THIS IS FUCKING WEIRD

All this was and is all in their plan (as bumbling of a job as they are doing of it). They are fascists, so a state run media is the ultimate version of the press they are working towards. I agree, the feeling of it happening in our lifetime is fucking weird, 100%, but in the context of Trumpism, it is an expected step towards authoritarianism.

The CBS merger went through and they allowed middle eastern countries at 49% sale. Right wing billionaires own all media now. It's just going to get worse. I don't know that there is a way to unfuck this shit.

Vote dems in and hope they grow enough of their spines back to start breaking up monopolies. 🤷‍♂️

u/FemtoKitten 29d ago

And antagonise the press ? Unthinkable

u/khearan 29d ago

The way out of it is to break up the mega media corps, reinstate anti-monopoly policies, and severely persecute corruption to an extreme degree.

There's a few ways.

Not any time in the last three decades? Just now?

I suppose it may seem like that if you haven't been paying attention or are 12 years old, I guess?

The Washington Post broke Watergate, bought by Jeff Bezos. LA times, one of the best investigative journalist papers in the country, under Patrick Soon-Shiong are right wing. The Elisons ought out tiktok and now CBS, CNN, etc. NPR used to be sensible but around the time of Trump's first run for office they played the both sides story and I couldn't listen to them anymore because they could no longer just report facts they had to have a conservative viewpoint which was basically "brown people dirty and wrong!". The Economist believed in laissez-faire capitalism and aggressively opposed government food aid and blamed Irish peasants for the starvation during the great hunger and when they decided to come out against Trump it was quickly silenced. The people that thought the Irish starving to death was a good thing thought Trump might be a bit too much and it was curbed for the sake of special interest. Rupert Murdock bought out National Geographic because it was creating "climate alarmism". Same family that owns fox news.

I know the media gave Trump billions of dollars in free publicity because he would write stories for them that would stir controversy and they couldn't help themselves. Even left wing papers could get in on the grift, they'd make up fake shit just to be part of the conversation. Reddit… /r/The_Donald… allowed to organize a protest that got a woman, Heather Heyer, brutally murdered and still weren't banned. A left wing sub can get banned now for make Charlie Kirk jokes. New York Times my father insists isn't a right wing rag is constantly attacking anything left of fascism under pressure. Now we have universities following suite.

Honey lamb, I've been paying attention for more that 12 year and yes there was a time when you could get unbiased reporting. Twitter banned nazis, and just horrible people who want to foment a race war then it was bought by Elon Musk, a far right South African Nazi. Who the fuck are you? Let me guess…

Fascinating argumentative strategy to insist this after typing out a bunch of barely related drivel that disproves that point.

So you submit because you can't point a single flaw in anything. I accept your surrender.

The thing is, the administration is full of bumbling nincompoops. So this whole thing will go up in smoke once the initial grift wears off.

Their incompetence has been their one saving grace for a decade now. I worry that it can only last so long. The previous reich (the one just under a century ago or so) was famously also largely full of bumbling nincompoops. Bumbling nincompoops are still dangerous at the levers of power, and this is a style of power they do understand.

So this whole thing will go up in smoke once the initial grift wears off.

What possible basis could you have for such optimism?

5

u/RogueRhombus Sep 22 '26

The first sentence of my previous comment.

So this whole thing will go up in smoke once the initial grift wears off.

Nah, the people pulling the strings will have found new puppets by then. I love how everyone still attributes all this to the dumbarses in office despite the very public list of shit their overlords want to get done...

u/OneDimensionPrinter 29d ago

Might be even stupider than that. How do you get a bajillion subscribers for monthly fees and ads? Make it the only option for as long as you can and then milk it for as long as you can until the judge says fuck you.

u/Lobster15s Sep 22 '26

Fascist is the word I'd use but ya.

47

u/goblueM Sep 22 '26

Facist. You meant this is fucking facist

7

u/MessiahOfMetal 29d ago

Missing a letter in the word "fascist", just to let you know.

6

u/Crazyhates 29d ago

No, it's Project 2025.

5

u/RacoonWithBenefits 29d ago

no this is exactly by the book

all other authoritarian countries do this - russia, turkey, etc.

throw out the press, call them liars

then make your own controlled media to spin the negative stories and focus on the positives.

https://protectdemocracy.org/work/the-authoritarian-playbook/

if you're busy, jump to: "Spreading disinformation"

2

u/OutlawSundown 29d ago

I bet he had a melt down because of that helicopter ribbon cutting

2

u/Representative_Yau 29d ago

Nah, it's way past that. Murican people just happen to be more spineless than an egg. Other countries throw bigger protests when they lose a football match.

1

u/Dr_A_Mephesto 29d ago

It’s right on par bro. State controlled media

1

u/Gummio 29d ago

Man.... you can't make this shit up

1

u/aguynamedv 29d ago

This is fucking Project 2025.

1

u/SomewhereAtWork 29d ago

It's wierd that America voted for this although it was all public knowledge many months before the election.

Project 2025 released a 900+ page PDF describing the whole plan in detail. We Germans read it and it was immediately clear that the plan was largely the same as the tactic Hitler used.

The Germans told you that with Trump you wil elect Americas Hitler. JD Vance told you that with Trump you wil elect Americas Hitler.
Everybody else told you that with Trump you wil elect Americas Hitler.

If you now want to deny that, please remember that Hitler took 6 years from taking power in 1933 to starting WW2 in 1939. Then it took another 4 years until 1943 for the death camps to ramp up.

Trump is still only in year 2.

1

u/azsxdcfvg 29d ago

It's about as weird as Russia and North Korea. Just some fascism.

1

u/concepts_of_a_plan9 29d ago

We're wayyy past weird at this point. This is "everyone should be panicking and organizing to remove this regime" level.

1

u/MannyMoSTL 29d ago

A Democrat who finally said shit that got under his skin and the DNC shut him down. Fuck today’s Democratic leadership.

-1

u/ranting_seagull 29d ago

China has this same thing, Xinhua News.

-1

u/jeffsaidjess 29d ago

Damn you really got em there like Kamala did.

How will people ever recover

u/nerdyconstructiongal 29d ago

We need to get back on the ‘they’re a bunch of weirdos’ again like with Tim Walz.
