Social media posts by outraged conservatives who received the mailers began appearing on Monday as early voting in the state began – and just a week after Texas voters reported receiving unsolicited texts linking to the Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) website. Like the text messages, the “Texas Trans & LGBTQ+ Student Resource Guide” pamphlets include TENT’s web address and also a QR code linking to its website.

But the organization has denied any involvement with the texts or the mailers. “These text messages and mailers were not authored, authorized, approved, or distributed by TENT and are not affiliated with our organization,” reads a statement on the group’s website. “The texts do not represent the official position or communications of the organization.”

“They come from GOP backed groups riling up outrage,” independent journalist and policy consultant Adam Cochran wrote in a Tuesday X post, adding that the mailers “likely violate election law.”

Meanwhile, fellow journalist Christopher Hooks suggested that conservative voters incensed by the mailers should be more concerned about how the organization that sent them got their addresses in the first place.

As for TENT, the organization has shut down its website, which now simply features its statement disavowing the texts and mailers. Last week, TENT sent a cease-and-desist notice to two digital messaging companies, demanding they stop a client from impersonating the LGBTQ+ advocacy group.

TENT told the Tribune that backlash to the texts and mailers has resulted in threats of violence. But in a statement, the group said the experience “will not shake our commitment to the dignity and humanity of trans youth, trans Texans, their families, and their loved ones.”

“Trans Texans belong here in Texas,” it continued, “This is our home, and we’re not going anywhere.”

It's insane how Christian nationalists will claim they're so holy while violating the 9th commandment.

Bearing false witness seems to be a calling card for Republicans.

"I lie for Jesus!"

•

u/specqq 5h ago

I lie for the people who tell me I should lie for Jesus because they know what Jesus wants better than I do.

"I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires." —Susan B. Anthony

Every time I see that quote it seems more bitterly Ironic than the last, given the people who took her name for their society that fights against the reproductive rights of women as if that’s what Susan B Anthony would have wanted.

They also try to claim Wonder Woman as an icon as well, which is weird considering Wonder Woman is based on Olive Byrne, the niece of Margaret Sanger

Apparently means justify the ends for them

•

u/Zardotab 5h ago

Zealots often rationalize ends-justify-means, seen it with my own eyes.

When "pro-life" Christian nationalists are incensed by the mere existence of an organization advocating for saving the lives of children.

•

u/southpawFA Oklahoma 5h ago

Republicans only care about children being child soldiers and child laborers.

After all, someone has to work in the meat-packing plants! /s

It's further proof conservatives WANT a culture war discussion. Anything is preferrable to talking about the economy and Iran/Ukraine. Whatever your opinion, it has been a winning formula in mobilizing the GOP voters for over a decade.

•

u/southpawFA Oklahoma 5h ago

It's also making people like me leave the church. If the church wants to act as GOP SuperPAC, then they won't do it with me involved.

They keep wondering why church attendance is down, especially for women. Well, they've turned into a Theobro political action committee.

If this keeps up, I'm certain churches will start shutting down en masse over the next five years. After all, who wants their lives controlled by the Heritage Foundation? Hell no!

Man, you need to say which Church, otherwise your just sterotyping all churches. Which includes the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

•

u/TooPrettyForBoymode 5h ago

And it’s further proof to stop engaging with them on culture wars. Engaging with them only creates validity around their culture wars and you cede the narrative.

If you have to talk about their culture wars, you absolutely must figure out how to bring it back to policy/the real issues.

•

u/MrBigglesssworth 5h ago

And yet the results of before and after are NEVER better. Why do they keep voting for worse ?

•

u/Senior_Torte519 Kentucky 30m ago

At least go to war with Wyoming and call it Lil Texas afterward.

•

u/Begmypard 5h ago

"Some think..." There is zero fucking doubt that it is designed to stir up anti-trans sentiment and galvanize hate driven right wing voters to go vote.

Unbelievable the lengths these people will go to in order to spread their hatred.

•

u/southpawFA Oklahoma 5h ago

Yup. Christian nationalists once again keep trying to demonize trans people, because they would have no purpose in their lives without hating others.

It's amazing how Christian nationalists can spew vituperative and mendacious hate from behind their pews, and they still get rewarded with tax exemptions. They don't reflect a church that is of every tribe, color, and nation. They seem more like the Klan.

Why is Wyoming allowed to influence Texas elections?

•

u/zorathustra69 5h ago

It’s for LLC anonymity. Almost certainly not actually residents of the state

•

u/MiddleAgedSponger 5h ago

But I thought corporations were people? or is that only when they are working class or not white? It's all so convoluted.

•

u/Zardotab 5h ago

Corporations have even more rights than people in MAGAland.

•

u/lonelyturtlegirl 1h ago

Why are you asking about that? Shouldn’t you be talking about transgender bathrooms on hormones?

•

u/TurnedToClay 5h ago

Because gays.

Of course it’s a GOP operation. The organization the guide claims to be denies it made the fucking material. The people who did this bank on maga being stupid and gullible, as they’ve been taught by Trump. And hey, look at that. It works.

•

u/TheBlackWindHowls 5h ago

I thought the timing of that unsolicited pamphlet showing up in the mailbox was suspicious, given how the airwaves have been inundated with anti-trans political messaging. Explains a lot.

•

u/southpawFA Oklahoma 5h ago

Christian nationalists are trying to fear-monger yet again, and they don't care that trans people are actual human beings who are trying to just make another day.

That's the shit that pisses me off about all this. Christian nationalists don't see trans people as humans. They only see trans people as "demons" who they wish to eradicate. They demonize trans people so that their congregants remain afraid to even approach a trans person, keeping them in an infinite loop of fear. I've had it with this fear campaign from Republicans. I am done with church until this changes. I am tired of Christian nationalist politicking in church.

u/ProcedureWhole2403 5h ago

Being scared or outraged by trans kids is empirically funny. That's what your worried about? Trans kids? That's the thing keeps you up at night? I'm 58 and can state clearly that a trans kid hasn't affected my life in even a tiny significance ever

•

u/SarasCaptions 4h ago

I wonder how many kids got in trouble with their parents thinking their child requested this.

•

u/Malodoror 3h ago

It’s called a “Psyop”. “Some think”? More accurate would be “Total morons think this is real”.

u/Stabmaster Texas 3h ago

Yup got one today

•

u/Frank_Likes_Pie 5h ago

I got one of the texts, and I haven’t been registered to vote in Texas for 7 years. Last time I did vote in Texas, it was straight blue. They’re barking up the wrong tree with me.

The trans flag on the envelope isn't even right. It's clearly not made by an actual trans organization.

•

u/StevenMC19 6h ago

Be wary of the link. I click into it, it shows, then it auto-redirects after about a second to another article about inmate care.

Just FYI.

I got one of these in the mail. didn't even open it.

The Reds are out in force with their misleading as fuck propaganda down here. Since Monday, I’ve gotten more than two dozen text messages from unknown numbers, pretty much all of which start with the phrase:

“Early Voting is here, and you need to know the truth about what we’re up against. <Insert some horribly wrong, absurdist take on Talerico or other Democrat candidate’s actions>.”

or

“It’s early voting season, and <insert Republican>, who did <insert played-up charity-centric ‘for the common people’ thing> needs your help.”

——

Honestly, I’m half tempted to respond to each of them with “Sure thing, boss. I’ll get right on that after you tell me how you plan to commit voter fraud, because I already ‘accidentally’ voted straight Blue, and I’ll need your help changing that.” Just to see what they say, lol.
