generated9

https://youtu.be/Abcr1ZYVnJc

That's youtube on void linux in (4-cores) vmx in plan9 in qemu on my void linux.

I had a lot of LLM quota to consume in the last 2/3 days, so I forked 9front and "got":

  • integrated the Russ Cox's Diskless QEMU boot
  • Multicored vmx, with xAPIC/x2APIC, improved TSC and scheduling, VirGL graphics and VirtIO
  • Native accelerated 3D: a VirtIO GPU driver with a file interface, libgpu for VirGL, and TinyGL for a classic OpenGL subset. Currently targets QEMU; includes the Utah teapot and glgears demos
  • Native raylib and raygui, using rio, libdraw and /dev/audio
  • Native Neverball and Neverputt, plus Arkanoid, Asteroids and Missile Commander on raylib

If you have any question I can forward them to my LLM.

I do only accept LLM-written contributions.

More LLM Plan 9 tourism from a clueless meat proxy. No file servers written. Linux DRM ported by a parrot. Booooooorrrrinnnnggggg.

Exactly. But it's not a parrot

It's pretty much a parrot. It can't do anything on it's own. It's just tokens in, tokens out. Don't let their marketing fool you into thinking it's going to break out of its cage and kill humanity. There's trillions of dollars at stake. They'll say anything.

So you weren't talking about the stochastic parrot I guess.

By that definition "tokens in, tokens out", we all are parrots then

The "its all determinism" bit is such a philosophy 101 take. You could make a serious debate on free will verses determinism, but using current LLM's as an example wouldn't work. They don't produce the seemingly spontaneous actions that leads to people debating free will.

But even the spontaneous ideas of the human in the loop on this one aren't really that great. 3D graphics that only work on some other abstraction layer. A port of a game. If I wanted to play games in emulation, I could just run a game console emulator.

Why not Atheros wifi drivers? Or improving the performance of the wifi system in general? Why not add 3D acceleration to the existing Intel graphics drivers?

The "I am also a parrot" take is rather telling. You come here with code that is based on some one else's work, and you can't even explain how it works. We use to call these type of people "script kiddies", and generally recognized that they aren't worth listening to.

Like isn't all of 9front code based on the original plan9 code. Or does it diverge consistently in terms of style and ideas?

I just can't understand how it's possible to deny LLM's usefulness nowadays. But that's revealing to be a lost cause.

That code I produced was done in a hurry and for fun, but one, e.g., could reiterate on a much smaller code span per time and work on quality and abstractions and so on, if one just has some ideas ofc. Just saying.

P.s.: I like your videos.

P.p.s.: I don't care about the definition of parrots, I do use a tool

I don't understand what the first part has to do anything, but 9front has plenty of original ideas not present in Lab's Plan 9.

Even if we agree that LLMs are useful, which I don't personally agree with, they're objectively unsustainable, environmentally destructive, harmful to society as a whole, and used for oppressive purposes. LLMs could write beautiful and functional code, I would still consider it a moral and ethical failing of everyone who engages with it.

Maybe your engagement of hurried fun could be used in a more productive or constructive pastime, instead of a destructive one

Oh sweet sweet meat puppet child. I certainly am talking about LLMs and indeed calling them stochastic parrots. If you believe we're parrots then I pity you. Humans have so much more input, side channels and context than these parlor tricks can ever hope to achieve. It's a big money grab by a bunch of lying jesters dancing in front of each other.

This could be factually correct and still pretty stupid per Louis C.K.'s "chair in the sky" bit.

To an extent humans are parrots, I mean, DNA itself is sort of a parrot. LLMs are extremely one dimensional. I don't believe the mind can be simplified to a glorified autocorrect algorithm. I think you can compare most life, it not all life, to being parrots in one way or another, but LLMs are inherently incapable of intentionally, grounding in the world, and recursive self-modification (i.e. learning). Presenting humans, or life in general, in the same light of, "stochastic parrot" , as LLMs are presented, is disingenuous, and insinuates many facets of life, evolution, and the mind, are irrelevant to the process of learning, understanding, creating, and thinking

So we just have more tokens in input? Doesn't seem a big issue.

Btw, how many moral lessons I'm getting from you in few hours, wow. And how many assumptions your wise brain got from me, incredible.

I don't think it's going to "break out its cage"; I don't care about marketing in general; you didn't catch the provocation of the post. You just resulted arrogant.

I just use LLMs and they actually work pretty well for a variety of tasks, from bugs discovery, to not nice but actually working code, and so on. Denying it is foolish. Maybe that doesn't fit the plan9 style, ok.

Today I can provide decent sw to my clients, which are small businesses, who actually never had access to it due to cost. That's all.

Make Love

Are you just here to try and make people mad?

Not intentionally

2

u/Glittering_Gur5701 4d ago

It really seems like it's intentional

How much of that code do you understand and can maintain?

-7

u/Lallero317 7d ago

Codex said all of it.

I would barely understand 30% if I should ever read it. I would delegate llms for maintainance, ofc.

I just decided stack, style and steps at coarse grain.

The repo is for fun. Currently I have no use in mind other than personal fun

Congrats. You and your AI friends trolled so hard that this place is even more dead than it was a year ago.

This is exactly the kind of hericy the plan9 community needs. Thank you for your contribution.
