I'm sure this has nothing to do with the new Saudi ownership. Mass Effect always having strong women and LGBT+ positive inclusion does not fit with what they believe. Fuck EA.

It probably has more to do with the fact the last decent game BioWare put out was Dragon Age Inquisition.

Decent being the key word here. You'd have to go back even further for their last actually good game.
