People care about their streaks here? I thought that was a Snapchat thing , and I have been using reddit for a few years now

u/Wallace_W_Whitfield 23h ago
I’m 112 days away from 1000. I will get that final streak achievement and finally give myself a break
48
u/Bemxuu 22h ago
1000 days achievement literally says they will add more as more people reach 1000.
37
u/Wallace_W_Whitfield 22h ago
Fuuuuck. Why must they do this 😭 1000 is the perfect spot to stop

Its worth noting the final one used to be basement dweller. Theyve added some i believe.
Stands to reason theyll continue to. Imagine starting over lmao
10
u/Wallace_W_Whitfield 22h ago
I dread starting over. If these achievements were already always starting at 0 for each one, then sure, missing a day wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but because they’re sequential, it’s awful to think about.

I wouldn't say I care, but when I got banned for a day before a 700 day streak or some shit it kinda felt bad.
Like, you're at work, someone brought donuts, but by the time you get their, your flavour is gone?
So, like, you didn't lose anything, but you could've had that thing, you know?

To be fair the only way I keep my streak alive is to upvote something once a day

How do you check this?
7
u/FloydianSlip20 1d ago
Just go to your page, there’s a little section with achievement badges near the top. Click on that and it takes you to the achievements. Look for the streak badges. It used to be so much easier and you used to get a pop up notification every day that you extended but idk why they changed it.

Accidentally had /comics start popping up in my feed and was initially confused assuming it would either be a sub related to comic books or old-school Sunday comics like Garfield.
Its crazy that such a broad reaching sub was essentially taken over by someone's illustrated blog.

I got a ban for a similar reason. Someone was getting stabbed in a video and when I said something that would have helped defend the victim from the stabber, I got banned for promoting violence.
It was not even like I said something unusually cruel or damaging, just a basic smack.

You can get banned for anything to tbh. You can do literally nothing wrong, and get banned here sometimes.
Oh yeah, I got a three day ban for "inciting violence" once.
There was a video of a guy burning down the factory he worked at, I commented how he's stupid for doing arson at his workplace and recording himself doing it, and commented how likely jail is going to become his new home.
How that falls under as "inciting violence" is anyone's guess. I had it appealed but reddit's ban system is utterly stupid at times.
10
u/SpartanKilo 1d ago
I made a joke about the darleks from Doctor Who extermination joke and was banned for three days for “inciting violence” then a few weeks later me and some guy made a joke or two about ONI from halo making people disappear for saying certain things then I was banned for 7 days BOTH times I messaged the appeal stating that they were movie/game references and not even a threat but they denied it. The sad part is that both of them said they use AI to determine if the ban is needed.

On written paper- OP will ask people to decipher someone’s handwriting. Well someone wrote “ill youself” but with a K in the beginning as part of the sentence. I typed the phrase with parentheses and explained that this is the last sense in the paper. I got banned for 3 days. I tried to appeal it explaining others in the sub have also written this but formatted their answers differently, plus that’s what the sub is!!

u/afgan1984 1d ago edited 1d ago
Most often, sub-admins report, normal user reports almost never get you banned from Reddit, only from the sub. But there are some very nasty subs, where simply posting on them can get you banned and the admins are absolute dicks.
In my case, guy cross-posted a shitty meme from his own sub, which had like 20 people in it. I made a comment on the original cross-post, just basically saying, "This would be funny if it were true, but it very obviously false. So basically, I called his meme shitty, he banned me forever and when I received the message from him saying "you were banned", I responded with "GTFO loser. He reported me for "harassing" and I got a 3-day ban.
But bans don't affect streaks, they just freeze for the duration of the ban.

Being pro-Israel will do the trick pretty reliably.
But if you're not in the political mood, just go into a sub and post a hot take against the subs majority leaning.
Every day Reddit is even more of a circle jerk clown show.

I somehow managed to keep it alive even through a 3 day ban.
Apparently, disconnecting your account by using time travel (changing the time and date on your phone) fucks it up somewhere and the account gets stuck in limbo. And then the streak pauses until you log back into your account.

Doesn't the streak itself means that you opened the app atleast once during the day? It's not like it's an accomplishment. They just want you to come back to this app daily. Also, in a world where the internet has effectively coalesced into two or three functional app, it's pretty standard to habitually visit those apps daily. If instagram had a streak count, I am pretty sure everyone of you will have the same score. There will have to be something special or catastrophic to happen in your life that you forget to take out your mobile for the whole day in order to miss the streak
2
u/Muffled_Voice 1d ago
I thought you had to interact with the app daily, like commenting, posting, etc., in order for it to count.

I don’t actually care about having a streak, but it was mildly entertaining to watch the numbers go up, like how you wait for your odometer to hit a cool number. Still annoyed me a bit, though, only because it was bs to suspend me in the first place.
