Id even go as far to say that pirating is never theft. The original product is never lost as the pirate only obtains a copy of it.

Unfortunately not the answer we were looking for. The correct answer is: "If buying isn't owning, the the proletariat has the right to free itself by seizing the means of production and toppling the oligarchy once and for all"
If Commies were smart enough to recognize and avoid things like The Great Leap Forward then they wouldn't be Commies. It's the politics of the stupid and the worthless who are envious of everyone who isn't.
We do have a better wealth distribution gap than we had in the past though. The elite nowadays are arguably not as powerful nowadays given the Internet (hacking or anything a single person can do) and global politics (foreign interests/terrorism threats etc).
Do not make the mistake in thinking that the current regime is the best we can possibly do or that change is pointless.
And? What we already have is terrible. It can't get much worse than the mass surveillance and brutal police states we're already living in where everything sucks and none of the socioeconomic promises we grew up hearing are even feasible for most.
The emancipation of ownership and socioeconomic security must happen whether we think we can build a truly better system or notâthe system we currently have is crushing us and soon, they'll be actively poisoning our water and air like they haven't since the 80s.
Yeah, a civil war / ballkanization are possibilities, but you mistakenly seem to think the system is static and not inexorably moving towards a choice of chaoses and sufferings. The system is going to fall and we must be ready.
In the terms of service you click to agree to every time you spend money on the steam platform, it says youâre buying a revocable license, it explicitly tells you you donât own the game. This is like saying âI never read my contract with Hertz so I thought I was buying this car, so it should be mineâ
Companies spend there time using braindead take to justify shitty decision and charge more the customer. I dont know why customers cannot use the same shitty take. Rules go both ways.
They like giving their opponents ammunition: "We can't go offline because we need to be constant online for the validation of our product to stop the pirating your honor."
They don't understand they are weakening the movement by saying this out loud.
Between voices38 and the news that some Linux distro can make Hypervisor work without needing restarts, they should REALLY try to accomodate players if they want to keep making those hundreds of millions of $ games.
Technically, âbuy this gameâ could actually become a false advertisement. You donât âbuy a gameâ you simply rent a license that can be suspended without further notifications.
Buying a game would mean having the safety of having it as long as the physical strings of the current reality allow so.
Additionally, if they cannot demand game be available after they are done being sold commercially - it should not be an issue to host support for those games in the absence of the original company.
You were never buying. You were entering into a user agreement that you refused to read, refused to abide by but did agree to.
Youâre essentially saying you feel entitled to steal their product because you were lying when you agreed to the agreements you entered into anyway.
If I pirate a game, I'm not party to that agreement. So that part just plain doesn't work on its face.
Apart from that, does the big green button when you go to pay say BUY or does it say "LICENSE FOR AN INDETERMINATE PERIOD OF TIME TO BE DECIDED LATER BASED ON FISCAL PROJECTIONS?"
I dont know why you people need to make this excuse for yourself. Piracy is wrong, doesnt mean you cant pirate. Just dont lie to yourself that pirating is actually a good thing
edit. so funny how people have no problem with pirating games and saying that big companies deserve it, and yet they have a problem when a company even mentions that they are gonna start using AI now
Good, thats how everyone should think. But average redditor has to feel morally superior, so they make up stories how what they are doing is actually good
Itâs all teenagers/very young adults doing it. Iâve been in pirating circles since the 90s and the whole egotistic grandiose holier than though freedom fighter nonsense is pretty new, because the generation of kids who grew up on social media and getting online validation are now at the age where they can make their own choices, but the behavior is permanent.
Depends, pirating a small indie studio game I can argue is wrong. Stealing from Ubisoft, Walmart, target, Ford etc. who gives a shit they should be better
It is a wrong thing to do. Someone put money and time into something, and put a price on it. And you are taking it for free, against his will. How is that not wrong lmao
Someone didnât. 4 dozen people did at best and the money disproportionately went up the ladder to societies leeches. Itâs wrong to not steal from them
Pirating ISN'T a good thing. At no point in my 4-word post did I claim that it was.
I don't want to pirate things. I want to engage in a good faith transaction so I can have the thing I want and the company gets a little bit of my money for their trouble.
But then that thing is mine. The company could burst into flames the next day and the thing would still be mine. That's the part where we start having a problem.
If your first sentence is supposed to be implying I like or play ubisoft games I'm pretty sure the last one I played was AC Black Flag over a decade ago.
It's two words, I wasn't trying to make some profound statement.
Ubisoft is a shit company, they do not deserve success simply because of how they view the game industry and the people who keep them in business so if people want to pirate their games who gives a shit.
Fuck Ubisoft, the industry would be better off if they went under along with the majority of other AAA developers.
You can like a product but dislike the company who makes the product enough to not want to support them monetarily, it's really not that difficult to understand.
The âif buying isnât owningâŚâ argument is both played out and stupid. Lots of things that you buy and own donât last forever or require repair after use. We accept this fact almost everywhere else in our lives but not when it comes to video game or other digital media, for some reason? I call hypocrisy.
no, they just stop getting updates that subsequently causes compatibility problems with the OS or the drivers. they don't degrade, they just stop getting support. Even then, if you just don't update anything in your computer you can pretty much still use the product
As do I. I also have disks from 10 years ago that donât work anymore due to various issues. Your individual anecdote isnât a rebuttal to a worldwide experience.
That's not the same with a single player platformer. Rayman will never be shut down. There's nothing to shut down. It's an offline game. You do only own a license but SKG wasn't going to fix that. A license to the game is the best it will ever get on any digital storefront. That doesn't give you a moral argument to steal all games on a digital storefront
The Ubisoft Launcher is needed. I assume if they discontinued the launcher then they would remove the need for it. If they didn't then all of their games would be wiped from PC and that doesn't benefit them
I'm not saying SKG is bad. I'm saying that stealing games because SKG has experienced a setback has no logical basis. If you want to steal the game then steal it, but don't act like it's some crusade and you're justified in your piracy.
With or without SKG you won't own a single player offline only game. You will always only own a license to the game. SKG isn't going to change that, so stealing it because SKG has a setback just doesn't make sense. Go ahead and do what you want though
I do want to clear one thing up before I go do something else:
You understand that piracy and stealing are actually two different things, right?
Piracy is copyright infringement.
If I steal something from you, then I have taken that thing away from you. I have it and you don't. That's stealing, also called: theft, burglary, or robbery depending on exactly how I did it.
If I pirate a video game, I've made a copy (likely a copy of a copy of a copy... etc). They still have the video game. I just have it now too. I have stolen absolutely nothing. I've violated their copyright by creating an unauthorized duplicate.
This is not to excuse piracy as somehow good or moral. I'm still breaking the law if I do that. I'm just not breaking the thievery law. I'm breaking copyright law. And it's important to use the right words for things.
You are stealing potential money from them. I understand the distinction, but Piracy does take something away from the entity that is being pirated. Pirating a piece of software doesn't do no harm and you know that
Itâs absolutely not uncommon. I would bet most people who pirate a game wanted that game. If they couldnât have pirated it they likely would have bought it. People arenât pirating games that they donât want. It causes a loss in sales. It causes games to be leaked. It does real damage. The people who are affected arenât the execs. Itâs the developers who are trying to make a living and created the games

Wait what did you say?
Pirate their upcoming Rayman Remake? If you insist
