What does sigma and alpha men even mean? I see these terms being thrown around, never actually understood what makes one sigma and other alpha

Its really just cool names people try to give themselves. I suppose the term "alpha male" makes sense in certain situations when talking about animals (doesnt really work for human society), but thats about it as far as real use of the terms goes.

I was never in the groups (thankfully) so my understanding is incredibly limited
But I believe that sigma is the lone wolf kind, they do things on their own with no expectation to support others and do what they want
And alpha's are the opposite, they lead the pack and are expected to be big and strong for others or something like that
Doesn't matter cause it's all based on rubbish anyway, because the "alpha" in wolves is the parent

,,Alpha male" typically refers to someone viewing themselves as the king; being on top of a social hierarchy when it comes to dating. Men who call themselves that believe they are superior to other men (referred to as ,,Beta males"), can ask any woman out with ease, are the most attractive, the richest; you know the gist. As you may imagine, this includes the most insufferable, self-centered and downright predatory men you'll have ever met.
,,Sigma male" originated from those tired of the ,,Alpha/Beta male" discourse and called themselves something even lower than ,,Beta", but it had been hijacked by the people who engage in it still. It then changed its meaning to a man who doesn't care about anything, does not engage at all with society, and believes that he is an ,,Alpha", but women just can't appreciate someone as wonderful as him, and thus he shouldn't be trying to improve himself, because ,,modern women" wouldn't date him regardless. GenAlpha typically calls this way someone who's a master at something - full of charisma, skill, attractive, achieved something otherworldly and alike.

It would be great if the "Alpha Males" and "Sigma Males" actually believed they should be held equally accountable to women, but I've never seen one that does.
