My old Calvin & Hobbes book has a grammatical error from 1989

I'm so used to seeing the error going the other way it didn't even register.

My wife had no idea and bought me a C&H tshirt. I don't wear it outside the house and explained why we don't buy C&H merch.

Watch out, GOComics is taking down posts with pictures of Calvin and Hobbes strips.

Interesting when Watterson was usually such a perfectionist.

It looks like the error was fixed in newer prints judging by the copies of this comic I could find online, so he eventually noticed or someone told him lol. I've found no mention of this anywhere but you can see the mistake in one other image I found on Facebook: https://i.imgur.com/AmVHLVO.jpeg
Had to do a triple-take when I was reading it

It happens to the best of us from time to time. I'll forgive him.

Man my auto correct has a mind of its own these days. I swear it has a 50/50 chance of changing it to the wrong one.
It constantly changes if and of for some reason too. And I’ve double checked to make sure it’s not just fat fingering.

I remember this year sometimes and I get the craziest decision and everything but there's a reason people just like Garfield more than this series
Like be more lenient for your creations to get adaptations and whatnot

If you don't understand the back story of the strip, you'll never understand why it's NOT an error.

Besides indicating the third person singular noun, "mom's" is equally valid as a contraction for "mom is" or "mom has." Same story for "car's" which can mean the "car is" or the "car has" in addition to it's meaning as something belonging to the car.

And now I see "you're" LOL

"You're" is valid as a contraction in this context as "grammatical error".

What?
"I think you are mom's going to be bothered," is clearly not correct.

I think we're talking about "You're," not "Mom's."

Dude I was typing the very same thing, decided to check the comments first. I completely missed the “you’re” too. Your good 😉
(That last misspelling is a JOKE)

He's a tiger, he can't be expected to know proper grammar.
