Discussion I Can't Believe the Amazon Postie Left It Like This

Post image

I ordered a 9060 XT 16GB off Temu, and it was shipped to me by Amazon Shipping the next day. I worked at my restaurant daily, so I ordered it at the place. I usually don't use my phone during my shift, but luckily, I was calculating my customers' bill for them using my phone, and noticed the "Delivered" message from two minutes ago. Usually at day, the Amazon guys would just open the door, walk all the way inside, or at least place the item on the nearest table. Any person could've grabbed it if I hadn't accidentally checked my phone.

Edit: I updated about the card with an unboxing video in another post in this sub.

You ordered a graphics card off of TEMU?!

u/kdlt 9h ago

I'm more confused why Amazon delivered for temu?

226

u/PassengerArtistic719 9h ago

Apparently, I think Amazon is doing a shipping business for other companies/individuals too.

88

u/Guac_in_my_rarri 9850x3d | 4090 8h ago

It was most likely drop shipped from Amazon.

A seller can pay a fee for Amazon to warehouse their products. They will list it on their Amazon store, eBay, temu and others. When an order is placed on anything but Amazon, the seller fills out some paperwork requesting the product (idr if there is a fee) as a drop ship and off it goes.

20

u/mtndew2756 8h ago

While this exists, in certain countries, like the UK, Amazon is also a shipping business for other vendors. Currently Temu is not a third party Amazon seller so in this case it really was Amazon acting as the shipping company only. And apparently doing a poor job of it by leaving a gpu out like that.

8

u/Shadowrak 8h ago

Just because Temu isnt on a list doesnt mean they arent hiding drop shipping under a thousand shell companies in Amazon.

How much did you pay?

14

u/PassengerArtistic719 9h ago

£446 before coupon. I mean, eBay was around 480-500, so I don't think it was an absurd deal or anything. Also, seller history.

Amazon also acts as a courrier service

9

u/AdaAstra 9h ago

Amazon has a whole global shipping infrastructure, so they will offer that for a fee, same as any shipping company. In some more remote areas, Amazon has taken over areas as the primary shipping partner. It is also pretty common for shipping companies to have their competitor do some of their shipping depending on location, timing, and volume of packages any given day.

I don't know how it is in other places. I am in London, and the seller seemed to be a reliable local one selling electronics stuffs. Their PowerColor cards were brand new.

You are in PCMR and you probably are aware that Temu is a meme to the point that some call offbrands/cheap knockoff as "TEMU something" (Temu Mickey Mouse).

216

u/PastRiver8899 8h ago

Temu & aliexpress are pretty good for deals on CPUs & GPUs actually, just read into it a bit so you know where to look.

What you said goes for any major commerce platform though, someone will always sell ”junk”

52

u/Jannover_5000_r NixOs 7h ago

Generally its good for electronics, you just need to think for a second. A brand new graphics card for 100 bucks? No way thats real but one for (idk the current prices) 3000 thata definetly real.

You can also get good solder equipment or generel hardware as in resistors and capacitors and so on for a few bucks less than any major electronics seller nearby since you just order from the factory instead of some reseller might not be a name brand than but possibly the same factory if you dont go for extremly cheap deals.

I ordered one thing off AliExpress and ended up having to do a chargeback because the dropshipper ordered it as a "gift," so I had to provide a code for the delivery person to release it to me. But the 12-hour delay meant they kept giving me the code for the prior day.

Fucking obnoxious. Never using that scam site again.

Amazon shipped my GPU with no box as well. Just set on my doorstep with a shipping label. Unsurprisingly it wasnt there when I got home with a park full of kids across the street.

Ended up buying the replacement from newegg who shipped it in an actual box.

3

u/Mr__Pleasant MSI RTX 3080 | AyyMD 9800X3D | 32GB RAM | WootHelp 5h ago

This is because Amazon have an option to not ship with a box to save waste, most likely the seller had stock in Amazon wearehoshes and just chose that option.

Worst case they bought the card using stolen details and just forwarded.

I imagine the UK has very different laws about how Temu can operate and sell things. The local seller is a big one, as it would be bold to pull a scam in the country you reside in, leaving you liable to legal issues.

Tech influencer channels are full of "I got a 5090 founders edition for $500 on temu!!11!!11!!!"

But what they do is order like ten of them and only one isn't a scam (but does have some weird issue related to being from the Chinese domestic market or whatever).

9

u/talldata 8h ago

Or "doesn't have issue" because it says in GPU Z that it's a 5090, except it's a bios swapped 980, and some even with fake dye etchings.

Ordering an AMD card on Temu that gets shipped via Amazon into a random diner foyer is peak 2026 supply chain chaos. That box has seen more continents than most people.

101

u/_scotswolfie 10h ago

It won’t get any better with so many retailers embracing the marketplace approach nowadays, where a brand that used to sell their own products only, and handle all logistics, lets other sellers onto their site without even handling their stock. And this applies to everything, not just tech. Not to mention the potential disputes - sites like Amazon and eBay have relatively strong buyer protections, since they can swallow the cost and go after a scammy seller later. With small sites you might be on your own, if you didn’t notice that one of the products in your basket was not from the company you actually ordered from.

25

u/AL-SHEDFI 13900KF/RTX 4090/DDR5 8000Mhz/Z790 APEX 10h ago

The problem isn’t third party sellers it’s platforms outsourcing logistics without taking responsibility. If you profit from the marketplace, you own the mess when it goes wrong. You can outsource the shipping, not the blame.

The fact that Amazon slapped the shipping label directly on a £450 retail box isn't just Temu being cheap, it's Amazon's "Ships In Its Own Container" (SIOC) program. They do it to save on cardboard, but a high-value GPU should never qualify for that. The fact that it survived the sorting hub without getting crushed or "falling off a truck" is a bigger miracle than it surviving your restaurant's foyer.

For the folks wondering why Amazon delivered a Temu order: Temu sellers use Amazon's Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) to ship from local UK warehouses. It's literally just Amazon getting paid to be the courier.

Next time, definitely use an Amazon locker. But honestly, congrats on the 9060 XT. You basically played PC building on hardcore mode and won. Run GPU-Z just to make sure the VBIOS isn't spoofed, and maybe buy a lottery ticket this weekend.

261

u/PassengerArtistic719 10h ago

The seller is a UK local warehouse with good history and a lot of verified purchase, but yes, I understand why this would stir some conversations. Apparently, they are now only selling PowerColor cards, with quite good prices. Mine was genuine, brand new and ran without any problem.

226

u/Parking-Antelope-434 10h ago

Only ignorant people don’t know that Temu is a platform just like eBay and many others, rating and good history is far more important, glad you found a good deal.

50

u/TooTiredAndBored 10h ago

I dont think the issue is with people not knowing it's a seller platform. I think the issue is people also knowing it's fucking temu, not a respected long standing seller platform.

Do you have the exact same trust in buying a product from a seller with the same rating on temu vs ebay?

I don't.

Honestly, I'd worry less about the driver who dropped it off and more about the folks who shipped the box like this and didn't put it in a typical brown box.

9

u/LLREnew 9h ago

Amazon didn’t pack it. They just last mile’d it. I work for Amazon. This would never go out of our fulfillment center like this. Don’t buy expensive shit off Temu and send it to your place of work.

3

u/la_reptilesss 8h ago

In 2022 a $900 GPU purchased from Amazon was shipped with a label slapped on the box and dropped on my front porch. I tried to pull up the delivery image but it isnt there anymore. I can assure you Amazon 100% just slaps labels on the manufacturer boxes sometimes.

3

u/LLREnew 8h ago

It’s called Shipped In Its Own Container. If that happened it was a mistake. We don’t ship high dollar items in their own container. A bundle of paper towels? Sure. They can go out in the Charmin box. A $900 graphics card? absolutely not. Someone messed up. I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but it wasn’t supposed to.

I've always wondered if the USA (although I heard this happen in the UK too) is/are the only developed country where deliveries are just left outside on the street and on porches. In the vast majority of the world that I know, it will be given to someone at the address, or it would be dropped at some safe place for you to pick up later, or just they won't deliver it and return another day to try again.

31

u/Egoy PC Master Race 10h ago

Happens all the time here in Canada. The only time anybody has ever touched my package was when my neighbor saw it getting rained on and put it inside for me. She can do this because my door is rarely locked.

I snowblow her driveway in the winter when I do mine and I move her car in the process I can do this because she leaves her keys in the ignition.

We live in a very small population rural area. It’s kinda nice to trust folks though.

11

u/Enterovirus71 10h ago

Sounds kind of nice tbh. I would still be very fearful because I come from a bit city.

4

u/Egoy PC Master Race 10h ago

Yeah when I lived in town or the city (my province really only has one city so we call it the city) I locked my shit up. Out here only if I’m going on vacation.

I also have a loud dog who thinks deep bass barking and howling is a good way to say hello, a stranger would probably not risk opening the door with her on the other side. She just wants belly rubs but she sounds like she’s gonna kill someone.

5

u/pattperin 9h ago

Man in my rural area lately we’ve had things disappearing from people’s yards. I live about 10 mins from a town of 8000 and it used to be just as you described. Now I gotta lock my fucking doors. Bullshit man. I’m hoping they catch this group and everybody can calm down again

4

u/Egoy PC Master Race 9h ago

Yeah man for real that’s a big part of the appeal to living in the country.

5

Happens in UK all the time, even when I'm home they just leave it outside.

It's like they've all collectively developed severe anxiety and can't speak to people anymore, terrified to ring a door bell. Literally knock, drop the parcel and run.

It's weird and annoying, only started happening since COVID.

13

u/Pure_Bee2281 8h ago

Yeah, this is a time saving thing. Corporations realized the shipper isn't paying for a good experience for the receiver of the package and speed saves money.

7

u/Rosenthal6969 8h ago

I guess they have a truck full of stuff to deliver and can’t wait for people to get the door or get out of the shower or dress themselves to open the door

5

u/CosmosStalker 8h ago

It’s this^ drivers are crunched to the max and often have over 200 stops a day. There’s no time to wait for everyone to come to the door. Or even call a customer

5

u/LHR-Daniels 7h ago

And to triple down... not only is it this, they've 100% done the math on the cost of lost and stolen packages vs. the cost of time lost by drivers waiting at the door.

71

u/blacksf1 9h ago

People outside America don't realize just how far a post office or pickup spot can be from their home. You go to the mid west and it can be an hour plus by car. I'm about 25 minutes from the nearest pickup option.

You can also have the package sent to your work, i do this usually if im expacting work shipments anyway.

You can request it be delivered to someone. However for many that would mean never getting your package as people aren't home enough to receieve them.

I'd pretty much never be able to get packages through mail if this were the case.

25

u/Dergenbert 10h ago

You can request a signature and they will send a ninja to leave a "sorry we missed you" tag on your door with instructions on how to pickup your package (even though you were home).

8

u/m477z0r 10h ago

I see you've met my local UPS driver.

3

u/Seeteuf3l 9h ago

Oh yeah the UPS special

6

u/Unkn0wnTh2nd3r 10h ago

because they never come to the door, they just leave the tag in the mailbox and don't even attempt to come to the front door.

I once was at home for a delivery, I watched the delivery guy pull up to my mailbox, i made eye contact with the fucker, he still put the slip inside, he drove off, i walked down to the mail box, took out the slip, walked to the other side of the street (live on a culdesack, he drives up, my house is one of the first houses, he drives up into the actual sack part of the culdesack, and drives down the other side), flag him down with the paper and get my package from him.

I hate how delivery drivers are forced to do things in a "timely manor" so they just do this, like can we be more lenient with drivers so they don't have to waste people's time like this or have to piss in bottles because if they take a bathroom break they get fined or deductions?

→ More replies (5)

10

u/KrazyKryminal 10h ago

When delivering to businesses, we take them inside. For residential, we leave on the porch and (many of us do) try to hide out of sight. I've seen so many just leave it out in the open, or heavy shit right in front of doors that open outward. Amazon NEEDS to hire anyone and at this point, you're scraping the bottom of the barrel. Can you drive? Good, you're hired. I left years ago and i still see poor practices even with my own packages.

Also, "lost" or "delayed" packages.....CAN be due to theft by driver. Here is how. You get to hub to load your truck. You scan every tote and every large package. Sometimes you have large packages that aren't on your itinerary. Sometimes at the end of the day you'll have a few packages that were in totes but also weren't in your itinerary. Now you're supposed to bring them back to the hub and turn them in... But of course if the box shows what's inside and the driver wants it they can take it. And since it was never scanned to your truck, nobody knows where the package was. I overheard many drivers in my time talking about what they picked up that day because it wasn't on their route.

Here in Canada, unless the package is delivered by Canada Post (and you have a community mailbox) most packages will be left at your door, only time they will hand it to someone is if it requires a signature and even then, they don’t always follow the rules and just leave it there.

Had two phones delivered, marked it as needing a signature to be delivered, mailman decided to just sign for the package himself and left it at the door… was pissed

It happens sometimes here in the UK, though legally a package is not delivered unless it's handed to you/through the letterbox. If the courier leaves it on the doorstep and it's stolen then the supplier will recoup the cost from them.

It never used to be as bad but the likes of Amazon expect more and more packages to be delivered in less time and many drivers already didn't exactly give a shit.

3

u/Majestic_Ad_320 8h ago

Really depends where you live. In my current city it'd probably last a few days there. In a rural town, it would sit there for YEARS.

im from mexico deliveries here won't be left outside unless you specifically tell the delivery guy to do it, if the purchase is something expensive the delivery guy has strict instructions not to leave it even if you tell him to

to receive that expensive product you gotta show your ID and sign a paper that says you actually received it

7

u/why_1337 RTX 4090 | Ryzen 9 7950x | 64gb 9h ago

They often even require some sort of identification like PIN you receive via email or sms... Cant be that hard to implement the same in the greatest country in the world.

u/Parking-Antelope-434 10h ago

In Mexico you are required to sign, but here in the USA most is left outside despite of many thefts, I believe that most on the US respect the package that belongs to someone and will not touch it, in Mexico they would steal it without hesitation :(.

u/Shamscam PC Master Race 9h ago

In Canada they just leave in on your front porch. I am surprised porch pirates aren’t more of a thing here.

3

u/Twowie 9h ago

No it happens here in Norway too, depending on the delivery company. I've had expensive packages just sat outside my door or an edge stuffed into my mail slot. Most of the time they go to a local pickup point like a post office or a package locker though.

11

u/Pershing99 10h ago

The answer is most Americans are working too many god damn hours and/or commuting to work for them to be able to receive package in person....

7

u/Desperate_Security89 10h ago

Don't forget that even when signatures are required the drivers just like to leave their own as well most of the time.

That’s how they can afford GPUs

4

u/superurgentcatbox 10h ago

People in Germany work fulltime too. Unless you have given them permission to drop stuff in front of your door (at which point porch pirates are your problem), they need someone to sign for your delivery. Like a neighbor. If they can't find anyone, they take it to a drop off point where you have to go pick it up (and sign for it, if it's a post office rather than one of those machines).

4

u/Spotttty 10h ago

I don’t know how it is in Germany but in Canada they won’t look for anyone. If you are lucky they will ring the doorbell but that’s rare. Usually they run up with a sticker saying the missed you, without the package, so you have to go pick it up. I hate FedEx…

Since when does Amazon deliver for Temu

22

u/MothChasingFlame 8h ago

Amazon has an entire order fulfillment service branch. They're also how an enormous portion of ecommerce does online services. (Which is why boycotting Amazon is so hard, by the way. You don't have to be shopping at Amazon to be shopping through Amazon.)

6

u/Braindead_Crow 8h ago

Probably why trump has been attacking the postal service so hard in a bid to give it to private sectors. Wasn't expecting amazon to be the choice

3

u/TheRealSmolt Linux 8h ago

Amazon just does regular business shipping too.

The fact that an expensive card is shipped in its original package, without an exterior cardboard box, is wild and negligent to me.

This happened to me when I bought an Asus Prime B550 motherboard from Amazon last year. One of the corners of the box were slightly dented from apparent shipping impact. Luckily, the motherboard seems to be fine and in proper working condition.

9

u/Any_Reference_3373 5h ago

Bro if you ordered this on temu its probably just Styrofoam.

9

u/EviscerationPrime 10h ago

I mean my question is, did you even get a legit graphics card?

8

u/PassengerArtistic719 10h ago

Yes, it ran well. Was replacing my 3080 with it. I don't game AAA titles much anymore.

5

u/EviscerationPrime 9h ago

Well that’s good to hear, all I read was Temu and was like ooooof

7

u/rednaxelo 9h ago

download GPU-Z and check if it’s real. they could have used an older gpu and just reflashed it to be shown as whatever model.

it will run, even if fake. so just testing it without demanding software or gpu-z is risky.

also, don’t order on temu, if you don’t want having to fakecheck everything you buy and potentially be scammed.

I always assumed that buying a video card from Temu/AliExpress was a terrible idea.

14

u/SmokeySFW 9h ago

I can't believe Amazon doesn't have these inside a box.

10

u/2Eyed 9h ago

OP says it was ordered from Temu, so IDK if that changes it, but Amazon has really been sneaky about trying to ship almost everything it can without a box, to the point where you have to really pay attention at checkout.

The company can't stop enshitifying everything.

4

u/Masonzero 5700X3D + RTX 4070 + 32GB RAM 9h ago

That's not enshitification, so long as you can actually choose box or no box. There are plenty of items I would rather ship with less packaging, otherwise that's just a waste of cardboard.

Ever since the pandemic, the amazon delivery drivers don't hit the doorbell when delivering.

The delivery person at least recognized the value and issue. They put in a place as perfect as possible. Close to the outside door and on the hinge side. I bet there is a window in the outside door as well. With all the crap the corps are throwing at us at least noice the care the individual showed. :) my guess is this place was not open when delivering.

I live in the more rough area of my town (apparently) and it's something that happens all the time here. Never had anything stolen because of it, though, which I'm glad to say. Heck, back in the 90s I lived in a very small village and we didn't even lock the doors, it was that quiet! This is in Wales, UK though, and it's generally quiet in this part of the world, at least in my experience. :D

I bought a 3D printer and it was left outside my front door while I was shopping.

2

u/Galeic6432 10h ago

There is reasons why I use the amazon counter or locker instead. It's just a much more secure way of delivering packages. Especially even when you get amazon through the regular post office, it tends to get to my front door instead of my locked delivery box!

2

u/Designer_Vex 7900xtx + 7900x3d 10h ago

my 7900x3d got delivered to a neighboring house up the street, literal full sprinted in my boxers to their door, willing to combat anyone getting in between me and my chip

2

u/Yololio69 9h ago

People are absurdly narrow minded. Not every place in the world manages packages the same way. I got my 3070 and 9070 from Amazon without their packaging.

In EU we might not get it wrapped in a box like in the US, and in this case, we are not used to our packages being left at the door for someone to steal. Nor are they usually treated like shit or stolen during delivery. So you might get an order like this and no one cares.

Leaving it at the door of a restaurant is trashy as fuck tho. It takes 30 seconds to leave it with the barman.

2

u/Zefiris8 9h ago

Signature is a bit random in the US. Ive ordered small things like fountain pens that had to have a signature. Ive also gotten an order for 12 wheels for my track car, and they just stacked them all on my porch while I was at work...

And more relevant to this sub, I got that initial email from Nvidia for the 5090 on release. I was at work and got a notification that it was delivered and signed for. Was a bit worried since I live alone. Guess my neighbor just happened to be outside and the delivery guy just randomly had him sign for it. Only package that has happened for.

2

u/Classicgoose 9h ago

I'm surprised it wasn't wrapped properly
