideology that these guys are now starting to express publicly.

> On the other side of them, we have people who are saying in full fucking voice, "No, we have the resources to save everybody, to give everybody a decent and worthwhile existence, and that is what we want." And that is the fucking real difference between these two, and you can tell that to the next asshole who tells you that they're actually two sides of the same coin."

Then you look at how the rhetoric and actions of Republicans and European far-right parties have evolved since 2017, and you can see that they are indeed moving toward “machine gun them at the borders” as an immigration policy.

u/gascyl 1h ago edited 1h ago

If Trump actually nukes Iran, gas prices will shoot past $10 and never return. The fallout alone would spark a massive crisis that shuts down gulf refining permanently, as the Saudi, Bahraini and UAE governments are not prepared for a radiological disaster. It would be Chernobyl but much worse. And that's the best case scenario whereby Iran's military is actually disabled and the Strait of Hormuz opened. More likely, Iran will keep wailing or worse preform a nuclear counter-attack that actually destroys the oil wells permanently. Even if Trump succeeds in ending all 94 million Iranians' lives, the counterattack alone is sufficient to make gas completely unaffordable for most Americans.

It would be our suez moment and the US would literally never recover.

•

u/loungesinger 1h ago

The real fallout would be having the death of innocent civilians on our conscience. The real fallout would be setting a dangerous precedent for the post Cold War era. The real fallout would be the U.S. becoming an international pariah for generations.

It would also throw world order into chaos. The world power, who only up until 10 years ago could (with only moderate mental gymnastics) claim to be the key to world peace, becoming a rouge nuclear power would probably cause multiple bloody and drawn out wars. It could even cause doomsday. This is bone chilling stuff.

There is absolutely no justification for nuking any country this current year. The US main land is not under attack and our citizens are not under attack. We will not nuke anyone even with the wack job citing office

•

u/Locke66 1h ago edited 1h ago

The fallout alone would spark a massive crisis that shuts down gulf refining permanently, as the Saudi, Bahraini and UAE governments are not prepared for a radiological disaster. It would be chernobyl but much worse.

This is not how radioactive fallout from a conventional nuclear weapon works. Most of the fallout would be gone in 48 hours and the most dangerous effects that could persist longer would only be localised to the explosion. Chernobyl was exceptionally dangerous because it was a massive amount of nuclear material that was exposed at ground level - far more than is present in your average nuclear weapon.

It's unclear how effective an Iranian counter strike would be but it could certainly do a huge amount of damage to Gulf oil infrastructure which would be very very bad. They do not have a nuclear weapon by all known estimates including the CIAs thankfully.

It would be our suez moment and the US would literally never recover.

It would be far worse than a Suez moment.

•

u/AssignedCuteAtBirth 1h ago

I don't think Iran has to have nukes to launch a devastating counterstrike. An American nukedrop means all rules are out the window. There could be chemical or biological attacks, attacks by unconventional delivery on nonmilitary targets, attacks on nominally neutral US-aligned states, so on, so forth. If we break the kayfabe of the international rules of war, we hand what's left of Tehran a blank check in justified reaction.

•

u/foco_runner South Dakota 1h ago

•

u/gascyl 1h ago edited 38m ago

There is only 2 targets Trump and Israel really care about. The Arak Nuclear Complex, which Israel itself hit six months ago in the initial strike. The other target would be the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. A highly visible, fragile, strategic object. Taking out the plant would very visibly wound Iran, which is what Trump personally wants. Complete, total, utter devastation of these sites would immediately make Israel the tallest and most powerful nation in the region. Both could end up as a meltdown if the American bombs (nuclear or not) only damages the reactor without fully destroying it. And Iranian authorities could deliberately instigate a meltdown too.

For the counterattack, Iran doesn't even need a working bomb. Even just a dirty bomb is sufficient to cause a disaster so large, the target is devastated. Iran has proven they have the capability to hit the entire Arabian Peninsula and Syria, the only thing stopping them would be their own personal desire to not harm innocents. Which crazy religious people don't have.

But it'll cost a lot of money and kill a lot of people (perhaps even a handful of Americans). And further burn bridges with the international community.

And in two years it'll fall to someone else to fix it, and when all these problems can't be fixed in 2-4 years 30% of the country will insist that the only fix is doubling down.

•

u/citizen42069101 1h ago

That's just one bridge I can't see getting crossed

•

u/GGXImposter 1h ago

u/Vishnej America 1h ago

Hegseth is Mr War Crimes at this point. It's his primary qualification and direct orders to disregard targeting guidelines are the principle element of his war.

•

u/LangyMD 1h ago

Yeah, but would Trump go for it? Absolutely. And unfortunately he's the only person who legally has a say in it.

I do think the plan to use a MOAB that was floated a few weeks ago is purely because Trump wanted to nuke Iran and they're trying to convince him that the biggest non-nuclear bomb would be an acceptable substitution. Not sure whether they've succeeded though, of course.

•

u/Locke66 1h ago

I do think the plan to use a MOAB that was floated a few weeks ago is purely because Trump wanted to nuke Iran

This is almost certainly what they did in 2017 when Trump wanted to drop a nuke in Afghanistan. They randomly dropped one on a cave complex which doesn't make much sense from a military perspective given it's not a penetrating weapon.

•

u/jackal_actual 1h ago

Moabs are like 1500 times less powerful than Hiroshima was and we have like 10-20 moabs. I don't see it working out long term if Iran doesn't immediately capitulate.

•

u/HansBrickface 1h ago

Plus MOABs have to be dropped from big, slow, decidedly unstealthy transport planes like C-130s. I’m no military expert but that would be a suicide mission anywhere much past Iran’s borders.

•

u/Imaginary_Scene2493 South Carolina 1h ago

Which is so utterly perverse from a Christian perspective. One of our principal values is humility. Anyone who thinks that they can control “the end times” in any sense has to be incredibly arrogant. The reset needs to be removing this administration from power.

I wonder if Trump really just knows that he’s finished or that it’s all crumbling down. His presser the other day was outrageous with all of his vitriol and his tone (I know it’s very normal) it was like… exceptionally combative.

I bet he knows the only thing he’s got, and the only thing he THINKS he’s got, is this war. It’s not a war that’s causing him to lose because it’s unpopular, he’s only losing because WE don’t like it. He just does whatever he wants and others have kissed his ass all the way to the top, so he expects everyday people to do the same.

I’d say bombs’ll be dropping well after the midterms no matter what.

Iran is refusing to surrender and is demanding what would be a total US surrender. They are willing to accept immense pain in order to take down an American president.

There is no way a malignant narcissist like Trump could back down from something like this, so his only choice is to escalate. The US can absolutely win this war decisively, but it’s going to require a full scale invasion which will cost thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of American lives, and possibly trillions of dollars.

But that’s the only option Trump has that won’t cause a mortal wound to his ego. Unless he goes for nukes.

u/GloryofSatan1994 1h ago

Only like a 1,000 if those are infantry. Doubt theres an invasion of kharg.

Edit: its normal to deploy marine infantry when a carrier group goes on deployment. There isnt anything unusual about the numbers of marines

•

u/xenolithic 1h ago

My understanding was this is a MEU (Attached to the CSG) that's meant to relieve the MEU that had been in place since this whole thing kicked off rather than a plus up.

Invade Kharg, Iran flatten it, US uses nukes

I feel sick knowing that this is a distinct possibility

•

u/jackp0t789 1h ago

If the US uses nukes on Iran, it opens the door for Putin to use them in Ukraine...

Which honestly may have been Putin's play from the start.

•

u/AusToddles 1h ago

Honestly I don't think Putin is dumb enough to use them. But it gives him the ability to say "the US, your allies, used them so nothing to stop us"

•

u/jackp0t789 1h ago

Dumb enough ? No... but 5 years of a war that nets Russia maybe a couple dozen km of shelled to shit wasteland a month at the cost of thousands of casualties might make him desperate for a nuclear powered breakthrough

10k what? A carrier itself is like 5k, it’s not ground troops.

Before midterms the US will plunge the entire world into chaos. I wouldn't put past Trump and his cronies to just start throwing nukes at Iran....

•

u/Time-Wolf 1h ago

Is this what living through the cold war felt like?

•

u/desslox 36m ago

Actually, I don’t recall waking up everyday to this much madness. Everyday something new or a new version of whatever it is. There wasn’t really a “fear” but we knew stuff could happen. But again, not this much madness. We also did not have the (political) news. It was much more tame. No clicks to click. The ad revenue wasn’t set up like today. lol, just a slightly different view of those in office and the government doing the moral things. Yes some thing we’re shitty but, even if you were to compare like wages are compared today, I think the madness of today is greater. IMHO

I guess this is how they will end up canceling elections.

•

u/javabrewer Colorado 2h ago

They cant cancel shit

•

u/koi-lotus-water-pond 1h ago

They are run by the states. There is no way in hell, my state, MI, is going to cancel the election over Trump doing something stupid.

•

u/BatterMyHeart 37m ago

Trump aligned states will.  With them not participating there is a crisis and no change in senate or house leadership, so still no check on the executive.   I think they could delay elections for at least 6 months to a year without swing voters punishing them, buying time for more attacks on Iran, a new war or other distraction.  Also this is what an LLM strategy module would absolutely greenlight, and all of them have AI psychosis and will do dumb and crazy things with LLM advice.

•

u/ofWildPlaces 13m ago

Any state failing to hold elections would simply lack representation in Congress.

•

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 1h ago

There is no mechanism in the US Constitution that allows for elections to be cancelled by the federal government, let alone a single branch of government.

Even less so for a war in the middle east.

•

u/ImADataCenter 30m ago

oh yeah the constitution has really held up well so far. y’all are delusional if you think anything about midterms wont be unfair or violent. he can completely call to cancel elections and no it won’t directly cancel them but yes it’ll create a cluster fuck with multi month to multi year delays in rendering them…

•

u/ofWildPlaces 13m ago

He can't cancel elections because he does not control the elections.

•

u/WisePresentation7976 20m ago

It has, actually.

•

u/Ok-Lets-Talk-It-Out 19m ago

He cannot call to cancel elections and if he did states would ignore him

•

u/gquax 1h ago

The Civil War didn't even stop elections. People need to stop saying this shit.

•

u/Kerfufflefluffles 25m ago

People also need to stop acting like we can predict anything right now because of the way things have historically been. Trump doesn’t give a flying fuck about whether he can or can’t do something, he does what he wants because no one stops him.

We went through two gadam world wars and never once ceased any local or federal election.

•

u/AusToddles 1h ago

Nah the election will happen, but it will be absolute fucking chaos... voters will get intimidated, mail trucks will magically disappear, results will be challenged and then ignored

•

u/kevonicus 1h ago

I called this the moment I saw him get giddy about Ukraine not having elections during wartime. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see some terrorist attacks on U.S. soil as well.

•

u/MaverickBG 1h ago

I think this is the only pathway to their "cancel the election" strategy. A war somewhere else (especially just a midterm) won't be enough. A terrorist attack? Absolutely. "You don't change the coach in the middle of the game" will be blasted on the airwaves. Doubly impactful if it's a terrorist attack in DC that threatens Dear Leader personally.

Will I think it will work? No. We'll still have an election. But I could see the plan being taking the fear and chaos to 11 which I think is an environment that conservatism thrives.

•

u/yourpseudonymsucks 51m ago

That’s some “wag the dog” shit.

•

u/CrawlerSiegfriend 1h ago

US elections don't get cancelled. We will be having our election even if the whole world goes into mutually assured destruction protocol.

•

u/Idrinkbeereverywhere 1h ago

They can't, because states run the elections

•

u/WisePresentation7976 21m ago

Nah, the second they realized they weren't going to win the elections, they just stopped trying to be popular lol.

•

u/No_Foundation16 5m ago

They ain't going to cancel shit! The states have sole authority over elections.

Now maybe the GOP traitor scum in Congress will refuse to seat the huge blue tsunami that's coming their way. Then we will have a constitutional crisis and who knows what happens then.

Fuck Bibi for dragging our degenerate president into this fucking useless war.

•

u/cableguy316 1h ago

It’s not easy for me to say this, but President Donald John “The Toilet” Trump might not be the best guy for the job!

•

u/Starks New York 1h ago

Trump and Bibi want their October surprise before their elections. Using MOABs on Iran and maybe against the Houthis.

•

u/kickflipjones 36m ago

but usa is winning right?

•

u/TC-NZ 23m ago

Is that just another move you do when you've won a war so many times?

•

u/OccidoViper 1m ago

Here is how it going to play out: 1. Democrats win both House and Senate 2. Trump decides Fuck the World and nukes Iran. Let everything fall where they may

•

u/USDXBS 2h ago

I hope they don't murder more children before they leave.

•

u/Yadahoom 1h ago

They're called Warriors now, not troops.

•

u/Gold_Map_236 47m ago

Warriors, troops, soldiers? nah they’re just pawns

•

u/Chiepmate 1h ago

And then it got worse.

•

u/HandsLikePaper 1h ago

So either Trump is preparing to escalate or, as Iran did demand the US leave the middle east, Trump is preparing to capitulate.

•

u/sbeklaw 58m ago

Because we’re winning so much, right? We destroyed them so badly we have to evacuate. That’s pretty standard procedure for the winning side of any war, right?

I can’t read the article because of a paywall. Why is everyone talking about nukes? I assumed this was Trump gearing up to attack Kharg Island.
