LeBron on if he’s ever played with someone as fast as Tyrese Maxey: “Dennis Schroder… Dennis is damn fast too with the ball and defensively is damn good too.”
Shout out to Dennis the Menace

I mean, the Cavs very literally could not have gotten out of the first round without him, so I agree.

u/GeorgeEBHastings Cavaliers 10h ago
He wasn't always popular on the Cavs sub (which is mostly whining anyway) but I, for one, really enjoyed Herr Schroder on our team.
12
u/teardropshot Cavaliers 7h ago
He has flaws but I never understand fans' instincts to blame Role Player #6 instead of the stars on the team for losses. It's got to be LeBron PTSD, but it's also not like we have a LeBron on our roster.

Dennis is really fast and talented

u/KarrotMovies [LAL] Chris Mañon 10h ago
My favorite Dennis move is his spin hesi (?) where he at the wing, shifts his body back like he's gonna pass to thetop of the key and then does a full 180 and drives to the rim cause his defender is one step slow

u/SikeShay Lakers 3h ago
My favorite play is during end of reg, need to kill time and other team wants to take a foul. Dennis is unbeatable at running around wihout being caught lmao

His career utterly baffles me, the guy clearly has the skills to be an elite PG and a highly effective contributor on a contender but he vasicllates between all star caliber and barely playable like few players I've seen.

I know he's the Bonnie Blue of the NBA but he's nice, that's why everybody wants a shot.
His deceleration is a thing of beauty.

He should've won 6MOY in 19-20. Best season of his career and he was vital to OKC being surprisingly really good that season.

I'm rarely frustrated about a snub, but that year felt like no one was watching us enough to see how fucking good he was. He definitely deserved that one.

killer 3 guard lineup that year, very enjoyable team to watch with 3 very different types of guards as well, all highly skilled

Even if you don’t watch porn, she’s kind of infamous for a host of reasons. 1000 men at a go, getting pregnant in one of those orgies, celebrating the kid with a golden shower as a baby shower then having people bid on the name of the kid via an auction site.

The sad truth is to be a journeyman in the league, you have to be good enough that you got value but not good enough that teams won't sell you away

Yeah, he can infuriate you and his German blunt temperament probably does him no favors, but he's a solid point guard. His game is especially evident during FIBA and the Olympics -- he disappears among star PGs in the NBA, but when he plays for Germany he's a problem

You’ve invoked Dennis Schröder - his passive ability, Nomad's Curse, immediately moves him to the nearest opposing team.

ESPN tomorrow: Does Lebron think Tyrese Maxey is too slow? What does this mean for the sixers season?

4
u/My-Life-For-Auir Australia 3h ago
You're thinking too small. They can turn this into a story of how LeBron hates Luka because of the Luka/Schroeder beef
6
u/Otherwise_Nobody8148 9h ago
Stephen A - I KNOW! Dennis, even HE! would say LeeeBron! is smoking something here!
Now maybe... Maybe maxey is resisting lebron stepping into his father's role? I'm just saying - things aren't looking good for Philadelphia!

Was it only me or at some points during the game yesterday, everything looked and felt like a blur. I've been watching the NBA for the last two decades and yesterday was the first time I thought everyone was moving on an entirely different plain. The game is just so goddamn fast now.

u/shortyman920 Lakers 11h ago
The Knicks are always a high effort defensive team and the Sixers have very athletic perimeter players plus a guy like LeBron who can throw surgical fast balls. So this probably was a faster than normal looking ballgame
63
u/Immynimmy 76ers 10h ago
Holy shit it’s crazy you just said the Sixers have very athletic perimeter players.
I freaking prayed for times like this.
19
u/shortyman920 Lakers 9h ago
Haha enjoy it. That seems to be the current meta of the league. Have all these fast, athletic perimeter players, one solid big (superstar in your case), and then LeBron there to glue it all together

u/indoninjah 76ers 9h ago
He's also insanely good at getting off layups at 100mph. He can definitely get tunnel vision and I'd love for him to kick out more, but it's still extremely impressive
16
u/NbaAllDAYger Mavericks 10h ago
Maxey might be faster overall but Schröder has a quicker step its hard to explain, there are players who are fast and some who are have a elite quick step which makes the defender unable to recover.
D.Rose was blessed with both btw.
2
u/Magicnik99 76ers 2h ago
I know what you mean. I have a high level football (soccer) background in Europe. As a basketball player I was always the fastest and also quickest player on every court. But I'm in my late twenties now and had ACL surgery and three meniscus injuries and 2 more surgeries because of that. Also two bone bruises. I'm still by far the fastest player. Like Coast to Coast I'm probably faster with the ball than everyone without the ball.
But that quickness from a standstill has noticeably declined. I didn't even need moves back then, now I often run into someone's chest when I try. Back then it felt like "teleporting" now It feels more like a locomotive that builds speed.
Schröder always had that teleporting quickness to the absolute maximum. He was gone before you could react. But Coast to Coast I would take Maxey all day or most of the other Hyper athletic PGs over the last decade.
1
u/PrinceOfAssassins 2h ago
id define it as such from the moment you start to make your move to the end of the first move, people think of explosiveness and they think big rippling muscles but a lot of the first step is neurons firing, its your brain telling your muscles to move faster than the defender can react and get his muscles to move
15
u/Standortfaktor 9h ago
Schröder is 33, Maxey is 25. I think now Maxey edges him but Schröder in his younger Hawks years was insanely fast. Like, obviously ever sub 7 foot player that makes it into the NBA is incredibly athletic but you could visually see how Schröder was quicker than everyone on court.
That's why he was such a good 6th man, he'd come off the bench and would feast on tired defenses with his relentless drives to the basket.

6
u/BlueGrovyle Hawks 9h ago
You think so? From what I've seen of him, I feel like it's just as much his strength/ability to shed other guard defenders like they're mosquitos. And of course, his passing isn't bad either.
1
u/Confident-Floor1233 Jazz 9h ago
It’s def a combo of playmaking, strength, and speed that are all pretty top tier traits. The strength and speed work to compliment each other so well with his downhill finishing and ability to collapse the defense. Just can’t shoot worth a damn. I think of him as role player Westbrook.
3
u/SnooDonkeys2892 6h ago

There are players that are genuine arse thats why they get traded so much and there are players whose value and salary are enticing enough to be a good piece so they are a good trade piece. Shroeder is that. He makes decent money so he is a salary filler but he isnt a bum so teams are okay with getting him if since he is a value player whom you can plug to the team

It seems like there's a guy that falls into this category for a few seasons at a time, usually after they have established that they are a reliable vet but on a roughly MLE salary. Robert Covington, Dorian Finney-Smith, Drummond, PJ Tucker, Jae Crowder, Javale
