Discussion Nearly 6 years after Release, Cyberpunk 2077 is the top (current player count) Single Player Only Game on Steam
Steam charts: https://steamcharts.com/app/1091500
Every other game above it is multiplayer.
It appears they'll keep adding content after each season of the Anime Series.

Obviously "just make games as good as 2077 and BG3" isn't easy, but the staying power of those two has always impressed me, and I think should be a guiding light for other RPG developers.

2077 got a LOT of help from the Netflix Anime boosting it after such a fumbled launch. It's two biggest bumps in players was when the Anime came out and when the DLC tied to the anime came out https://steamcharts.com/app/1091500#All

Edgerunners (which was co-produced and written by CDPR btw) gets too much credit for the comeback imo.
It definitely helped, but the most significant bump clearly happened when Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 update dropped. It has been very popular ever since, thanks to continuous additions and sales regardless of the anime.
For example, Cyberpunk was on an all-time low in July and reached over 70k concurrent players during the week, but everyone attributed it to the Edgerunners 2 trailer, which dropped a few days later on the weekend when it barely moved the needle.
Cyberpunk is just a game a lot of people enjoy. It sold 5 million copies every year since its release. Anime or not.

It’s because the game was always good, but it was just marred by its launch performance.

It wasn't just the game performance and bugs. They also underdelivered on promises at launch. This thread from 6 years ago covers a lot of the empty promises.
edit: since link are banned for some reason, fill in the rest.

the fact that you got downvoted lmao but youre absolut right i love the game but they did underdeliver thats just a fact

It's like the people defending it now must have not been around at launch or saw the decade of hype built up before the crash. It's probably one of the biggest under deliveries in comparison to the hype that gaming had seen at the time. Cyberpunk was the first game Sony let players fully refund it no matter how much time they had played because the launch was that bad. ProjektRed just luckily had enough time to turn the game around and also had an Anime to make it cool again. But even today it's still not perfect like how cops spawn behind you.

Have you considered whining that nobody should expect games to be as good as bg3?

Can't fuck a bear in any other game. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Just wait until we get a super troopers game

Bg3 does it by the amount of choices making player agency feel near infinite. Cyberpunk does it by creating one of the most lifelike cities I've ever played in a game. Just driving or walking around night city is a treat every time.

I was one of those people that was super hyped for 2077, and was very disappointed on launch - even with a 3090 at the time. I played till "meet hanako at embers" but left a lot of the side content undone. I picked up my old save recently and am blown away how much better the game is now. Its incredible.

I'm pretty damn lucky I played the whole game at launch and the only bug I got was some people smoking phantom ciggeretes lol
I didn't check social media for like a week or two and was shocked to see it had such a shitty launch, man I got lucky

Yea I played at launch and it was by far the best game I had ever played. I thought I had some mental issue when I looked at what everyone else was saying about it.

Ever since then I basically don't use social media untill I finish the game, because people complaining spoil things for me and they also might have some valid points that ruin the game for me because were I not to see the comment I wouldn't have noticed it ingame
I thoroughly enjoyed starfeild, was completely flabbergasted people hated it.
Since then I have never played a bad game, it seems for me seeing other people's comments about a game and there reaction seems to negatively effect my experience with a game!

In a similar position, performance was not always 60fps but the game just hooked me. Definitely buggy but nothing game breaking, other than visual glitch of my V hanging dong through pants. Ruined my immersion.

I'm unsure if over about half of valheims players are playing singleplayer.
It amuses me that project zomboid and cyberpunk are trading places.

Wouldn't surprise me. Singleplayer and small group co-op are the most played modes almost every survival game.

I didnt expect the amount of negativity that Cyberpunk 2077 has on this thread, ig it mostly depends on expectations and oh boi I like those 200 hours I put on the game, I went into the final mission with the option u get when waiting in an specific part and it was the best climax I had in a game in years.
Probably would describe the game as a city like GTA (it is better designed then most game cities imo) meets an improved hacking like watch_dogs mechanics meets borderlands-like shooting (for the most part but it doesnt reach that diversity of weapons) and it has a decent to great story depending in ur taste (I found it pretty good for the most part)

AMD driver update giving FSR 4.1 to RX6000 series cards. A new game update scheduled today with new items, missions, and duel wielding pistols. The new season of Edgerunners..
I think i also saw something about DLSS now being available to AMD cards finally through mods? Lots of people who couldnt run the game very well before, now can. Plus the game feels like it might be in its final state, with new additions possibly being done and CDPR moving on to the final stages of Witcher 4.

There's just no other game like it, nothing hits the same. The world they crafted, especially the city itself is just phenomenal. I love the lingo, the visual style, the narrative, the gameplay, the setting etc.
And I love the fact that they keep adding things even though they always claim they're done lol

It’s a great game, really fun and very replayable. I’ve gone through it a few times and still have fun with it.

Excited for my 80th playthrough once modders get things up and going again after the update.

I don’t find it to be anything special. KCD2 is much closer to what I thought Cyberpunk was going to be (immersive sim RPG).

I won't ever believe that Blade Runner vibes and Nvidia tech demos haven't carried CP2077. It's a tepid turd of a game.

It's a good come-back story and most games having a shaky launch don't have this outcome. Its a testament to the dedication of the developers to support this world, fleshing out lore deptch and adding content, fixing bugs.
No mans sky is probably the best example of this. The landscape is littered with corpses of games with promise thst never delivered and were utterly abandoned.

I don't know how so many people can be wrong, but it does happen from time to time.

I played this on release and I don’t have any major bugs, it was still ridiculously disappointing and mid. The idea that a ridiculously hyped game that was the “next generation” in gaming didn’t have a “bail from moving vehicle” animation on release was insane and honestly kind of offensive. I refuse to play it. I have like 20h and I couldn’t tell you anything other than Keanus character is super obnoxious

Everything about it, except for the cityscape, is just phoned in. Even that's detracted from by constant and very obvious pop in.

Edgerunner's 2 just dropped, and a new game update.
