Definitely one of the 3 reasons. They had 3 back to back flops. Mass effect 5 was a pipe dream - Hail Mary. Edit to add: Veilguard was probably the best received and reviewed game they released after inquisition as well, shocking enough to find from my google searches.
Andromeda was boring, Anthem wasn't played by anyone, but Veilguard was abhorrent. An absolute travesty of an entry in the DA series. It was not at all well received, outside of people who weren't fans of the series.
It may have felt like a majority, but the rage was only by a minority of players/customers. To begin with, fans are just a subset of the greater purchasing cohort. And of the fan cohort, only a subset of those were "enraged." Many more people were just disappointed, and many casuals didn't know anything about the previous games and just thought it was a fairly good and polished fantasy game with fun elements, and that was the extent of their consideration. So I'm not that surprised that DAV is somehow the best received out of 3 poorly-received games.
"On Metacritic, critic scores for these BioWare games vary by platform: Anthem holds an average of 54–65 (PC: 59, PS4: 54, Xbox One: 65); Mass Effect: Andromeda ranges from 71–76 (PC: 72, PS4: 71, Xbox One: 76); and Dragon Age: The Veilguard sits around 76–85 (PC: 76, PS5: 82, Xbox Series X: 85)."
I know bro, it's pretty fucking crazy. Even I didn't believe it until looking it up, and it's definitely not the order I would rank those games in.
I mean... following up on Andromeda with Anthem and then Veilguard could only have one real conclusion. Veilguard looks like it only made a third of the money they needed to to break even. On a $250 million budget... $166 million in losses is more than enough to kill most studios.
