Discussion New rule: No AI of any kind going forward

2.5k Upvotes

AI generated texts and images were always removed whenever they were reported to me, but now it is an official rule.

No advocating for AI usage, no using AI/ChatGPT to generate texts for posts, no AI calorie tracking apps or fasting timers.

No. AI.

Seeking Advice Fat storage and emotions

Those of you that put on body fat as armour - aka body fat due to going through emotional times/times of distress etc. Did you find that losing the body fat you are dealing with all sorts of emotions? I have heard this before but have never overtly experienced it. I feel this is worse for sensitive people ....

What were your experiences?
Did you have any ways of coping besides just feeling the feels? etc?

Discussion First week down

I’ve been doing IF, but not being mindful with what I was eating or going to the gym. This past week I started taking it seriously again by eating healthy foods, cutting out sweets and junk and going back to the gym. I lost 2.5 pounds since last week. I was hoping it would have been more, but I’m getting my period in a couple of days (sorry if tmi) so I’m going to blame that.

Hubby and I are going to great wolf lodge next month for our anniversary and I’m hoping to get down between 180-185 by the time we go so that means losing 9-14 pounds in 4 weeks. Let’s see what happens!

Seeking Advice Pushing past 18:6?

Hello everyone! I'm doing 18:6 everyday and plan on adding in a 24hr fast once a week. This is about a month into my serious effort at IF. I try to move my body everyday for about 30 minutes with walking in place exercises that include upper body movements. Specifically, I'm doing the yes2next HIIT workouts on youtube, with or without weights.

My question is, I'm not sure if I can push my fasting period any longer than 18 hours. For me, this often does end up being OMAD with a protein-rich snack, 24hr fast excluded. It's also difficult to get in my recommended 100g or protein a day. I'm usually hitting just over 50g.

Should I see how it goes with adding in 24hr fast once a week, or just increase the amount of exercise? For instance, 30 min a day of moderate movement in addition to more challenging exercises a few times a week?

Thanks in advance!

Tips, Tricks, Advice Just a hair over a pound away from officially checking out of the two-hundred club.

Prolonged fasts are magic. I’m currently at 36 hours strict fast (black coffee, black espresso, unsweetened tea, Himalayan salt). Targeting 43 or more. On Sunday I ate a huge amount of food. I won’t go into it because it might deter people’s fast. The day was even a slight caloric surplus (we made one of my favorite meals). Whenever I eat this much, I think to myself… a prolonged fast makes sense… I won’t be too hungry the next day.

This morning, 36 hours later, I’m at one of my lowest weights and finally just a hair away from pushing out of the 200 club. I know there’s a loss of water weight… but this is close to a pound lower than when I last did a 43 hour fast.

I know people not too familiar with prolonged fasts might think it’s just caloric restriction… but we’re talking about spending a long time in a fat burning state… targeting stored fat (adipose tissue). The body is impressive when you push it!

Progress Pic I did it. After a year. 240-170

Post image
4.4k Upvotes

245 pic is in March of 2023. I was still drinking and a couch potato.

170 pic is two weeks ago.

In Jan 2025 I was invited by Wounded Warrior Project to go on a bike ride from Miami to Key West. After the ride, I became hooked on riding in general and group rides.

Came back home and found a bunch of groups to ride with.

Started averaging 100 miles a week by that summer and did my first century ride.

When I first started, I could barely sit on the bike seat for more than 5 minutes.

By Jan of this year I was at 185 and couldn’t drop it. So in May/June I started fasting and staying in a calorie deficit. I was about to drop the last 15lbs.

I’m thinking I’ll go to 165 and then work back up from there with weight training.

What worked, fasting, OMAD, calorie deficits, 150+g of protein daily.

What didn’t work, thinking that the cycling alone was enough to not change my eating habits.

EDIT:
I’m 5’8

Seeking Advice 72 hour fast - first time

35 M attempted my first 72 hour fast. I ended up breaking it, with an apple, this morning at 57 hours.

I wasn’t feeling great at 3am. Couldn’t sleep and felt sick. It felt like the safe thing to do to quickly get some electrolytes in me. I’m feeling back to how I felt during the first 48hours and now I am feeling better.

My question, do continue fasting until by 72hr mark 6:30pm? Or call it and blend my diet back into a 16:8 fast.

At my heaviest post 2nd pregnancy was roughly 15st and currently weight 11.4 stone after introducing intermittent fasting for the last year with be addition of getting my steps in and gym 2-4 times a week, depending on my schedule. I’m considering upping my protein intake to 100-150 grams a day, any further suggestions? My ideal weight would be 10 st, so still have a way to go 💖

Seeking Advice What are your triggers?

For those who experienced a slip (off the wagon) and/or relapsed into full unhealthy eating what were your triggers.

rejection? shame? anger? bullying? fatigue? physical pain? judgement?
guilt?

AND .....what do you do NOW when those feelings return. like if someone dropped a microphone into your head , what would your internal self talk sound like?

Shoutout to Fasting Center and all the other free fasting trackers that don't charge for basic features like fast tracking, data storage, fasting history, color customization, or languages!

I hope other apps follow their example and stop charging for these simple features!

P.S. If you use a great free app, please mention it in the comments. So they all get the attention they deserve 😄

Seeking Advice Renpho body measuring scale

So I've decided to invest in the scale to better track muscle loss/fat loss thru the fasts.

Has anybody else used or invested in these?

What are your thoughts and experiences

It took me like 20 times to get it to properly measure me initially...

Newbie Question How often do you weigh yourself?

Hello everyone! I'm new to intermittent fasting, just started this summer, and I'm feeling so much better already!

My scale wasn't working for a while, so I was just going by photo comparison and how I felt in my body to gauge if I was making any progress. I got my scale working properly now and I'm wondering how often to weigh myself to keep my motivation up.

I know consistency is key. It's easier for me to weigh myself during my fast, first thing in the morning. I worry that if I weigh every day and see the fluctuation, I'll feel that I'm not making progress. Would once a week be too far in between? What has been your experience with checking the scale and motivation to keep going?

Edit: Thank you to everyone for answering! It's a lot more nuanced than I thought. These are all great things to keep in mind during a weight loss journey

Discussion Accountability Post - W4 of IF

Starting week 4 so doing my accountability post. I was a little more 'liberal' (calorie wise) on my non-fasting days but I also added a little more exercise/activity to them as well. I'm kind of hoping that my average weight for this coming week ends up being sub-200, but regardless the trend continues in the right direction! For reference, I'm M47, 6'0" and starting weight was 210 and 200.6 this morning. I'm doing 5/2 with a 400ish calorie dinner on my fasting days.

Ended up being a 7k run and rest walk back home.
I swear taller people have lesser steps, it’s so hard to hit 10k.

Seeking Advice Help with Plateau

So I am 5'2 and weigh roughly 217. I follow 16:8 and last time I tried fasting, my body adjusted really quickly and I plateaued at 214 for like a week. I'm going to visit my long distance boyfriend in April and I want to lose weight but my life has just been so hellish lately. Losing my grandfather, moving, and going to a job I hate (I average about 6,000 steps every day.) How can I break past the plateau so I can have a more successful weight loss attempt and feel more confident when I see my boyfriend??

It has been some time since my last post so here's an update. After my holiday and gaining a bit, I picked it back up and now I'm getting close to the finish. It feels like it is going slower but the graph tells me a different story. I am at the point where I want to say OK this is good enough and it's getting harder to stay motivated.

Progress Pic Check-in week 3

Post image
16 Upvotes

Lost 1 lb this week, so down 6 lbs total. Glad I lost anything considering I had a stressful work week and slept poorly as a result. But still I managed to stick to my diet most days, except on Friday when I ate out. It was difficult to estimate my calories then but since it was Korean bbq I managed to eat mostly grilled meat and veggies, with some rice wine. I had a great time and at least it was all within my eating window so I decided not to break a sweat about it and went back to my routine the next day.

My overall take of this week: I should eat well but don’t need to force myself to finish my meal if I’m full some days. I’ll get to eat more another day and it will even out.

Also I’ve been feeling less pain and shortness of breath while walking so I’ve decided to walk a bigger round starting next week and see how it feels. I’ll try to go right after wake up while still fasting.

I’ve also noticed that I’m not that hungry at lunch anymore so I might expand my fast to 18:6 but I’ll see first how walking fasted affects my hunger. I don’t want to tweak too many things at once.

Seeking Advice 7 day fast, any tips?

I’m gonna start a 7 day fast I was wondering if anyone had any tips? I’ve been doing 18:6 for a while but I’d like to try something new. Also I’m doing water and black coffee. Sometimes if I drink water at the end of the day I get a little nauseous I’m wondering what everyone else does if you do longer period fasting?
