Yep, the BioWare people are upset over has not existed for a long time. This is just a studio that shares the name with a great studio that released some great games in the past.

Not to downplay how awful it is that hundreds of people are out of work, but I think that, by and large, people are concerned about the loss of the IPs rather than the loss of the studio itself.

The IPs aren't lost, EA still owns them and can have another studio work on them.

I was gonna say this. I don't see any other studios picking these up for a number of reasons- I feel like it's EA or nothing. And EA already has so many IPs they can bring back that they don't (take dead space for example).
