Well, thankfully we've got Exodus coming out in 2027, which will be a true alternative to the Mass Effect series (with former Mass Effect employees working on it)

There's also The Expanse: Osiris Reborn which is trying really really hard to be Mass Effect

Don’t be hating on Owlcat.

They are one of the last crpg studios out there.

Hating? I have no problem with them. Their marketing is just really obviously trying to cater to a specific audience

F'n love Owlcat. Unpopular opinion even among Owlcat fans, but I think Pathfinder: Kingmaker is one of the best RPGs of all time, just behind BG2 and BG3.

It makes running a kingdom look exactly like it does in real life...

You'd much rather be adventuring, but instead you're sitting in a room with the same people all day trying to evaluate the impact of ferry tax policy on grain shipments and labour costs, and whatever you choose will probably be the wrong decision anyway in the long run.

Was thinking of Metro:Exodus and wondering what the connection was.

On the one hand, I'm excited. Definitely has that Mass Effect feeling/vibe to it.

On the other, having read the book (Archimedes Engine), I don't know if I want to deal with hard sci-fi time dilation shenanigans. It's hard to write those well.

As much as people hate star citizen, squadron 42 might fill that niche if / when it comes out
