Now imagine every salon, or every other establishment being tip-free. That's life outside of US

Lived abroad for one year.

Not having to tip is amazing. Coming back, first time saw a tip menu it took me by surprise

Coming from a country that doesnt have a compulsary tipping culture, whenever we do tip, they gracefully and gratefully accept it.

And when we dont tip, they dont tell us "you cant afford to eat outside you cheapo"

on the card reader screen it'll ask you how much you want to tip before finalizing. not only are the "recommended" percentages 15/20/25 but you have to specifically choose "no tip" at the very bottom so the employee can see you choose it

Not true. Tipping hairdressers is common in several European countries.

I never had to tip them. They set their own prices.

Do you honestly believe that?

Here in NZ I've literally never tipped in my life. We actually just pay people what they're worth(ish) and then set prices in accordance to that.

I don't tip in Australia either, outside very rare and specific situations. But to think there is not tipping whatsoever outside the US is naivety.

I think I have tipped only a handful of times. Like giving a cabbie a bit extra for getting us out of a bad situation, or once at a restaurant for truly exceptional service when we were probably asking for more than we should have.
