Legit question... How often do you watch what you've recorded?

I record more audio than video but rarely go back and listen.

u/thetoerubber 28d ago

I’m the weirdo that actually does watch them when I’m bored lol

u/BKlounge93 28d ago

Same. I’ll take maybe 2-3 30 sec videos throughout a show and i absolutely go back and watch them, especially if it’s been a couple years. Now, recording the whole show? That’s dumb.

I was going to say me! I also rewatch them, although I usually only record like either a few snippets or just one full song that's my absolute favorite to listen back too! Especially if its a small venue so I can really hear them good!!!

Same. I especially record and watch videos I’ve taken at shows when the visuals are impressive and fun. I have some videos in my phone from a Deadmau5 show several years ago when he did one of his Cube tours that I’ve rewatched a bunch of times.

Pretty lame, really

4

u/sexandliquor 28d ago

Cool. I didn’t fucking ask.

-7

u/4mothsinatrenchcoat 28d ago

Publicly state that you do lame shit, be prepared to hear about it. Enjoy your dull life

2

u/sexandliquor 28d ago

Oh yes my life is so dull lol. I’m not the one just randomly talking shit on Reddit, buddy. Probably the most “I got nothing going on for myself in life” shit imaginable.

You’re really showing me!

You still typing?

I absolutely do as well. I only go to one or 2 a year, I'm old now haha. I love watching some of.my own recordings including of the video screen if I'm not up front. Being able to watch Derek Trucks transform a guitar into an emotional experience on a big screen is unlike anything else. Having my own few clips of this are outstanding

1

u/pugbugyapper 28d ago

I watch mine lol

1

u/Thunderbridge 28d ago

Yep, if it was a really good concert, I'll re watch them over and over to relive it

Shoutout to the guy who recorded Justice on a DS

2

u/metal_is_eternal 28d ago

Yeah I totally watch my concert videos. Going to a concert is a special event to me so I like to have short videos of my favorite songs to look back in awe on.

u/Demoliri 28d ago

They record a 10 minute video, and show it to 1 friend, just 1 time, for 5 seconds.

It's a complete waste of time. Take 1 photo of a gig of you need to, but watch the damn gig!

11

u/CuriousButNotJewish 28d ago

Or, hot take, you record your favourite song and then rewatch it remembering how cool the moment was.

4

u/Skyecatcher 28d ago

As a modest mouse fan I have learned to record between songs to catch Isaac’s rants. Like at the shaky knees festival last weekend he was talking shit about a pretty sunset

3

u/Sad_Salamander_3439 28d ago

I will usually record one or two moments of his bullshit and otherwise am famous for dancing in the front ✨ the entire show✨. nobody is going to dampen my time at my mm show.

2

u/Skyecatcher 28d ago

I’ve never had a bad time at a Modest Mouse show

2

u/Life-Ad6650 28d ago

Are you aware you can watch the gig and film at the same time. Just because you’re filming doesn’t mean you have to stare at the screen instead of the stage

26

u/Tankeverket 28d ago

Quite often, especially in the future if I'm preparing to see them live again, I'll go back to watch to remember the last time. I enjoy it quite a bit 🤷‍♀️

-4

u/goldmeistergeneral 28d ago

Preparing to go and record them on your phone again, you mean

8

u/Tankeverket 28d ago

No, preparing to go to block as many people's view as possible

28

u/Xxxpeaches1 28d ago

I go back a lot and I cry bc I’m
A fucking lame ass bitch that’s perimenopausal lmao. But for real. It makes me happy getting to reflect back on the little clips I’ve taken cuz my ADHD doesnt always allow my brain to retain memories like I’d like it too

3

u/Youre_nucking_futs 28d ago

This is all extremely relatable

2

u/mrmcbobinsnuggles 28d ago

So you're saying....there's a chance...

6

u/Bigassnipples 28d ago

I was just going through videos of my favorite band from a few years ago, so me haha

3

u/Definitelynotagolem 28d ago

I don’t think most do but if you know them they’ll make you sit through watching their shitty quality video on their phone to show you how awesome the concert was. No thanks. If I wanted to watch a video of the concert there are professionally recorded versions available

12

u/Darkex72 28d ago

Quite frequently actually, I love having footage of my favourite bands live that was captured essentially through my own eyes.

2

u/oNellyyy 28d ago

Wife and I stopped doing videos for most things and will only take a few pictures or a short video if wanted for memories, since we would look through videos and be like wtf is this even being recorded so long for.

It just doesn’t matter that much and we like to be more present with trips.

2

u/Fluffy-Refuse2009 28d ago

I have mostly stopped taking photos for this reason. What's the point if I never look at them?

2

u/Impossible-Bat-6713 28d ago

I did it once and stopped after that because I realized I stopped paying attention to the concert as opposed to my phone. Went back and deleted the videos saving storage space.

2

u/coolborder 28d ago

Yeah, I used to record maybe 1 song per concert and then realized that I pretty much never watch them. Now I take a picture or two when a band first comes out and call it good.

3

u/Silly_Bodybuilder231 28d ago

It's so they can share this in their group chats for others to watch.

6

u/couchtomato62 28d ago

This. And frankly not just a chat room. Some of the biggest fan sites have people recording at every stop... And the video is shared privately to thousands.

1

u/StrawberryCorrect87 28d ago

I don’t record entire concerts mostly because I already know other people will record and upload most of it and I don’t have to. But I do record parts of songs here and there and I absolutely rewatch them, sometimes many times over. And occasionally when I know I want a video that I didn’t take myself, I’ll go and try and find it and then I’ll save or bookmark those and I will rewatch them! Concerts are really special to me and I love reliving them. Sometimes it really just bring it all back and you and be back in that moment again. I have some concert clips on my phone I’ve watched like 50 times.

1

u/PJmichelle 28d ago

Yeah, especially when you can usually find better pro recordings of the same tour on YouTube.

1

u/JulyOfAugust 28d ago

It's like watching pictures from your childhood, right now it's boring and you couldn't care less but in 15 years you'll watch them with nostalgia and their value will grow.

Tho personally I do prefer pictures to videos.

1

u/soldieroscar 28d ago

I mean I recorded a whole ten minute dj set and then play it while driving. But not a whole 5 hour concert

1

u/zelka_forn 28d ago

I watch my concert videos a lot. But I usually only record a minute or two out of say a 2 hour show.

1

u/Zhadius 28d ago

This was the realisation I had that stopped me bothering filming things like this. If I really really want to see a video of it after then YouTube will no doubt have hundreds from every angle I could ever want.

1

u/Gothrait_PK 28d ago

About once to twice a month I will go back and watch the couple clips I took because going to shows is not something I get to do often and I like reliving it.

1

u/Wow-WhatARide 28d ago

I'll often record 30secs of a favourite track for the 'photo album', then go back to enjoying it.

1

u/amburroni 28d ago

Due to a corrupt backup, I lost some concert footage from 2008-2010 and im still upset it’s gone.

Live music is my happy place. Going back and watching the footage makes me happy.

1

u/imnotohfuckingk 28d ago

Depends on what it is, but I’ve watched Stevie Nicks sing Landslide over and over.

1

u/Jusbreka 28d ago

I do sometimes but i dont like looking at the phone screen instead of the show so its usually a blurry mess pointed at some tree to the left of the stage

1

u/uptiedand8 28d ago

I watch everything once through the next day or so. Then I pick and save my favorites and watch them a couple times a year and send them to my husband.

The real purpose of these videos is for me to watch in the old folks home. I’ll be 85, husband will most likely be no longer with us, lonely, frail, with only my health aide robot to talk at. I plan to watch all those videos again at that point. I try to not spend too much time recording at shows, but tbh the more footage I have of the good times, the better. I forget so much otherwise.

1

u/CosmicVoyaging 28d ago

All the time if I recorded a great sounding video and captured great and unshaken production etc lol

0

u/Bigravemaster1 28d ago

I like to record full songs not clips, but even at a 5 day festival ill only take about 10.

I have a lot of friends and families members who don't go to events anymore and it's nice to be able to share that with them.

Music means a lot to me, it's impossible for me to see an artist that I used to listen to with someone and not be reminded of them, so by taking a short video to share with them it's a nice way to let them know I'm thinking of them and the good times we had listening to the artist I'm seeing.

u/closerupper 28d ago

I watch concert videos on planes when they get closer to landing

0

u/Formal_Distance_8770 28d ago

Buddy I carry a GoPro. Always recording material

0

u/DumbClamCollector 28d ago

I watch them especially when I’m on the toilet at work and there’s no cell service in there to browse the web lol

0

u/Grimpy 28d ago

Concerts are more my wife’s thing. I don’t mind being there but I’m not nearly as excited as she is. As such, I tend to try and record her favourite songs. She can be there, living in the moment, and she still gets videos to share and revisit from time to time.

Luckily I am quite tall and considerate of those around me so I am able to keep my phone very close to my chest and, at least I hope, not negatively impact the experience of those around me.

0

u/Life-Ad6650 28d ago

I constantly go back and watch concerts I’ve recorded lol

-1

u/ProduceNo8883 28d ago

I watch my Modest Mouse Moon & Antarctica tour clips a lot tbh
