Financially it has made more sense for me to preorder games when:
1- They are games I am going to play regardless of reviews because they are something I want to experience myself no matter what.
And then either a or b is correct:
A- financially the preorder window is a good time for me. I’d rather have the money spent and have the ability to play it when it launches. As opposed to something like having to wait for a paycheque if the actual release is poorly timed.
B- there are rewards for pre-ordering and since I will play the game at launch anyways, I may as well have an extra outfit or two.

are you unable to just put away that money until you need it on release?
I am but from an accounting standpoint it’s easier to spend the money than mentally subtract it from my savings every time. Especially if it’s far out and I want to use something like birthday money to treat myself.
I also sometimes lose track of small things. I may accidentally spend money for a game on dinner out. If I have money in my savings account, remembering that $60 for like 8 months is a tedious thing for something fun. Pre-ordering makes it easier to allocate.

There's no difference between pre-ordering and waiting for launch day when you know you're going to buy it lmao.
