Yeah but the media basically forced Trump to do this when they stood up for themselves. /s

Domestic abusers only have a few default options it seems

12

u/mr_oof Sep 22 '26

Domestic abuse victims also seem to be depressingly true to form.

My Dad when BBC exists: “State media is cancer and a waste of taxpayer money”

This announcement: “A necessity for national security, besides, why not get our news directly from the most reliable source.”

What's really sad is growing up the US govt was considered a reliable, if biased, source. That has changed. I'm not from the US but there are usually standards as to where you can quote things from in high school and uni. We are expected to cross verify things that before we didn't need to. This wasn't the case under Obama. It's just difficult to really explain and I don't think most people understand the loss that has taken place.

A prime example of an official government repository that universities no longer trust—and are actively warning researchers to avoid—is the live Data.gov portal and its connected federal databases.

This is just mindblowing.

I'm probably older than you because I remember this as well, but even farther back than during Obama.

Being an American and knowing that you cant trust the governmental sources at all - not just because of biases but literal real information - is surreal. I had a feeling America would probably not stay the world power in my lifetime, but thats because I expected China, the EU, etc, to grow in prominence, not for the US to do a sprint towards becoming a banana republic.

You could never trust US government sources to begin with. They claimed Iraq had WMDs a decade and a half before trump was ever in office just so they could stop them from nationalizing their own oil. They've been calling Cuba an authoritarian dictatorship for like 75 years just for overthrowing the actual dictator the US installed. If the US says the sky is blue you should look out your window and check what's going on.

You're mixing together the very overtly political elements of the executive branch with the theoretically and formerly independent aspects of the federal bureaucracy.

Like basic datasets about factual information were generally reliable. Now, even basic factual reports and datasets are subject to very overt and heavy-handed political meddling.

11

u/PhroneticReflex 29d ago

Exactly this. And it's that neutral administrative layer thats the part that's taken the biggest hit the last decade, and it's what's hurting us most.

Ironically the exact thing that conservatives hate is what made America strongest. Who knew?

u/VigilantMaumau 29d ago

Project 2025. Overhaul the administrative state with party loyalists.

1

u/bnelson 29d ago

Like say, the CIA factbook. Eliminated. We. Need no facts.

3

u/myyrkezaan 29d ago

Iran wanted to nationalize their oil in 1953 and US/UK orchestrated a coup.

2

u/Spraypainthero965 29d ago

And just like with Cuba, America has treated them as villains ever since for not allowing American oligarchs to loot Iran's natural resources.

3

u/Environmental-Ice319 Sep 22 '26

Been awhile since I agreed with mindblowing as a description. This really is. Lasting damage. They will never respect Obama. Will never respect themselves either.

Being 40 in the US and watching it all crumble is wild. Growing up you could legitimately just feel lucky you were born in the US even if we had some pretty fucked up shit our government was doing abroad. Now our healthcare is a joke. Our police are the enemy. Our government is openly bought and paid for. The class war is in full motion and the poors live paycheck to paycheck while the 1% doesn't look past the next quarter earnings. I'm doing ok but it won't last and nobody knows what will happen. There is no plan or stability. It's... Wild.

Turns out when you elect a pathological liar to the most powerful office in the world, he is going to destroy the faith in the US Government that fueled its dominance on the world stage for 75+ years.

Your turn, China, I guess.

Funny thing is, the BBC isn't state-sponsored at all. A portion of taxes and the license fee go into paying for the content they produce.

I'd say it's the sole bastion of mainstream TV that isn't beholden to private shareholders, but then Boris Johnson put some of his cronies in charge of the BBC's news arm, and the news has been heavily biased in favour of the right ever since.

2

u/Biodiversity1001 Sep 22 '26

Trump keeps going on about "fake news" -how many times has he said things like "Iran war will be over the day after elections" Or "gas prices will drop like a rock" or, how about those DOGE checks? Or how much money DOGE saved?

"Truth social" and he is posting AI of himself as Jesus, or flying a plane. Totally made up.

Yes, please define "fake news" for us, your highness.

1

u/New-Anybody-6206 Sep 22 '26

It's almost like people care more about having trustworthy news than the mere fact it came from a government.

Can't wait until they air their own AI-generated Triumph of the Will.

70

u/BackEndHooker Sep 21 '26

Bro it's all bots in there, stay away

69

u/Yawanoc Sep 21 '26

Bots or not, I know plenty of people irl who legitimately think like that.

45

u/Realityhereson Sep 21 '26

Those people aren't thinking lol they are waiting for their beliefs to be downloaded

6

u/Fhack Sep 21 '26

Like 73 million

That's a fuck tonne of people

1

u/Acronymesis Washington 29d ago

A metric fuck tonne, one might say.

10

u/Dena844 Sep 21 '26

Yeah I hate myself for doing it, but try to at least see how/ what the next spin is to get ahead of it before they take it elsewhere. It lets you know what excuse or talking point they are going to bring next, so it's kind of useful. I don't do it often lol

5

u/Opposite-Tiger-1121 Sep 22 '26

It's also fun to see how the spin changes from when some news first breaks to a week later.

The flip flopping they do within only a few days is pretty funny. It usually starts with some kind of "I don't like this, but..." Into "Well obviously this is part of a plan..." Within 10 days.

2

u/FellowHumanNo404 Sep 22 '26

It's also fun to see how the spin changes from when some news first breaks to a week later.

Yeah, their neck-breaking switch from "he might be onto something" to "he was obviously joking" in a matter of hours after his press conference about bleach and "bringing light inside the body" was quite a display.

8

u/crowsturnoff Sep 22 '26

Bots did not elect Trump.

You need to accept that a not-insignificant number of people think like this.

1

u/Pure-Season-4153 Sep 22 '26

On the topic of bots, the people who run that sub are also bots themselves. Maybe not in the traditional sense but I’d urge more of you to look into them and who the actual admin is connected to.

6

u/lemonylol Canada Sep 22 '26

Friendly reminder they also truly believe that Canada added last minute one sided deals to the trade talks and Trump nobly walked away. But MAGA is dying so whatever.

7

u/TrumpCheats Sep 22 '26

That sub is bots and bad actors pushing for authoritarianism. It’s why they don’t allow open comments.

3

u/Professional-Fun-838 Washington Sep 22 '26

“Why did you make us hurt you?!” - MAGA all have the mentality of wife beaters.

1

u/theghostofourprivacy Sep 22 '26

There’s more people over there that agree with you than you might suspect. You just can’t see them because the mods are working overtime to delete their comments.

1

u/Jalapenoplanter 29d ago

It doesn’t look like Trump TV posts are allowed there yet. Gotta wait for fox to tell them how to spin it first

1

u/AriaTheTransgressor 29d ago

Where are you seeing this? Because I'm not finding it in their spaces that I'm aware of.

1

u/amcartney 29d ago

They are so damn annoying. “Trumps throwing away the mid terms because of stuff like this and gas prices and the Iran war and insert the other stuff he’s completely ruined and fucked up” … do they realise they don’t HAVE to vote for him if he’s doing such a shit job? They are so so close to realising he’s shit but they’re more concerned with their team winning. He’s not throwing away the midterms, he’s completely fucking up the United States.

1

u/Erislocker 29d ago

I go on there to see and I can't tell if it's all bots. It's gotta be, I mean how delusional can one be? It's just propaganda left and right

1

u/Old_Cryptid 29d ago

That's how conservatives operate. They push, and they push, and they push, until somone snaps. Then they overreact and play the victim. "Look what *you* made me do".

Nevermind that they'd been provoking a confrontation the entire time.

-1

u/lurkANDorganize Sep 22 '26

What? Their first post at the top of the sub ia criticizing him for buffoonery.

They've got a lot of bullshit up there but um...why are you making shit up?

47

u/awh Sep 21 '26

No, Kamala Harris forced Trump to do this when she laughed funny. And was a Black woman.

8

u/FellowHumanNo404 Sep 22 '26

They have to be racist because we called out their racism.

3

u/Old_Cryptid 29d ago

Because we, the people, had the audacity to vote for a black man, twice.

They never recovered from that.

Hell, they never recovered from not being able to lynch people or use racial slurs without consequence.

1

u/FellowHumanNo404 28d ago

Hell, they never recovered from not being able to lynch people or use racial slurs without consequence.

Being shamed for racism was their personal Vietnam.

1

u/OscarTheGrouchsCan Michigan 29d ago

No, no remember shes LYING about being Black/s

Well they did actually say that

2

u/jedienginenerd Sep 21 '26

You forgot "Whattabout when Obama did the same thing!"

2

u/shibbyman342 Sep 22 '26

"they're so disrespectful and mean to him, that's one of the reasons he couldn't get through his agenda"

Literally saw this online. We're toast, boys.

This morning “Dear Leader” announced an end to all bad things… there is no worries or concerns any more!
