I'm pretty sure that is universal. They're getting paid in dollars or a tuition waiver or both.

Yeah, there literally isn't such a thing as an unpaid TA. That just wouldn't make sense. Though there definitely are still students forced to grade who aren't being paid.

AFAIK the only time you end up with students grading while being unpaid is in a class where the professor has all the students grade each other's work as a first pass (and, typically, as an exercise in what to look for so you can learn too).
