GOG or/and torrent forever!

As these sorts of anti-customer practices get more and more prevalent I have been shifting as many of my purchases over to GOG as I can.

The writing is on the wall. If a game doesn't make the cut to land on GOG's store front then it is an ephemeral product.

Same. I only buy games on GOG. Plus i use torrent also. Why would i give a single … if the big tech corpos don’t care about the consumers.

torrenting is illegal

direct download it is

Torrenting itself is not illegal. You could create your own torrent of your own content and it would be perfectly legal.

torrenting copyright content is 100% illegal. Direct downloads are not (downloading)

No.. the acts themselves, unless your country has weirdly specific laws are fine, unless you torrent illegal content. Or direct download illegal content. Then it's piracy. You could torrent a linux distribution for example and that's not illegal.

You cannot possibly think all direct downloads are legal.

Don't forget Steam, once you buy it, it's there forever.

Doesn’t help you if servers are shut down

Well don't buy online-only games then.. I know it's not the solution, but it helps I guess 🥲

And how do you know it's online-only? That's right, by "buying" it. Some customers are bound to be screwed.

When you see on steam it always says: single player and online

But that has nothing to do with online-only games. Singleplayer and multiplayer games can both be online-only or not.

*For as long as Steam exists. The whole point of GOG is that it lets you download offline installers, which, as GOG's own marketing points out, can't be taken away from you.

Not really, when you die your account is gone. You can't pass it down.

You can take care of that right now..

Iirc they literally check if you're dead and lock it down

Nah, you can put it in your will and they legally have to transfer ownership. In Europe this is the law.

This is for non-Europeans

0

u/Owlanr Jun 19 '26

I hope that this doesn't work for europe too

Have you ever heard about CSGO made by valve ?

2

u/emanhw Jun 17 '26

Bad example, since CS:GO is still available to download on Steam with community-run servers.
