So you pass a law that raises 100% tariffs on any country that buys oil from Russia, then you turn around and buy oil from Russia … 🤦🏻‍♂️

3.2k

u/Psephological 12d ago

Absolutely wild behaviour given "Europe buy Russia oil tho" was a regular line of the MAGAts.

Most of that was Trump's mates Orban and Fico anyway

306

u/Roflkopt3r 12d ago

When Putin started the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the German Green party quickly committed the construction of additional LNG terminals specifically for import of LNG from the US.

To be clear, the same Greens had also opposed the Northstream pipelines to Russia in the first place (in large part specifically with the argument that Northstream would create another vulnerable energy dependency with a dictator, and that we have to diversify away from fossil fuels to break those...).

But when shit truly hit the fan, they quickly compromised on their general aversion to fossil fuels to ensure they could keep their country supplied without having to buy from Russia.

Meanwhile the modern right wing outright supports cooperation with dictators.

53

u/SlyReference 12d ago

Modern? All through the Cold War, American right wing has been happy to chum it up with dictators and former Nazis because they were anti-Communist. It's basically a through line for them.

America tariffed itself in the confusion.

151

u/PrivatePilot9 Canada 12d ago

I mean, that's what's been happening all along since Americans are the ones paying these to begin with, not the other countries like Trump would have everyone believe.

51

u/Heronymous-Anonymous 12d ago

None of the rank and file MAGA have any idea about even basic economics, let alone macro scale economic theory or tariffs.

The only thing they understand is the price of fuel for their truck, the price of beef, and when they get laid off.

Pretty sure starting a war in the Middle East to drive the world to buy Russian oil was Putin’s plan all along. Trump was purchased a long time ago.

u/Confident-Zone-5043 12d ago edited 12d ago

Reminds me of the 4 hour talk they had last year in alaska without anyone present from media or security.

Then we had Xi yin ping visiting under the same pretense and we have no information about what was actually said.

The strategic pipeline (in 2022-ish) that was destroyed that was supplying Russian oil to Europe that Russia was blamed for but ended up being a U.S. operation leads me to think that both sides are in this together against the American people. The government seems fucked.

Trump
wants to supports Russias war against Ukraine apparently

3.6k

u/Scary-Maximum7707 12d ago

This is all worded intentionally so he can accuse Ukraine of hurting USA when they perform operations against Russia.

I hope Ukraine sinks every Russian ship loaded with fuel, and if midterms go the way polls are indicating I hope the senate confirms an impeachment and the orange molester ends up in a cage.

890

u/OGbigfoot 12d ago

Meanwhile, Canada still bad. Mean, nasty people.

208

u/supertoned 12d ago

Yeah. Conservative behavior is following the pattern so far.

Today, the main comment is 'I have supported Trump all along, but...'

Tomorrow Fox will release a talking point, and they'll scratch their head over it.

By Monday they will have a one liner that encapsulates how 'We've always been allies with Eurasia',

Then it will be back to 'Libs are bad and want to change your children's sex ideas' again.

82

u/Lincolns_Revenge Texas 12d ago

They're running an ad constantly here in Texas saying James Talarico wants to send parents to prison who refuse their children sex change operations. Add blatantly lying in campaign advertising to a list of a thousand other norms they break that need to be codified onto laws.

34

u/robodrew Arizona 12d ago

Jay Feely here in AZ keeps saying in ads that "socialist Amish Shah wants sex changes for your children" but Shah has never said anything of the sort and he is absolutely NOT a socialist. It's just all lies every commercial break every night.

23

u/PrivatePilot9 Canada 12d ago

Imagine if there was laws against just blatantly lying about somebody. Something like libel or slander they could call it.

Oh wait, there is laws about this already? But pretty much anybody at any level of government is somehow magically excluded from these laws? That's a shame....

Full statement from dipshit-in-chief:

I have just concluded a highly successful discussion with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, wherein it was agreed that Russia will immediately supply over 300,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel to the American and Global Marketplace, another 500,000 Tons during the month of November, and 1,000,000 Tons immediately thereafter. Additionally, based on the condition of their Diesel Refineries, Russia will then deliver, within a short period of time, 3,000,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel. Between our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz, and this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST! Lower prices for Americans, especially our Great Farmers, Ranchers, and Truckers, is my Greatest Priority. This is a very big and important announcement. Additionally, it must be understood, that Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Link to view his posts with out giving him revenue: https://www.trumpstruth.org/statuses/42215

Edit: the total amount for the first 1.8 million tons doesn't even cover a weeks worth of world diesel usage. That's why he using tons instead of barrels to make it seem like more. The total for all 4 numbers comes out to about 35 million barrels. The US and Europe is releasing 100 million.

This is trump soft launching economic aid to Russia and reduction of sanctions

Edit 2: someone needs to ask Darline Graham how it feels that Trump is spitting in the face of her dead brothers keystone legislation against Russia. I'm assuming she will respond with "I don't really do international politics."

746

u/DungeonCrawlerLopen 12d ago

The biggest red flag is this "based on the condition of their Diesel Refineries..."

This is setting the stage for a Russian alliance. By acting like Russian refineries are going to make a difference to the world economy, Trump will declare Ukraine an enemy to the world and to "protect" the world's oil supply (Russian refineries) he will announce an alliance, and Putin's troll farm and agent Krasnov will finally have accomplished their missions.

299

u/controlledkaoss 12d ago

So this fucker sold out the Ukrainians?

339

u/DungeonCrawlerLopen 12d ago

He sold them out within a month of returning to office by illegally cutting off aid. That is when his lap dog JD Vance asked Zelensky if he had "said thank you once?"

Trump was already impeached his first term for trying to illegally cut funding at that time as well. Trump has been very vocal about ending Ukrainian support and has been very obviously friendly with Putin who he constantly meets with and flatters.

I suspect he's spinning this as a win for everyone at the pumps but really he's trying to stop Ukraine from targeting their fuel. He could've done this a long time ago if it was just about reducing fuel costs, but it seems a priority now that Ukraine has been inflicting pain over Russia's fuel situation. Now, if Ukraine continues, they've got a problem with us.

68

We should all have a problem with us now.

→ More replies (2)

18

u/PinHaunting7192 12d ago

They will continue targeting them one way or another. The reason Biden was able to tell them no was because the US was still giving substantial aid and the condition was that no US weapons are used to strike deep inside Russia.

However, most of the financial support has been taken over by Europe, and they basically donate stuff which they then purchase back. And a lot of deep strikes are done with Ukrainian drone tech. Their domestic drone production is on point.

Quite frankly, Ukraine doesn't care whether they have a problem with the US. The US abandoned them 18 months ago and openly sided with Putin.

But in the short term this could actually be a really good situation for Ukraine, these are two demented old men living in a bubble of yes-men moving around pieces on a board according to a paper reality crafted through fear and magical thinking.

If putin actually throws this deal out there to his underlings as a absolute decree, it's committing them to export diesel they already don't have enough of to support their warmachine let alone their economy. They are currently crippled by shortages and exporting this much to gamble on the support of a president that is 3 weeks away from losing the house and the senate only makes sense in the mind of a desperate old man living in a paper reality.

But it WILL help to finance Russia, specifically their military.

133

u/Gromitlikescheese 12d ago

Does Russia actually have diesel to sell? Maybe if they further starve their domestic market, but just from what I read on the internet, they have severe shortages inside their own country. Even if they do, consider shipping cost to even get it out of the country. We’ll see if any of this is anything but trumps dream.

90

u/ahockofham 12d ago

No, they don't. Trump is just a traitor and it's easy to see where this is heading. Soon he will attempt to blackmail Ukraine into stopping their strikes on Russian refineries, which up to now have been effective at reducing Russia's diesel production. Trump will do anything to help Putin win.

Ask someone mentioned he used tons, but the statement holds- 1 ton is roughly 280 gallons of diesel.

A long haul semi can go through 100 gallons a day, while a short haulers typically burn through half that.

There’s a about 2 million trucks on the road any given day

280x300,000=84,000,000 gallons

84,000,000/2,000,000=42 gallons per truck

Let’s presume it’s 50:50 long haul vs regional and make average daily usage 75gallons

So we take 42/75=0.56

This ‘deal’ is enough fuel for just over half a day.

ETA - the overall 4MM comes out to 7.5 days, not insignificant but stretched out months it’s still kinda a drop in the bucket

What does Putin have on Trump? Why aren’t we investigating this? What the fuck is going on?

85

u/mouse6502 12d ago

for fuckin real. man has been screwing over contractors since the 80s. bankrupted untold amount of companies. a known grifter. a serial vexatious litigator. and people keep lining up to the trump buffet for another heaping helping. make it make fucking sense please

22

u/mrblacklabel71 12d ago

I had an uncle that had friends screwed over by trump's companies back in the 80's and 90's. Same uncle is somehow now a trump supporter. Makes no sense.

Trump has been a Russian asset since the 90s. He got all his funding from Russian banks after he bankrupted all his business ventures. American banks wouldn't loan to him.

Its so blatantly obvious. At this point hit the reset switch and nuke us all. Fuck it, fuck this

https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/1jaheay/comment/mhllyum/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=wallstreetbets_wins&utm_content=t1_mpsroke

They got him by the balls in 1983 and had control of him ever since.

NPR did a story on it early in trumps first term and he went HARDD shutting down their funding.

In addition, Russia teaches a book called “foundations of geopolitics” to their military, it details how to defeat a country like America, you don’t fight it outright.

Instead you find greedy American businessmen and get control of them and push them into politics.

You hijack Americas political system.

And you divide and weaken Americas society, turning them against themselves.

Krasanov was always trying to support his leader. The goal of the war with Iran was to help Israel and also Russia. Russia needs fuel prices to stay high to fight Ukraine. Israel does not want the threat of Iran. Both countries heavily benefited.

The United States uses approximately 4.1 to 4.2 million barrels of diesel and distillate fuel per day. 800,000 metric tons of diesel is equal to approximately 5,919,822 barrels. U.S. refineries produce roughly 4 to 5.3 million barrels of diesel and other distillate fuels per day.

27

u/Straight-Bet1 12d ago

That’s what caught my eye first. It wasn’t an accident that they didn’t use the globally agreed upon measuring system for that specific commodity.

Is this a round about strategy to make the US antagonistic to Ukraine in a structural way?

26

u/Due-Technology5758 12d ago

It's not even roundabout. From a geopolitical standpoint, it's extremely heavy handed. Essentially Trump has just publicly announced that, should he feel like it, he has the option to claim that further Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries are attacks on resources promised to the United States.

This administration continues to hand Russia whatever it wants. We're being steamrolled, politically, by the physically and economically weakest of our rivals because our leadership is a powerful combination of compromised, corrupt, and incompetent.

→ More replies (2)

44

u/Kaizen2468 12d ago

Why? The US already makes more than they use. Wasn’t Trump crying about Ukraine bombing Russian oil refineries? So now they’re in a good enough spot to sell to the US for cheaper?

41

u/RadicalRectangle Colorado 12d ago

This is to give Trump an excuse to try and cut off Ukraine again, when they continue to retaliate (completely reasonably) against Russia. He can then claim Ukraine is hurting US trade and commerce.

If you had told any maga supporter 2 years ago that Trump would be buying Russian diesel while it's still at war with Ukraine because he fucked up so badly he shut down the middle east's oil exports, that person would call you an idiot sheep and say he'd never do that. Yet statistically, that same maga supporter today will still support Trump. Because it's a cult.

39

u/Heavy_Secret_203 12d ago

First of all, these amounts are tiny for what the US consumes. Second, there's diesel shortage in russia and they have export ban. And finally, fuck you, Americans. Sincerely.

36

u/GarmaCyro 12d ago

Correction: After US sent billions to Ukraine.
Trump, Russia's best asset, put a stop to that the moment he was back in the White House.
US is currently contributing nothing. Outside of selling military to NATO allies.

Basically US is a pure war profiter and NATO traitor for 100% siding with Russia.
