We still learn about how Kim Campbell destroyed an already doomed 1993 campaign for the conservative party in Canada by making an attack ad that seriously looked like they were making fun of the fact that Jean Chretien has Bell's Palsy.

I had to watch Michael Dukakis in a tank in one of my classes, yeah.

With his big ole helmet on. That's the first presidential election I remember as a child.

The whole ad is bad but that helmet really did him no favors

What subject? I recall the awkward visuals and squeaky audio of Dukakis driving around in that tank and agree it really hurt his campaign. For a short while the coverage of Trump’s military parade gave off the same kind of vibe but it didn’t stick. Why not?

Political science class, yeah.

Trump's shitty military parade was a joke, but it's been overshadowed by even worse things like ICE's reign of terror, the war in Iran, and the ongoing Epstein files uproar.

That has been the pattern with Trump. Yesterday’s embarrassment or outrage is overshadowed by today’s, which will be forgotten when he does something else tomorrow.

it's why Trump loves AI, it allows a manufactured reality to present to his base and his base absolutely loves it! He sends out AI videos of Iran getting bombed and his base cheers that something is getting done lol.

That didn't help, but there were a bunch of issues with the Campbell campaign, along with the absolute disgust with the Mulroney government, that made it unlikely that she could win. The real turning point in the campaign came when she said that unemployment would remain high and she had no plan to deal with it - her support dropped off a cliff immediately.

She was a weak candidate in every way. The PCs were determined to have a woman be PM - good for them - but all of the strong candidates, like Carney and McDougall, declined to run, so they wound up with a political rookie and serial liar, with none of the necessary political instincts.

Shit, the current Republican party would try to give an award if that aired today.
