I just wanted a hot dog My new reality

Post image

I have IBS and therefore have to severly limit my diet. Mind you half the stuff on this list is food I really enjoy eating, or is virtually included in everything 🙃 the universe said you WILL eat that boiled chicken and rice and you WILL LIKE IT

What’s the consequence of eating the bad foods?

Edit: sounds horrible. Sucks to have to choose between food you want and all of that

Omg, my husband’s stomach makes the most unholy sounds. He just soldiers on, he loves spicy food, which is a big trigger. He’d rather enjoy food and pay the consequences later

Depends on the person but generally: upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, watery stools, accidents (yes, in your pants), and more rarely malnutrition. You can also get severe pain from gas and bloating. Bloating can be extreme, like 2+ inches in my case. So your pants stop fitting 😢 Not following the diet is also linked to bacteria overgrowth but isn't a direct cause according to my doctor.

Wait, 2 inches is extreme? I can bloat 8+

@Murky_Rent_3590 see a doctor, you don't gotta live like that.

I have never measured my bloat in inches but its about 2 pant sizes if I eat trigger foods.

I made another comment describing things more, but I have and I get the shoulder shrug - ibs with constipation. I was on zelnorm 25 years ago for a few years. Then they discontinued it. The only medical news that I’ve had is that I’m a Cystic Fibrosis carrier. And between when I found out and when I had genetic counseling for my son a few years ago the information I was given was carriers don’t exhibit symptoms of the mutations they carry to carriers can exhibit milder symptoms of the mutations they carry. So I suspect that is a good starting place. Also suspect I have POTS. Haven’t had a PCP in a few years and it seems I’ve never had a good one. I know I need to prioritize my health. And from the replies, I’m gonna make some calls this week. Thank you guys

My doctor said that my 2-4 inch expansion was extreme, but that said I don't actually know. But I was only a 30inch waist at the time so maybe that contributes? I've gone as far as 6 but that was with 8/10 pain. I've got stomach stretch marks too from the rapid bloating.

I’m gonna go TMI here. That is your warning to not read. I poop like once a week/ every 2 weeks. Not joking or exaggerating. I once went 6 weeks, with 2 tiny poops. I set a timer at that point and gave myself 24 more hours and I was going to the hospital. I hadn’t eaten in a few days because there was no room and I looked 5/6 months pregnant. I ended up going a few hours later and holy shit the pain. Sweating, chills keening in pain naked on the tile floor. First colonoscopy I took all the meds and had a first shift bartending at a new place. I had no idea how fast and brutal the meds were supposed to be and when I inevitably over shared I was wondering why people were looking at me like I was nuts. lol. Made it through the shift with no problems. Last colonoscopy I had I took all the meds the night before. My appt was 2pm. Noon rolls around and I still didn’t go. Took the whole dose again. Barely went in time for my new appt 24 hours later. But everything looks fine so I get the diagnosis of IBS with constipation. But my waist can regularly go from a 26/27- 36. Hell, it’s 33 and I just pooped. I’m bloated as fuck rn.

I once went 21 days. Doctors said not to let it go past that. They pumped me full of everything. Fluids through iv, laxative drink with stool softeners, and i lost nearly 6lbs when I finally went. I also got mistaken for pregnant. I didn't think to measure my bloating that time but it was bad.

2 inches is perfectly respectable!

An irritated bowel

18

u/lezbehonest787 2h ago

And potential future colon cancer from said irritated bowel.

3

u/BrucetheFerrisWheel 1h ago

Thats IBD not IBS.

4

u/MyNameIsSkittles 2h ago

IBS doesnt raise your risk of bowel cancer. Other factors do

u/Pooradoxical 2h ago

Literal pain and suffering lmfao. stuck on the toilet for 30+ minutes, stomach pains. I stopped giving a fuck because id rather enjoy my food and deal with the suffering later. FUN fact though laxatives can help with the pain.

I have the D type so I always carry Imodium tablets just in case I want to grab food that makes me sick. My best friend is lactose intolerant so it's almost guaranteed that one of us is taking something when we're out and about lol

18

u/snapplesauce1 1h ago

I kept forgetting that my roommate was lactose intolerant. We'd be mid-pizza and I'd exclaim, "Holy shit! What are we doing here!?" And he'd just be like, "This pizza is delicious. I'll just explode later."

•

u/proserpinax 49m ago

I’ve developed some level of lactose intolerance but it just changed certain things I didn’t care about. Like getting a milk substitute for my coffee drinks is like whatever, but I love cheese so I will fight my body for it. Also certain things affect me differently. Cheese isn’t terrible, but I figured out I had lactose intolerance when I realized my stomach always felt like shit after drinking a latte. Plain milk is the worst, followed by ice cream, but I also say fuck it and eat ice cream more than I should.

•

u/snapplesauce1 27m ago

I've developed a shellfish intolerance, actually, and entertained the prospect of brute forcing it out of me. I understand your struggle, although yours sounds worse as lactose is EVERWHERE. I've heard it's inadvisable to try to brute force it, but has it improved for you when you just go long periods of time of simply suffering it? I f-in love crab.

Weird question and probably one for Google but I wonder if something like an enema would be good if you're experiencing an ibs flare up? Clean out the pipes so to speak. 🤔

11

u/Pooradoxical 2h ago

wont help iv tried trust me lmao

11

u/AnAnGrYSupportV2 2h ago

Well that's shitty.

2

u/Pooradoxical 2h ago

actually your supposed to use water

5

u/MyNameIsSkittles 2h ago

Not if you have diarrhea

9

u/d_smogh 2h ago

Squitty bottom on the toilet

13

u/Els236 2h ago

Seriously irritated bowels and being stuck on the toilet feeling like your intestines are coming out with everything else.

Also, sometimes, very sharp pains / cramps in the stomach area.

23

u/Milkweedhugger 2h ago

Diarrhea, constipation, arthritis, eczema, cystic acne, eye inflammation, nasal congestion, etc….

u/TheBostonCopSlide 2h ago

Are you saying these are consequences of unmanaged IBS, or are you thinking of IBD? Not trying to be argumentative, I just want to understand and learn more. For context, my wife has IBS and chooses not to follow a special diet for the most part; and I have diagnosed autoimmune issues that also affect my digestion but my docs can't seem to give me definitive answers about food so I manage my diet on my own based on my symptoms (aka how frequent and/or extreme is the pooping)

u/Im_Just_A_Tourist 2h ago

Wait so my undiagnosed joint pain could be related to certain foods causing horrible cramping diarrhea and shitting blood if I eat certain foods? That's gonna make all of this so much more difficult. I was willing to put up with occasional severe discomfort intestinal cramps and bloody diarrhea. The joint pain though is making walking and even driving(applying pressure on the gas or brake) difficult sometimes if changing my diar might help I might have to actually try.

14

u/WavyLady 2h ago

Big time! If you have bone and joint pain, get checked for celiac or Hashimoto's

Sore bones are my biggest signed I've been glutened, and it lasts for ages.

3

u/DhampireHEK 2h ago

This one big time. Taking Benadryl/prednisone can help with some of the joint inflammation if it's bad enough.

•

u/mrs-sir-walter-scott 18m ago

It also happens with EOE and other food intolerance-based shenanigans. Good luck! You'll honestly feel a million times better if you can figure out what's triggering it.

3

u/fightmydemonswithme 2h ago

Is it fresh blood (bright red) or old blood (black and sticky)? Fresh blood can also be hemorrhoids. I'd seriously consider a doctor either way. Blood loss is not healthy and you are prone to infections anytime your stool mixes with blood.

3

u/Im_Just_A_Tourist 2h ago

Always fresh sometimes dark blood clots mixed in I've had multiple colonoscopy and endoscopy minor hemroids internal that I'm sure the severe gut twisting cramps don't help stay intact.

3

u/fightmydemonswithme 2h ago

I'm sorry you are going through that. I was having similar issues and after 6 weeks on the restricted diet they went away. I slowly reintroduced 1 food per week and waited to see how I reacted.

3

u/Im_Just_A_Tourist 1h ago

I've thought about that and doing a digestive reset through long fasting that I've heard of but it's hard to find the time when you have family and they like what they like so making something separate just for you is cost prohibitive.

2

u/fightmydemonswithme 1h ago

I feel that. I was so miserable I was willing to do anything. Now I pick and choose when to suffer 😅

7

u/tocahontas77 2h ago

Yeah you need to see a digestive specialist. In the meantime, try cutting down on gluten, dairy, and sugar. They're known to cause inflammation.

•

u/WavyLady 58m ago

I recommend not cutting gluten until tested though or else the result could be wrong. Ask to get tested as soon as possible though

u/stormblessed579 1h ago

I never knew the acne was connected! I have noticed generally when I am well I have good skin and when I an unwell bad skin, but ibs can lead to acne???

2

u/Infamous-Zebra-359 2h ago

Diarrhea usually

2

u/Icooktoo 2h ago

Well, I keep an empty bucket next to the toilet. Have for over 40 years.

2

u/Kelsosunshine 2h ago

Constipation and diarrhea at the same time :)

2

u/Papaverpalpitations 1h ago

Soul-rending diarrhea.
