Whether the ad was appropriate or not is not really my concern.

Yeah, this guy is totally on brand.

1.7k

u/iceflame1211 8h ago

He said basically the same thing about the lies about Haitians he made up/helped spread.

"Appropriateness" and "truth" aren't really things the Republican party is capable of anymore.

661

u/itsmuddy 8h ago

He was told there wasn’t going to be any fact checking.

303

u/Thrashosaurus_Wrecks 8h ago

I still don't understand why the Harris campaign didn't clip that and put it into every campaign ad for the rest of the election cycle.

I want to know when I'm wrong, so I can make better decisions that are informed by facts. Why is that a bad thing?

312

u/wo_lo_lo Texas 8h ago

They were too busy trying to appease literally everyone while impressing literally no one.

151

u/kingsumo_1 Oregon 8h ago

That's a perfect description. Walz was doing really good work for awhile there. They should have leaned into his approach rather than tempering him into theirs. It's sad that it should be that way, but it frankly is.

Conservatives weren't going to vote for her, so campaigning with them was a waste of time. And there is a large swath that needs to be enthused. And her campaign failed on that front as well.

143

u/Thrashosaurus_Wrecks 8h ago

Exactly that. Shutting down Walz calling them weird was one of the worst decisions they made. It was so effective, and all their responses just proved his point. But no, they had to take the high road and fall off a cliff.

I miss Walz outright calling Musk a "dipshit." We need more blunt honesty directed towards the "weirdos" affiliated with the Republican party.

•

u/djanes376 Illinois 4h ago

I believe he said musk was ‘skipping around like a dipshit’. One of my favorite quotes in politics. The DNC did Walz dirty.

•

u/Decent_Cheesecake_29 7h ago

Kamala’s campaign turned to shit the instant the DNC consultants took over at the convention.

•

u/kingsumo_1 Oregon 6h ago

Yup. We seriously need to get all of them out of there. If the option on one side is literally fascism led my fucking Trump, and the best we can pull is essentially "well, we'll probably win this time" there is a HUGE gaping issue that needs to be addressed.

America has far too many people that are stupid enough to vote for the side that openly admits, "yeah we just make up whatever shit sounds good to help us gain more power" and think everything is going to turn out fine. We can all see how that's working out 2 years into a trump/vance administration.

70

u/kia75 8h ago

Harris thought that she was guaranteed a win against Donald Trump so she concentrated on building bridges with all of the non-Trump Republicans. She was trying to set up a post-Trump coalition.

The problem is that building bridges to Republicans both alienated her left-leaning base, causing them to not want to vote for her, and very few of the "post-Trump Republicans" bothered to switch their vote for her, they either held their nose while they voted for Trump despite Harris's efforts, or at best just didn't vote for Trump.

Democrats keep on trying to build bridges with people who don't want any bridges built to them!

•

u/So-Called_Lunatic Kentucky 7h ago

For once they need to take a page out of Sarah Palin's book and say thanks, but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere.

It’s the whole conservative mindset. Think about what you want to do and make up the excuse for it after.

•

u/Picnicpanther California 5h ago

Hard truth: because people in the center and right think of “fact checking” as gotcha journalism instead of something that yknow determines whether someone is lying their ass off or not

•

u/Jesbro64 7h ago

Because they didn't want to seem too mean or insulting to Republicans.

That debate was embarassing for both candidates and I say that as a big Walz fan.

Walz was tripping over himself to agree wirh Vance or seem like him and Vance were more or less on the same page.

It was insane. Democratic consultants are a plague. That's probably too generous though. More likely the powers that be in the democratic party want the party to be Republicans-lite or diet GOP so they can remain palatable to their corporate overlords, I mean donors.

u/petrovmendicant 7h ago

In a normal world, he would have been more sly or masked it and said, "scrutinizing," "validating," or something to that effect. Literally and openly complaining about "fact-checking" in a live vice-presidential debate and then winning the election anyway is bonkers crazy...but not here in America.

•

u/Willchud 5h ago

“If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do, Dana, because you guys are completely letting Kamala Harris coast,” Vance said.

The bold part just means lying.

Newt Gingrich summoned this up like 10 years ago. Republican voters want to be told what they feel is true, not what actually is true.

Is he the same guy who wanted open marriage so he can bang as many chics as he can?

In no point in his entire life have I seen evidence there would be enough women to want to bang him to justify that request

This is also the same guy hegseth announced is one of the trifecta of leaders on that new bullshit panel. I opened his wiki because I already forgot the name of it and I’m happy to say I couldn’t find it on there either

It's disturbing how he's outright saying that only winning matters.

He's openly telling Republicans to go as low as they can.

55

u/Thrashosaurus_Wrecks 8h ago

He's been saying that the entire time. He made up the lie about Haitian immigrants eating cats and dogs to "start a conversation." He refused to debate Walz unless they agreed to "no fact checking." He's never been concerned with the truth.

33

u/Gibonius 8h ago

He said that straight up during the 2024 campaign when he admitted lying about the "eating cats and dogs" story. Truth absolutely doesn't matter to them.

The video: https://x.com/OhioCrawler/status/2112341856256409759

“I have to admit that I’m a little bit disgusted when I see Republicans across the country who are whining more about that advertisement than they are about what the congressional Democrats and other Democrats want to do to the United States of America,” Vance said at a fraud task force press conference Wednesday."

"The ad features the mother of Ramaswamy’s Democratic opponent, Amy Acton, who accuses Acton of being a “liar” and saying “my daughter needs help.”

"Acton’s brother released a statement and a competing video hours later saying that he and Acton have been estranged from their mother for years because she stayed married to the man who sexually abused Acton at a young age. Acton was removed from her mother’s care at the age of 12, something unmentioned in the Ramaswamy ad."

"The personal nature and controversy surrounding the ad led Democrats and some Republicans to condemn it and call on Ramaswamy, who admitted Tuesday that the ad was from his campaign, to change course."

"Axios reported Tuesday that Ramaswamy’s campaign will now spend $4 million on airing the ad statewide."

"Vance, a former Ohio senator, said Wednesday that he is not concerned about the ad and is only focused on Republicans winning Ohio."

“Whether the ad was appropriate or not is not really my concern,” Vance said."

"The initial video – which was shared widely on social media, including by the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. – has been roiling the gubernatorial race since it first showed up on social media, bringing the abuse Democratic nominee Amy Acton said she suffered at the hands of her stepfather to the forefront."

"Democrats condemned the spot, and even some Republicans – including Nikki Haley and Meghan McCain – were critical. But Ohio Republicans have so far been quiet, and Vance’s remarks appeared to be an attempt to keep the party in line during an especially fraught moment."

"On Tuesday morning, Acton’s campaign released a statement from her brother, Philip Stearns, denouncing the video and linking it to Ramaswamy."

“It’s not surprising that Vivek Ramaswamy has stooped to such a despicable low as to attempt to turn the sexual abuse Amy endured at twelve years old from our birth mother’s husband into a political talking point,” Stearns said. “After he was arrested and Amy and I were removed from their custody, our birth mother stayed married to Amy’s rapist until he died.”

Textbook argument for power by any means. Not as charismatic as Trump, but 100% as dangerous.

227

u/Fuck-WestJet 8h ago

I actually think Vance is more dangerous as he doesn't have stupid pet projects to occupy his time.

108

u/MonkeyWrench1973 8h ago

And is 100% not bothered by things like integrity and telling the truth. Trump has told tens of thousands verified lies while in Office. Vance lives his life saying "Pffftttt. Amatuer" and works very hard every day to not tell the truth in any utterance.

84

u/morsindutus 8h ago

Trump is a consummate bullshit artist. Vance is a liar. Trump doesn't know or care what the truth is, he just spouts whatever nonsense crosses his battered neurons. Vance knows the truth and chooses to explicitly lie to further his fascist ideology.

Vance is the hope upon which their plans to formally enact end times fascism rests.

The Republican ability to imagine the Democrats as worse no matter how bad the Republicans get truly knows no bounds.

The Republican ability to imagine the Democrats as worse no matter how bad the Republicans get truly knows no bounds.

Because it gives them permission to continue being their awful, shitty, selves. That is the core of their projection and victim complex - in a shitty world where everyone is as shitty as the shitty conservative, criticizing conservatives for their shittiness is singling them out. It's unfair and mean.

•

u/nhavar 7h ago

"Imagine how many more children the Democrats might rape versus the ones we rape. Just imagine that..." (starts drooling)

21

•

u/stevez_86 Pennsylvania 7h ago

"It doesn't matter if we lie, it is winning that counts. So lying is fair game".

This is the guy that said the lies about immigrants eating pets was fine because it got people talking about immigrants in a bad light which they should be.

Vance is the point man for that philosophy.

This is most definitely your concern. This is a direct indication that the Republican candidate is either an incompetent asshole, or a power hungry monster. Neither is fit to serve in government.

Your responsibility is to serve the country, not your party. Your responsibility is to address the ad, and understand your side failed to nominate a decent person.

Your statement reveals you are more concerned with power than anything else. But we knew that already.

The Consumer Protection Bureau allowed regular people a way to hold corporations accountable and the ACA allowed people with preexisting conditions to keep health insurance. These two things hurt profits of companies and sided with people over profit. The GOP would never allow such things.

American here. Same.

But I have relatives that actually vote for these people. I know they aren’t stupid, so something else is at work. My sense is that they are afraid. They plug themselves in to these horribly wrong horror shows of “news” channels and soak it all up.

BLM riots? Out here in the real world I dug for facts and found that nearly all events were peaceful, and the 3% that were not were responses to outside agitators.

My relatives believe entire cities were burned to the ground and are uninhabitable. I ask them, “which cities?” They don’t know which ones exactly, but they are sure it happened. There were stories about the destruction every 15 minutes for months. They never thought to check via other sources.

Fox even got caught airing footage of Basque Separatist riots in Spain and passing it off as footage from Detroit. You’d think the burning Citroens and Fiats with Spanish tags would be a problem for them, but no. Their audience was conditioned to expect carnage and they delivered.

By the way, gang is black if you listen to the whistle.

I know several of those voters as well. If it’s not stupidity, it’s ignorance. Stupidity, in many ways, is excusable. Willful ignorance, on the other hand, is disgraceful.

100% it's fear. Fear that someone will have the power to treat them the way they've treated others, fear that their way of life is ending, fear they will be irrelevant.

I mostly don't even understand the issues with dems as an American.

The amount of positive things Dems have tried that have been blocked by republicans over that past 15 years would have been absurdly positively transformative for Americans.

If Dems had like 60 percent majority over the past decade wed have universal healthcare, free school lunch for kids, consumer protections, price gouging rules, housing relief, higher taxes on corporations and the rich, better sick leave, better paternity maternity leave, better infrastructure, roe v wade, gun control, more fair voting rules with auto registration and no gerrymadnering, better renewable energy advancements, less discrimination, more unions with better legal protections and rights, higher minimum wage, more equal pay, net neutrality, ai regulations, likely overturning of citizens united, restrictions on undisclosed political donations, way less online misinformation, un ungutted consumer financial protection bureau, USAID and millions of unnecessary deaths related to its gutting wouldn't happen, actual international statesmanship and respect on the global stage, etc

It's a fucking endless list but Nancy Pelosi traded stocks and dems accept corporate donations so both sides are the same

Itd absolutely fucking insane how goddamn comically evil republicans are

We should be debating democratic policies vs democratic socialist policies not "is it ok to send a Guatemalan who overstayed their visa to die in Libya and orphan their 2 year old who was arrested by a redneck who posts racists social media shit and shot an unarmed protestor in the neck before going home to commit domestic abuse"

I’m an American and many of us feel the same way. Democrats are far from perfect and both sides have their corporate masters but Democrats at least make some efforts to improve things

Most of their failures come from one or two traitors who side with Republicans and Republicans spreading so many lies about them that they can’t refute them all fast enough

JD Vance is a piece of shit.

•

u/starkey2 5h ago

His face shows the banality of evil.

Remember when the Nazi groupchat from the young republicans came out? This piece of shit was defending them and saying they are just young. Not a word about racism. All about forgiving peoples "stupid jokes."

“Whether the ad was appropriate or not is not really my concern,” Vance said. “What is my concern is who is going to govern the next generation of American government, who is going to win the Senate race in the state of Ohio, who is going to win the governor’s race in the state of Ohio?”

These are the kind of people you want governing? I think you just told on yourself, man.

Oh, maybe this is an opportunity to create an AI generated ad using Fred Trump saying how he never really loved Donnie and how he's impressed with how well of a liar he's become? I mean, this sounds like totally fair politics according to Vance.

Maybe one gets made of Vance with a chesterfield describing how its been defiled and how Vance can't be trusted?

•

u/NYCinPGH 7h ago

The difference is that your proposed AI is almost certainly true. Donnie wasn’t the favored son and presumed heir, his older brother Fred Jr was, until Fred Jr decided he didn’t want to go into the family business and suddenly Donnie was the only option left.

And Fred did always did like a liar and a grifter - who was on his side - just look at Roy Cohn.

Shocking, top Republicans platforming an abuser.

Sorry, gonna call out what it is: giving an abuser a platform to keep attacking her target. You don't have to agree with Acton at all to know that's fucking wrong.

Vance proving he's just as vile as Ramaswamy

21

u/RamonaQ-JunieB 8h ago

Vance is a lowlife, despicable person. So is Ramaswamy. His quotes in this article are gross. Absolutely disgusting.

•

u/Jambalayatime 7h ago

Anybody old enough to remember the 2004 presidential campaign should recall the moment in the VP debate where John Edwards attempted to leverage and weaponize Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter against him. It was slimy, cringy, pre-meditated, and actually managed to portray Cheney, who displayed restraint, as briefly sympathetic.

This is equivalent in terms of outright sliminess. It's so evidently wrong that to not distance yourself from it when asked is to whiff at one of the most softball questions politics can offer. It speaks to a deficit of character and gives Vance's future GOP primary opponents ammunition.

•

u/loach12 6h ago

Actually this is why worse that what John Edwards did . He pointed out the hypocrisy of him putting politics over his daughter wellbeing ( eventually he did change once out of office ) This here is defending the idea of protecting a pedophile protecting so-called mother who was a POS .

→ More replies (1)

•

u/Jambalayatime 7h ago

I'll mention that the reason this comparison came to mind is that many left/Democrat voters saw this happen and kinda recoiled. Edwards was a rising star at the time and this, arguably more than being on a losing ticket, really caused his career to lose momentum. Several years later Edwards would do even skeezier things to prove what we all took away from the debate.

Granted, that was a big stage with a lot of eyes, and Vance will likely not take heat long-term for this, but it's super low-rent.

•

u/casualreader22 Pennsylvania 6h ago

Not that they shouldn't have recoiled, but Democrats having standards while Republicans don't is nothing new, even in 2004. As sad as it is if anything it actually gives Republicans an advantage with the way the system is currently configured. Too many Democrats seek perfection while Republicans will overlook just about anything, and look where it's helped to lead us.

u/Main-Bandicoot6477 6h ago

Well, at least with that there is some point to be made about how could someone be one of the leaders of a party that outright works against things like marriage equality while also having a gay child.

Now, I don't think it's a great idea to bring up or talk about a candidate's family members, and I understand the more cynical take that it was done to try get Republicans to maybe not like Cheney just because he had a gay child, but I still don't think these are equivalent. Are they both dirty politics? Sure, but one I think is still much worse.

The most loathsome and cringey VP in history is attacking his own republicult for trying to show they have any moral compass whatsoever. Not a good look right before mid-terms.

13

u/Objective-Giraffe-27 8h ago

Trump and Vance really are the dream team for worst political leaders of all time.

•

u/DJPho3nix 5h ago

“Politics is a tough business,” Vance added. “My message to my fellow elected Republicans is if you actually believe in the things you say you believe in, stop whining about an advertisement and go win the race in 13 days.”

So, if you're a real Republican, stop whining about other Republicans crafting abhorrent false narratives against preteen SA victims because winning is more important?

13

u/imjustnotready 8h ago

You have to give it Vance. It can't be easy to keep hitting new lows. Nothing but net Vance.

•

u/ogreofnorth 7h ago

Here is the crazy reality. From talking with people in this field, in these situations, whether made up or not with children who may or may not have been abused, they take it seriously. It is well investigated and usually if it does not churn up 100% truth, they try and reunite with mother most of the time. They took not only her but her brother. Both children. The mother has been consistent. She thinks she lied the whole time. Burden of proof was different enough they had cause to remove children.

And a Republican’s best attempt to shut down their opponent was to drum this to the surface. It shows how far the Party has fallen. My wife a long voting Republican since she was able to, said, she will not vote for another one.

For years they have called Democrats “sheep.” All while following blindly their cult. And now the second most powerful by ranking, is saying this. It’s disgusting. First Epstein, now this. The party of pedophiles.

•

u/MABQuestAcc 7h ago

This was the straw the broke the camel's back for your wife?

It's not small potatoes but if this is what made her finally say they won't vote Republican any more...

•

u/ogreofnorth 7h ago

It is everything up to this point. She stopped voting Republican when Trump got the nomination in 2016. And then seeing all of them fall in line with him solidified it

Always without examples. Here's a list from Acton's website. Which of these does Vance think is worse than supporting child rape?

  • Reducing costs for Ohio families (with several examples)
  • Cleaning up corruption
  • Improving education
  • Growing Ohio jobs
  • Standing up for workers
  • Safer communities
  • Reproductive freedom
  • Aging in place
  • LGBTQ rights
  • Rural communities, black communities, veterans
  • Forcing data centers to pay for their utiilties

“I have to admit that I’m a little bit disgusted when I see Republicans across the country who are whining more about that advertisement than they are about what the congressional Democrats and other Democrats want to do to the United States of America,”

Hey everybody, JD Vance's brain doesn't work correctly.

Can we get somebody who has a fully functional brain to be VP? Thank you American voters.

I'm getting really tired of people who do not have fully functional brains gaining power over others.

Edit: I'm more than a little bit disgusted and appalled by the inhuman and monstrous comments by the Vice President. Obviously we can't have somebody who is incapable of caring about human beings, being responsible for making decisions for them. The behavior is absurd and evil. This guy seems like he's trying to prove how dead he is...

He really followed up saying that the appropriateness of the ad wasn't his concern by claiming all he's concerned about is the right person is chosen to the Senate, as though someone playing such a grossly inappropriate ad isn't a direct indicator of the standard of the person who rand and approved of the ad. Republicans are so utterly disgusting.

That ad is disgusting because it implicitly gives credibility to a child rapist.

Objecting to the ad means you think child rapists are bad.

MAGA supports child rapists, and it needs its followers to do the same. That's why JD Vance is disgusted by those that decry that ad.
