Tagging as politics since this usually ends up being a political issue. It’s also partially a vent. But we have a serious deer problem and it’s frustrating that barely anything is done about it in an effective manner and on a state level.
We have so many deer that it’s killing people in vehicle accidents with deer (I had 3 close calls just this morning on my way to work,) making our tick population skyrocket, cases of tick-borne illnesses are increasing, the deer starve in the winter because there’s too many of them and not enough food, diseases of deer thrive because there’s so many hosts and the deer die terrible deaths because of it, native plants and trees can’t grow because the deer eat them all, and habitats for other native species of animals are destroyed or harmed as a result of this.
The hunting season does nothing to curb the deer numbers as most deer live in suburban or even urban areas where hunting isn’t permitted. So that doesn’t work. The birth control methods are also not effective. We also know that most people in NJ would oppose reintroducing the natural predators of the deer (wolves, cougars, bobcats, etc), as well as it generally being infeasible now due to how developed NJ is.
But we created this problem by eliminating these predators, so it’s our responsibility to handle the deer population now. The only way to do this is through regular culling, but anytime this is mentioned people lose their shit. “Activists” always try to stop it even though the overpopulation of deer is hurting our natural environment, the deer, and people. It’s so incredibly frustrating to watch as this happens.
We need to take notes from the UK and Ireland who finally started culling their deer.

It was the Summer of 1998. I was 8 years old. My sister and I were home at the house during the day. I spent the day playing N64, riding my bike, and playing with the neighborhood kids.
My Mom came home from work one night, and we got a call from Great Grandma. My Great Grandma was 98 and lived in a Nursing Home in Elizabeth. She called to tell my Mother that our house was on the evening news. At first my Mom could not believe it, and worried dementia was setting in. To further investigate, my Mom turned on the news, and behold it was our house.
Channel 7 Eyewitness News was covering a story in Howell about man who would emerge from the woods and roam the neighborhood frightening children. Neighborhood kids stated he was dressed as a clown. My Moms response was to tell me to stay inside and play Mario Cart with my sister all day until this mystery was solved.
A few weeks later, the identity of the Clown of Woods in Howell had been determined. He was a recently discharged patient of Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital. He was not dressed as clown, but instead wore hospital pajamas, slippers, and had long unkempt hair. I suppose his appearance reminded the kids of a clown. Needless to say, I still find clowns unsettling.

This is a truly horrific story that is really rocking my world to just how cruel and evil people can be to children. I wasn't aware until this article just how lax New Jersey is when it comes to homeschooling and child welfare. Regardless of how you feel about homeschooling as a topic, I do believe that there should be some overhaul of the current way we do things here because it seems like an obvious vector of possible abuse in its current form. Rest in Peace Maya Thomas, and may the ones who failed to protect you never see the light of day again.

ICE sighting/arrest in Delran - I tried posting in r/SouthJersey but the post was removed - I am new to posting there.
This occurred around noon on Wednesday, October 21.
Was walking in rainbow meadow part off of Creek Road. When I walked in, there was a laborer doing landscaping, no cars around.
As I walked out, there was a white van (Maryland plates), caged windows, and a detained person in the back. The driver was wearing body armor. The laborer was nowhere to be seen.
about 10 minutes later there were 6 or so more vehicles, with many officers wearing military colored body armor with clear “Police ICE” lettering. As far as I can tell all the vehicles were unmarked.
I obviously do not know the details of who the detained individual was. I hope this was a justified arrest but can’t help being unsettled given ICE’s documented issues with abuse of power and intimidation.
This post is just to make people aware of what is happening in our community. Delran is a wonderful place full of incredible cultural diversity. Stay safe and be vigilant, particularly as we get closer to Election Day.

Hi r/newjersey,
This is a bit of an unusual post. I recently bought a dark blue 2016 BMW 435i Gran Coupe at an auction in Idaho. At some point it was registered here in New Jersey with plates NSB14C. It's now on a ship to Europe, where it'll be its new home.
I'm not looking for anything legal or money-related. The purchase is done and everything is fine. I'm just a car enthusiast, and I'd love to hear the car's story from someone who owned it while it was in NJ: any quirks, maintenance history, mods, things worth knowing, or how it ended up across the country.
If this was your car, or you know who had it, I'd be grateful if you could pass along that I'd love to chat if they're interested. No pressure at all. Feel free to DM me here.
I'll happily send photos once it's settled in Europe so they can see where it ended up.
Thanks, and sorry if this isn't the right place for it!

Hey New Jersey!
I'm Ryan Michael Kelly, and I'm running for Congress as an independent in New Jersey's 3rd District.
I've spent much of my life in public service. I was elected to my local borough council at 23, worked in education, and spent nearly 13 years working for the federal government, including in civil rights and civil liberties.
I've seen what government can do when it works well, and I've seen what happens when it doesn't.
That's a big part of why I'm running.
I believe our government should work for us, not political parties, wealthy donors, or special interests. We need people who listen, work together, and actually get things done.
I'm fighting for universal healthcare, affordable housing, living wages, workers' rights, better education, and a government that puts people first.
But enough about me. I want to hear from you!
Ask me about my background, my policies, why I'm running as an independent, or anything else you're curious about.
And if you disagree with me, that's fine too! I welcome tough questions. We don't have to agree on everything to have a good conversation.
I'll start answering questions tonight at 7:30 PM ET and plan to stick around until about 9:00 PM. I'll also try to return later to answer questions I missed.
I'll be answering personally using speech-to-text to help keep up, so please excuse any strange typos!
And a quick FYI about the pink shirt in my verification photo: I just got back from the gym, and my local Crunch Fitness is doing a breast cancer awareness promotion. So yes, I'm wearing pink today! Figured I'd keep it on for the AMA photo. 🎗️
You can learn more about my campaign at https://www.kellyfornj03.com/
Thanks to the r/newjersey moderators for hosting this, and thanks to everyone joining the conversation.
Alright, New Jersey. Ask me anything!
Ryan Michael Kelly

I went to Carms farm and honestly I’m questioning a lot of the animals there. Aside from the normal farm animals (goats, chickens, horses…) there are zebras, camels, and even kangaroos. I don’t know if it’s normal but the kangaroos looked so drowsy and when they would get up to move places it looked as if they were moving in slow motion. There were also a few cows, when we tried feeding them they were super aggressive (about to bite us) and even with each other they were fighting a lot. Maybe I’m reading into it too much but the animals were giving me a weird vibe and I’m afraid they’re being mistreated. I was wondering if anyone has been there and knows what’s up?

Hi everyone! I’m 25 years old and currently living in New Jersey on a J-1 visa. I need to get the chickenpox (varicella) vaccine, but every place I’ve contacted has quoted me around $200 for the dose.
I don’t have health insurance that covers this vaccine, and unfortunately, $200 is a lot for me to spend, especially since I may need more than one dose.
Does anyone know of any clinics, health departments, pharmacies, or other facilities in New Jersey where I could get the vaccine for a much lower price, or possibly for free?
I’m open to traveling within New Jersey if needed. I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice from people who have been in a similar situation.
Thank you!

Does anyone know what happened? Strong police presence, students all gathered outside, around 4:30. It was chaos. Sounded serious.

I'm a Slate enthusiast myself and only stumbled across this event by accident. Figured I'd spread the word in case others hadn't heard about it either.
