I mean, yeah. But if this in response to Bioware, I disagree. They gave them many chances, and they are not the same studio as they were a decade ago

BioWare’s death was completely due to their leadership. They just stopped shipping good games and instead invested in the wrong projects. Sad to see it happen :(

Bioware deserved to be shutdown.

The Mass effect IP should have been given to someone else. They have a mass effect TV series coming out damn it.

I'm hoping Exodus next year hits that Mass Effect itch.

Bro predicted the future right before EA pulled the plug. Are you an EA executive’s burner account by any chance?

Yup three straight disasters. ME:A, Anthem, DA : Veilguard

And the funny thing is, the developers of Dragon Age: Veilguard were given complete creative freedom. If that’s the limit of their creativity, then it’s just as well I won't see the release of the new Mass Effect.

Pretty sure it was Anthem that went off the rails with "creative freedom". Veilguard suffered immensely from live service whiplash.

Microsoft kind of went on a studio spree killing, after embarking on that equally insane buyout spree. EA meanwhile are more of a serial studio killer. They were at it since way back when. Two decades at least.

I think in recent years they had the common courtesy to pretend the studio was alive, but plenty of them are dead in all but name already.

EA don't give a fuck, there's always money in the sport franchise loot boxes.

Bioware were given three chances and on both occasions they had substantial budgets and a fair amount of creative freedom. The people running EA aren’t idiots, they don’t shut down studios like Xbox or Sony do. They had to close Bioware because it had been making nothing but only losses for nearly 10 years. Any director would have got rid of such a liability.

Are we talking about the recent closure of BioWare? I'm sorry but in this particular case I'm on EA's side.

You can blame corporate meddling all you want, but if the corpos really wanted BioWare closed down do you really think they would've allowed them to lose money and pump out flop after flop straight for a decade?

If all Bioware had left was its reputation from two decades ago, then they were a husk waiting for the end anyway. The real loss here is the IPs that died along with it. They are likely gone forever, and there is a certain sadness that comes with such a loss.

the problem is that the devs who built the studio reputation was no longer there when they took over.

Bioware was basically dead 10 years ago. If they weren't under EA, they probably would have gone bankrupt after Anthem as anyway.

EA, in its developer aquisitions, has for a longtime felt similar to a private equity firm that buys a company, guts the staff and budgets, and just sells crap at a higher profit margin, riding on the company's reputation until it can't anymore and then closes it down.

Sucked up and then spat away like that

Microsoft didn't close any of the studios they split, the real Bioware died a long time ago and deserved that shutdown

Bioware had it coming really

u/QuinSanguine 5m ago

And having enough dead IPs to launch a zombie apocalypse with.

Madara and Hashirama created a village, but these two only create graveyard shifts for talented developers.

Nah fuck those studios. They had unlimited budget, unheard of creative freedoms and they still couldn't make game that people want to play. Rip bozo. Do better next time.

I thoght I read somewhere that rather than closing the studios, they were now under different management than Microsoft. Or did the article I read was just Microsoft corpo speak. Can someone confirm if they read the same thing

Edit: Aparently, the moved just a couple of studios and have closed much more of them.

Capitalism. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

3

u/Choubidouu 51m ago

This is the most deserved shutdown ever, this has nothing to do with capitalism.

1

u/Mantergeistmann 16m ago

I mean, insofar as capitalism is people choosing how to spend their money...

-1

u/FireDragon21976 38m ago

It has everything to do with capitalism. The inertia of capitalist systems is towards a few players becoming monopolies over the entire market.

3

u/Sir_Potato2000 31m ago

Under communism, you’d be playing the Party’s ideological low quality games, promoting patriotism of civic duty and including censorship

1

u/FireDragon21976 23m ago

Which has exactly nothing to do with the point I was making: most people here are actively participating in a system that encourages monopoly behavior, and shouldn't act surprised when monopolies decide to cut off loose ends.
