People donate to big streamers

Fr spending your hard earned money to tip someone sitting in a multi million dollar setup just to hear them read your name out loud will always be crazy to me. Can’t afford to do that

Interactivity is literally the entire point of the platform. If people don't like it they should just watch Netflix.

imagine sending your last $5 to someone who makes more in an hour than you do in a month

u/mukisan 12h ago
You really think someone that broke would send it to a fucking streamer? Get real

u/Hopeful-Doctor-7968 10h ago
You'd hope so. I mean I'm subbed to a couple patrons and if my financial situation changed and I needed to cut back that sort of thing would be the first to go but let's not pretend that the world isn't full of financially irresponsible people

I mean if it good streamer the sure... Just don't put to much money, better off putting it on a donation stream

u/the_vegandonut 14h ago
facts, I just think of it as a “thank you” for being such good entertainment

Iv only ever donated to 1 streamer, and thays just because he was pure entertainment and good vibes. I dont even really watch streamers but i had a hearthstone obsession at the time.

Most people aren't donating to streamers, they are subscribing to avoid ads.

Just use adblocker?

u/NeighborhoodDude84 7h ago
Some sites block adblockers, or depending on device there might not have the option to use adblockers. Also amazon prime gives you a free subscription once a month which I use.

Give $$$ to Streamer and then complain cost of life is too high and yell "eat the rich"
7
u/Halsti 13h ago
eating the rich is mainly talking about billionaires, not single or double digit millions.
if you make 10 mil a year, you would still have to work for a hundred years to make your first billion. Elon musk has a trillion dollars. if you calculate that down to 30 years of work, that would mean he makes roughly 4 million dollars every hour, even when sleeping.

If I get a bunch of laughs, they've earned their sub or donation. Biggest streamer I watch is Kruzadar tho, so idk if that even counts in the world of massive streamers like that moist speed guy
I don't understand it when you're like "I'll do my part and gift 1 sub" just for some psycho to gift 500 subs immediately after...

I think I donated to three streamers ever and they all reacted warmly to my dono so worth it.

Gaming streamers are no better than any other influencers. It’s the same shit, just under a different umbrella

Sorry I don't tip google employees only waiting staff and delivery drivers
I refuse to donate to ad peddlers and panhandlers.

You donate your lunch money and the streamer says ‘thanks for the $5, king’ in the same voice he uses for everyone else, and somehow that’s enough

u/Mailpack 9h ago
I don't think donating to big streamers is about the actual money being given though? It's more about membership benefits and superchat exposure, isn't it?

Why are people giving money to streamers?

Read 'supply and demand 101' and report back in

Not really relevant. The question is why the demand exists and the consumer willingness to pay is what it is, arguably far above rationality.
Maybe a behavioral economics, or honestly better a psychology and or marketing course would do them better.

Kinda depends on the streamer. It does make a different for those who average 5-20 viewers per stream
