Reminder: Please report posts that are not jokes/memes/humorous

Hey folks, just a reminder from your sub founder and moderator: please make sure to hit the 'report' button on posts that don't fit the subreddit (usually because they are not memes or in any way humorous).

People get confused all the time and post promotional content or help posts here, which isn't what the subreddit is for. I remove them whenever I see them, but you can help by making the sub stay on-topic by reporting content that doesn't fit, so it gets auto-removed even if I can't get to it right away.

Downvoting, or informing the OP in the comments that they're in the wrong place is of course fine too, but since we don't get a lot of posts every day, downvoting alone doesn't necessarily stop the misplaced posts from showing up in other users' feeds.

Thank you very much!!

From “simple 3D virtual page” to debugging urinal cake degradation and sink overflow physics. The scope never stops creeping.

The original plan was basically:

“It’ll just be a lightweight 3D virtual space. Mostly visual. then i thought, MaybeI will add a basic bathroom for atmosphere.”
... 16 hours later...

A single wooden box used to crash my whole game...

Two years ago, one wooden box crashed my game, two years later things are falling apart on purpose.

Thought it was quite funny way how it crashed back then, so I decided to record it with the thought that maybe some day I might get the chance to post it and today is the very first time I post it anywhere.

I came up with the idea of making all my packs completely free but when you want the original creative files (.aseprite for example) you will need to pay a little. What do you guys think?

We are really happy to finally announce our game, Rotten Crown! We are a small indie team of three, and we've been working incredibly hard to make something truly unique for you guys.

If you want to be among the first to try it, we are hosting a free public playtest at the end of November. We’d love to see you there!

Im a Game Dev Bum that Gets these comments frequently

Hey indie game devs! I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets these kinds of comments on their indie games across Reddit 😭

My game, Twilight Tavern, has been slowly growing in wishlists (daydreaming), and along the way, I've received my large fair share of unhinged criticism from the occasional reddit asshole LMAO.

But jokes aside, I was wondering if other game devs also feel the weight of that negativity bias? It's kind of weird. On YouTube, TikTok, X, and Instagram Threads, I don't receive nearly as much hate as I do on reddit.

It's usually something along the lines of: "your game's terrible" or "your game is just bad, no amount of work will save it" or "do you actually think people would want to play this?" blah blah blah. You know what I mean💀

And don't get me wrong, constructive criticism is genuinely helpful ! But there's a difference between giving feedback and just shitting on someone's work LMAO.

Anyway, I was wondering who else feels that weight sometimes? Especially when working on a game for so long and putting so much effort into it.

surely I'm not the only one

Help us name the gum vacuum weapon we’re working on for MegaGum!

Hey everyone!

We’re the team behind MegaGum, a 3D platformer where you play as Uja and use gum powers to explore a strange factory. We’re working on a weapon that still needs a name, and we could use your help!

The idea is that you don’t start with any ammo. Instead, you use its vacuum function to suck up gum from the environment, catch incoming projectiles, or swallow Gummies. Everything you collect fills a tank, which you can empty in a single blast. The fuller it gets, the harder it hits and the further it reaches.

There’s a little choice involved with enemies, too: keep a Gummy trapped long enough and it becomes ammo, or spit it back out at another enemy before it’s fully absorbed.

We’re also using the vacuum for exploration and puzzles. It can clear gum off hidden paths, move objects around, and carry giant bubblegums that you throw into hoops to activate mechanisms.

So that’s what it does. Now we need to figure out what to call the thing 😅

These are the three names we’re considering:

Chew'n'Spew 3000

Gum-B-Gone

VaGuum

Which one feels right to you? Vote in the poll, and feel free to share your reasoning in the comments. It’d be useful to hear how these sound to people outside the team!
