I can see your point, however, considering the entire state of the industry, I believe EA would have made this move even without being bought

Yeah, Bioware had been struggling with their games for over a decade. It's been a known possibility for a while now.

I don't know. The reason why they closed it was the cost of keeping the studio running. If BW was willing to use GenAI they could have kept it open, and run it on a skeleton crew, using GenAI to create the game

Bioware was probably on the cutting block before private equity even thought about buying EA. Nothing but failures for a decade.

Still, it sucks.

Those people are in those positions because they're delivering the results that the PE investors want: layoffs and gutting the company for parts.

My previous employer was amazing until PE bought them. Like the ceo bossman would leave voice mails for us telling us on how awesome we are. And every new customer signup, he’d email everyone on how awesome it is.

After the PE buyout… no more voicemails. No more ‘you’re awesome’. It turned into “we gotta pump our sales numbers up guys”.
