Benedict's actual impact was pretty small. His plan to surrender that fort didn't work, and when he switched sides he only led a couple minor raids. Plus, the outrage of his defection united the colonies even more.

Trump is actively bringing on the collapse of American hegemony and the fall of America as the leader of the free world. In addition, the US Aid cuts that Elon did on behalf of Trump have led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people already.

Plus Benedict Arnold was actually a brave and courageous general for the continental army of George Washington, who risked his life and was almost killed in a couple of battles.

He only turned traitor after repeatedly being mistreated by the continental congress . Even then, after he was broke , it took a bad marriage to the wrong woman to get him to become a traitor.

Trump willingly decided to become a traitor.

Benedict Arnold was still a traitor but Trump is much worse than him.

And if nothing else, Benedict Arnold was a traitor for some particular cause. To the British he was a loyalist who risked a lot for their benefit.

Trump cares about nothing except his own personal benefit, and for that matter only his personal benefit in the immediate here-and-now short term. He wants what benefits Trump right here, right now, with no other care or interest beyond that.

I'd find him to be an implausible caricature if he were a fictional character.

The British didn't exactly repay that loyalty. Even they saw him as "if he could do it to them, he could do it to us."

It's the unbridled desire for gold.
