Csnt demand in practice because the politicians are bought and peaceful protests are ignored. Non peaceful ones are illegal. So they solved the problem, the only way to make real change would mean risking prison for many

Tbf, they always where illegal. The difference is that peaceful ones also where, so it just was more of a "Being late is punishable by death and rebelling is also punishable by death?"-situation.

until a few decades ago the government lacked high quality cctv so they couldnt mass prosecute everyone who burned a trash bin
