No the ape doesn't have a good point because no one is pre-ordering digital games 'as if they're gonna run out'. That's not a thing that exists in the real world. They get pre-ordered because of incentives like early access, in-game items and cosmetics, in-game titles, etc.. You pre-order in exchange for things in the game that you won't get if you don't pre-order. I am not defending this practice, I am only explaining the truth.
I don't typically pre-order games - but I've been waiting over a decade for this game, in no world am I not buying it. So I might as well pre-order it now, get it out of the way, and get some extras.
The fact that you already know you're going to buy it before seeing release information is the issue here, you aren't making a decision with all of the information
You can always get a full refund. If the reviews, gameplay, or streams at launch change your mind about wanting to play it you just get all of your money back.
Well i don't need any more information than previews to know that i want to play it. If that's ur thing, by all means wait it up. In my head, if people say it's good post-release I'm gonna buy it; If people say it's bad post-release, i'm gonna buy it to see if I agree.
There are already gameplay videos out on youtube or wherever before most people pre-order anything. That's easily enough info to know if you're going to enjoy a game or not.
