DISCUSSION Mass effect is still alive
Just a reminder to those who feel sad for bioware coming to an end. Mass effect is still alive and will always be the best fucking game ever made!
and this community is amazing! Hugs to everyone.

Lightning in a bottle series man. For its few stumbles and MANY highs, I don't think the gaming industry will ever make something like the Mass Effect Trilogy ever again.
•
u/FenrirFromOhio 8h ago
Yeah, this is sad. I just hope ME can continue to live on through modding, fan projects, and the passion of its community. This franchise deserves to be remembered for years to come!

I’d love it if there was a large enough rallying cry that it did something, but I highly doubt it. The golden age of gaming is over. The foreseeable future of 99% AAA games will be painfully “play it safe” corporate templates of games with AI slop worming its way in there as well.

I hope you’re right, but EA seems to be swimming in incompetence. They hoard IPs, and selling out to Saudi Arabia was a sign they’re just piss poor businessmen.

Do we know if the live action Amazon series is still happening or is effected by this?
•
u/mehelponow 7h ago
You can take this with a grain of salt, but I work in TV/Film and I've heard from people I've worked with that development on the Mass Effect project has been stalled for the past few months.
•
u/JupitersClock 7h ago
It's dead fs
I'm sure it's something that gets revisited in a few years but you have to think about these companies don't want another expensive project. I don't know how you could make a Mass Effect show and it not cost $50 million+
Maybe you could get away with doing a spin-off show taking place on the Citadel but if you try to recreate the Shepard story it's going to be an expensive endeavor. I think that has been the heart of the issue with trying to get a live action project going. A movie ends up gutting most of the story, TV could get close but again your cutting a significant amount out.
I think the first contact war would be an incredible setup for the live action universe.

I mean, Amazon isn't above throwing crazy money at TV shows. But the writing was on the wall that there won't be a new game soon and the last entry in the series more or less flopped. Mass Effect is 20 years old soon, and as a game feanchise it just didn't stick around, despite its huge initial popularity.
•
u/JupitersClock 6h ago
True but Mass Effect will be turning 20 like you said so probably less inclined to give a big budget on something that only a fraction of people are going to stream.
It's going to take a big name who loves the universe to come to a studio with a clear direction. Almost a passion project. Until then the franchise is just going to collect dust.

For sure. Mass Effect with always be something incredibly special and is still with us. It just hurts a lot that the creator of something so magnificent and so important to me and something that helped form who I am as a person is now gone for absolutely no good reason. Time to start another trilogy playthrough. Not kidding, it's gonna be hard to play through the tears.

I almost quit the first game, because either was janky af, I was about 2 hours in. And somebody from this very community advised that it gets better. And I'm so grateful they told me that.
At the end of the 3rd game (L.E.) Iimmediately wanted another run. Im about halfway though #2 now.
Whoever you are, thank you. The best trilogy to date, imho.

This. The news is bittersweet actually, at least i know the whole story ended with Liara and Shep retiring and starting a family.
•
u/Underkiing 8h ago
It's probably just copium at this point but maybe some of the devs will get together for a spiritual successor.
•

the community? yes, the greatest video game trilogy? yes i will forever replay those games, my kids one day will heck i will even make my grandkids play them 40 years from now, this franchise should never be forgotten
•
u/Plazmer55 8h ago
I only played the first game and loved it, lately thought of jumping back into the series to play the rest only to find these sad news 💔 thankful for still having a lot to play, but it still hurts
•
u/ElMike420 8h ago
I was replaying after like 3 years rn, thinking about what the new game would look like and to get a refresh on the choices😫
This news gives will give the ending an even more bitter taste, we will not get the continuation in a long time:(

some company or studio is going to make a new mass effect game im sure of it. i just hope they take all the good things from the space themed games that have came out or is coming out and roll it into one and put it in mass effect. i mean it might take a long time but it would rival almost any game. i just hope that whoever gets it will treat it with respect

u/Raaaaandyyyy 8h ago
If hope of a buyout of the ip comes and goes, I hope someone comes and tells us what all those hints were gonna be and who the protagonist was gonna be. Maybe somebody can mod Andromeda into it lol
•
u/Spicyboio 7h ago
This is what I'm doing, just appreciating the community and fandom Mass Effect created, I'll forever love this series
•
u/Ok_Cartoonist_5554 7h ago
I’m always thrilled by new people discovering Mass Effect for the first time, reminds me of when I was a new fan
•
u/samoorai 4h ago
The only thing I want from this IP is the Legendary Collection being released on the Switch 2, so I can play it when on work trips. I've given up on literally anything else.
•
•
u/MegaManLegendsFan 8h ago
i have no doubt there will be a 4 as well. we dont live in an age where a popular money making i.p just goes away. it only changes hands.
•
u/LKHAN_Missing_Ninth 8h ago
Actually EA has a track record of hording i.p's and doing fuck all with them
•
•
u/Graphica-Danger 8h ago
I'm not so sure this time. Mass Effect is not only valuable but they've got a lot of debt now. But if it does happen, it won't be overnight.
•
u/ElMike420 8h ago
ME4 will be made as a mod in ME3 that’s my wish, I don’t know shit about modding btw
•
u/ElevatorHelpful5739 3h ago
Just google EA dead IPs, they are the king of killing of good franchises
•
u/LostInTheVoid_ 7h ago edited 7h ago
We actually do. Game IPs with successful past instalments go on hiatus fairly regularly. There's a huge number of very popular* game series from the 1990s-2000s that are either in hiatus or were on a very long hiatus before a reboot or next instalment ever happened.
EA is already sitting on a bunch of older IPS that were pretty successful in their day. They'll absolutely do the same for ME. It's more rare for IP to be sold. I would not be shocked if ME is on a hiatus from this point for 10+ years.
•
u/MegaManLegendsFan 7h ago
well when it comes out you can like...argue with me then i guess XD i just think your wrong.
•
u/LostInTheVoid_ 7h ago
Argue? It's just a discussion mate. I'm just basing my stance on industry standards and particularly EA's past standards when it kills off a studio and does nothing with the studios IPs for 10+ years or more.

I just wish I had the resources to make even a non canon fan game, so I could see the stories I hoped to see come to life and see the angara interacting in the Mw and etc.
I’m glad the mods still exist and we can enjoy the trilogy in so many ways but there are so many stories that feel untold

Andromeda was one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. It came at a time where I had just moved somewhere totally unfamiliar to me, so it felt right at home and the gameplay was so much fun. This makes me so sad that I might never see those characters again :(

New goal: save up money to buy bioware
