MASS EFFECT 2 Holy crap, I did not expect both Paragon/Renegade options to go this hard

First three are the Renegade interrupt, last three are the paragon (and a bonus slide in-between for Liara's side eye).

If you saved the Ascension, the Paragon interrupt is about sacrificing Alliance soldiers to save it, so equally pretty hard IMO

And Liara rolling her eyes is hilarious every time lol

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

I had to double check online, and every variation of it is badass. "I killed the Rachni Queen/I sacrificed human lives to save the Ascension" all of it goes hard as fuck.

The Liara eyeroll got me, I was just going "You do realize Liara is right there" and it just pans to her rolling her eyes. 10/10 DLC

I took Miranda with me, and she just stood there looking like Slingblade in the background of every cutscene. I loved it.

My favorite "irrelevant second squadmate's reaction" was on Tali's loyalty mission. I took Miranda, and she had absolutely nothing to say throughout the whole thing - which is pretty standard for ME2 loyalty missions. However, once it came to the final conversation with the Admirals, she just... sits down. Not standing beside you, not even sitting on a proper seat - no, she sits down on top of the stairs in that cute "hugging her knees" pose that I don't remember seeing anywhere else. It only happens on a blurry background, so it's easy to miss, but it does happen. For some reason, I found that hilarious. My headcanon is that she just... doesn't care. She knows that Quarians messed with the wrong Captain here. She knows what is about to happen, and she knows there's absolutely no help required from her. So she just sits down and enjoys the show as my Renegade Shepard shouts down the Admiralty Board.

All companions do that pose! my favorite is when Legion does it lol

"I'm just here to observe. Carry on!"

•

u/jasegro 8h ago

Miranda rocking up to watch Shepherd tear the admiralty board a new one like

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

I can't even begin to imagine which squadmate would be funniest in the background at this point. Miranda's outfit looks hilarious in allot of cutscenes

•

u/Cliffooood 9h ago

Legion is up there, especially given how the rest of the mission is with him on board, seeing him sat at the back like that is hilarious.

But now that I think about it, I bet Grunt would be top tier.

Bringing Legion onto both Tali's recruitment and loyalty missions is very entertaining.

•

u/Loczx 6h ago

I've missed the opportunity to bring him to the recruitment, but I'm about to try it on the loyalty!

Fried fishdog mmmhhhmmm

“Hanging out in the engine room, mmmhmmm.”

The Paragon one is also so great because we know Shepard is absolutely bluffing. A Paragon Shepard would never purposely harm the hostage. But this shows exactly why Shepard can clean out Kenneth and Gabby at poker, lol.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

I feel like Paragon and Renegade Shepard both do exist within Shepard in a way, even if your Shep is fully Paragon/Renegade in the sense that they're both variations of they're personality. This dialogue also phrases it very well, Paragon Shep is the charismatic 'good' guy, but he is technically also someone who did cause a few messes along the way which I love

•

u/Poonchow 22m ago

Yes, I've always maintained that Shepard's "personality" - as much as a player insert they are - basically boils down to these two extremes.

In every situation Shepard has both Paragon and Renegade thoughts / decisions going through their head at any given time.

I blame the Beacon on Eden Prime. It turned Shepard into something a schizo lol. Or more seriously, the Beacon is trying to interface with a Prothean so it sort of "shoved" some Prothean qualities onto Shepard. We're asleep for at least 15 hours after that mission, which is eons in military terms.

•

u/SprinklesPresent8602 9h ago

Ah shiiit Bros goated

•

u/Hinaloth 2h ago

Paragon Shep would shoot through the hostage if needed, making sure the wound on them is non-lethal.

Also that hostage covers nothing, that shot is still wide open.

•

u/sarcasticd0nkey 10h ago

Liara: "Babe, what the fuck?"

•

u/morbid333 10h ago

Tali: "First time?"

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Shep does the same with Tali?

•

u/sarcasticd0nkey 9h ago

On Tuchunka Shep can call the injured krogan scout as weak as a quarian

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Damn, Shepard ain't racist, they throw hands at everyone apparently

•

u/Poonchow 21m ago

Equal opportunity hater

•

u/Smitejr 8h ago

"I'm standing right here!" -tali

•

u/CortaNalgas 9h ago

You can take her on Mordin's loyalty mission, where Shepard can tell the captured Urdnot Scout that he's whining like a Quarian with a tummyache: "Shephard, I'm standing right here."

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Peak, I haven't run his loyalty yet, now I gotta try it

•

u/morbid333 9h ago

On Mordin's loyalty mission with that Krogan scout. The renegade option is to goad and provoke him, saying something like he sounds like a Quarian with a tummy ache. Then if Tali's in the squad she says something like "I'm right here."

•

u/Fitzftw7 9h ago

That’s the charm option, actually. Intimidate has you compare him to a Vorcha.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

I haven't even run his loyalty mission yet in this playthrough, damn now I gotta try it thank you!

•

u/Garlador 9h ago

Even better that at this point I was romancing her.

•

u/Hopeful-Occasion2299 8h ago

I mean, doesn't she get a terrible infection just by making out? It was just facts

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Right before it is Liara explaining what "Azure" is slang for on the Asari body, then Shepard just straight up whips this out.

•

u/Eastern_Fig_3161 10h ago

Last time i was farming renegade points and only the red dialogue option was available while the blue one was not. Needless to say, i had to shoot the hostage so as to not insult my wife with the reneg dialogue.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Honestly, I'm thankful I'm playing on PC, the mod that changes Paragon/Renegade check to the sum of both has made me have way more fun with going either way without necessarily hurting the entire playthrough

•

u/Alarming-Put-9003 10h ago

God Lair of the Shadowbroker is so peak.

•

u/c4gam1ng 10h ago

If only your second squad mate had a single line of dialogue. Especially someone like Garrus or Tali who were crew mates with Liara in ME1.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

I noticed that half way through, I was rolling with my original guys from ME1 (Garrus and Tali) but none of them even said a word to Liara which I found odd, but I guess that's just DLC things.

•

u/Alarming-Put-9003 9h ago

It is super annoying. And definitely something 3 does better over 2.

I’m a Shepard/Liara shipper through and through so this DLC hits like crack for me. But even outside of that the story and gameplay are some of the best the trilogy has to offer.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

I was originally a Shep/Liara fan! This playthrough I want to try out Tali, but Liara is making it damn hard honestly.

And I absolutely agree. It's a noticeable step up in quality imo

•

u/N7Templar Renegade 9h ago

Yeah I figured it was just too much for them to get every VA back for the dlc.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Fair, but a bit sad honestly

•

u/KTM_2813 9h ago

This is a bit of a recurring thing with ME2 DLC, something they did a much better job of with ME3 DLC.

•

u/aSensibleUsername 9h ago

Aye, the second squadmate being mute third wheel on most of the loyalty and dlc missions was a shame, considering how big the squad roster is athe potential for dialogue.

•

u/Heather_Chandelure 6h ago

Technically it was also a thing with ME1 DLC, though the nature of that games DLC missions made it not much of an issue there.

•

u/Fitzftw7 9h ago

Or Legion who’s barely in the game.

•

u/L34dP1LL 7h ago

That's why Sur'Kesh is one of my favorite missions. Liara and Garrus as squaddies, and Wrex over the comms was banter galore.

•

u/THEBLOODYGAVEL 7h ago

"Could've sworn he was muttering 'T'Soni' the whole time"

Brillant.

•

u/c4gam1ng 7h ago

“Not funny!” >:(

•

u/Ivory_Lake 6h ago

bringing Garrus and watching him get owned by a desk in the boss fight, is one of the unintentionally funniest moments in the franchise.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

I did not expect it to be this good. The DLC characters are nice but a bit barebones outside of their quests (atleast conversation wise), and Firewalker was a bit meh, gave me Mako flashbacks. But this was unexpectedly really good. Dialogue reminds me of the Citadel DLC in 3

•

u/Jerry2die4 9h ago

"yeah, but I meant where is it on the body..." "So did I..."

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Grabbed a screenshot of that right before, did not expect it, cracked me up

•

u/bluedeer10 9h ago

You missed the best one:

"You're forgetting something, Vasir?. I'm a Spectre too". <shoots the hostage in the arm and therefore Vasir>

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

God damn, Paragon/Renegade kidnapped me, I didn't even check the regular responses

•

u/oops_I_have_h1n1 7h ago

This is my favorite option too. No bluffing, no tricks, just a Spectre showing you how he gets the job done.

•

u/wakandacoconut 9h ago

Shepard talking shit abt quarians in front of tali is also funny.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Just found out from replies here he does it, can't lie made me crack up

•

u/Arrynek 9h ago

Goddamn I love these games...

Fine! I will play them again. You won!

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

If you're on PC, I heavily recommend grabbing some mods for a replay! They've streamlined the experience so much for me

•

u/Arrynek 9h ago

GPT Astra is currently controlling my computer and installing all recommended visual mods.

Never used any before. So, curious to see what it is like.

•

u/Loczx 6h ago

I would say don't go TOO overboard, as some things can get buggy. Can't speak for ME3 yet, ME2 has been relatively stable except for a crash at the start (and having to remove some modes like combat evasion because it kept sending squaddies out of cover), but ME1 had consistent random crashes for reasons I couldn't figure out, so I just finished the game with them.

•

u/HomeMedium1659 9h ago

Meanwhile, I just shot the hostage. The words just get in the way. Why talk about it instead of just doing it.

•

u/Loczx 9h ago

Honestly, I think Mass Effect in general has trained me to always try the Paragon/Renegade choices because they're always pretty entertaining

•

u/Living_College9657 9h ago

I loved this fight as a Vanguard.

•

u/Loczx 6h ago

My adept Shepard was running for his life, but we managed to squeeze it

•

u/Give_me_kerosene 6h ago

Ngl as a Renegade for life player some of those Paragon options got me respecting y'all a lot more. Like cold af

•

u/Loczx 6h ago

Paragon is usually the voice of reason, but occasionally they straight up cut the bullshit and it's always fun to see

•

u/Blitzkrieg1210 Shepard 8h ago

This is exactly how every dialogue choice should be, NO MORE BLAND DIALOGUE CHOICES!

•

u/Loczx 6h ago

Honestly, most renegade/paragon choices have been bangers, but these especially made me go damn

•

u/Empyrean_04 8h ago

Shepard? I thought you died?

I got better

Favorite line right there

•

u/Interesting-Aioli723 8h ago

As long as things are done I suppose

•

u/2006Internetghost 9h ago

I love how in 3 you can do either no matter who you are

•

u/Loczx 6h ago

Yeah I had to grab a mod that makes either check the sum of both values, has made the replay immensely more enjoyable over the original system

•

u/kayl_the_red 1h ago

I love the Renegade Interrupt. It's almost the same as telling her to lay down because she doesn't even have a nametag.

•

u/Xilizhra 9h ago

Renegade Shepard is such a piece of trash.

•

u/Loczx 6h ago

I disagree. Generally some choices are questionable, but this one was clearly a taunt to distract someone holding a hostage

•

u/TapOriginal4428 8h ago

Sorry, that's not how you spell "based"

•

u/Xilizhra 7h ago

That line is just a speciesism and misogyny bingo.
