Friendly reminder from your mod team to simply be excellent to each other.

Hey pot heads, wait, that doesn’t sound right. Anyway, just wanted to give everyone a friendly reminder to be nice to each other. This isn’t a professional chef subreddit, and if you’re a pro chef and you’re here, be helpful. We’re all here to learn, and share, and admire. You can be critical. Constructive criticism is not only welcome, but often needed. BUT keep it constructive and friendly. Simply follow what Rule 4 says and “be excellent to each other”.

C8 Error every time I use the IP

• Upvotes

I'm getting the dreaded C8 error literally every time I use my (8-quart) IP to do anything other than make yogurt. I have tried everything from switching out the ring to deglazing multiple times to adding slightly more liquid to changing the pot (I only have two pots, one of which came with the IP and the other of which is identical) to taking the pot out and letting it sit for 10 minutes before cooking. It happens when I saute and when I don't saute. Am I just going to have to buy a new one? I wish I had just kept my original IP because this one has had problems almost from when I got it.

This is going to sound completely stupid (yes, I am a moron) but is this the showing the float valve in place? For some reason I thought there was a piece that stuck up above the lid a little. I haven't used it in a bit since it was washed and put away last time and now I am worried part of it is missing. For the life of me I can't find an image on Google of this model.

Is this crack something that’s dangerous?

I just bought this instant pot. I opened it on Monday (yesterday) and did the water test. I made dinner on Monday. I made dinner tonight (Tuesday). As I was going to clean my kitchen, I notice this crack on the handle/outer seal part. Upon further inspection, it looks like there was an impact to this handle, as there is a small dent where the handle connect to the pot.
I did not notice this when I opened it, but I could have missed it. I have not dropped it at all, so I’m guessing the fall happened when it was being shipped.
Is this crack something that is dangerous and that will prevent me from using this? The main inner pot is fine, and the removable pot is fine

Got damaged during a move (bag handles broke and the pot fell on cement). Is this okay to use? Note the lip is “pushed up”

New user issue

I've had the pot for a week, I've used it 3 times and I've noticed this stain, which looks like a scratch on the non-stick cover. Is it safe to use? How do I clean it?

Thank'you to all.

One Pot Entire Meals

Hey everyone!

I’m going to be away soon and taking my Instant Pot, which is essentially going to be my entire kitchen setup while I'm gone.

I'm looking for your absolute best go-to recipes for complete, all-in-one meals that fit a few strict criteria:

Zero vegetable chopping (I won't have a proper prep station or knife setup).

Uses ground meats, stew beef or diced chicken I can get in a grocery store.

Relies on frozen veggies, canned/tinned goods, and simple pantry staples.

Includes a built-in starch like rice, potatoes, or pasta.

What are your favorite foolproof recipes that won't trigger the dreaded burn notice and can be made start-to-finish right in the pot? Drop your best ideas below!

Steam valve keeps steaming

Hi everyone,

The steam valve keeps releasing steam, even if it’s on pressure. It’s not a little bit of steam but as if I’m releasing pressure after cooking.

I already cleaned all pieces and I also replaced the silicone ring.

What else can it be?

Instantpot Differences: SKU: 113-0043-01 vs 113-0044-01

I have the one on the left (113-0043-01), but I would like the rice cooker function on the right.

Does anyone know what exactly the rice/grain function does? Can I somehow replicate it on my own instantpot or should I buy the one on the right specifically for the rice function? Is it any good at making rice?

Rotten meat mold on my insta pot help

Hello, I left pork in a pressure cooker for 3 months outside the refrigerator. It wasn’t my fault, we left home urgently. I don’t know what to do, it’s rotten. I took it out of the house with gloves and a mask, but now I don’t know if I can use it again and I don’t know how to clean and disinfect it. Help me.

My IP has nonstick inner pot. Would pot-in-pot work for caramelized onion?

As per title. I have limited selection of appliances where I live, and wanted to buy from a local retailer, so I got a model with a non-stick inner pot.

Pot-in-pot rice comes out great. Would pot-in-pot be a solution for caramelized rice? Is it worth my while and money to buy a steel pot that fits just to try? Or can i use a springform cake pan :D

When I try making onions in the pot, it comes out quite soggy. I tried caramelizing on the stovetop, but it did not really do much, I just ended up with onion jam. It's honestly pretty good! But not what I was trying to make.

From Burn Warnings To Flood Warnings

Ok ok, That's tongue in cheek. But I managed to sort out my constant burn warnings, by making sure the sauce is thinner / more water etc.

But now.. My curry is far too thin!

Any tips? I am in the UK. Cornflour I always struggle using for some reason, gives a flour taste or I need to use loads to make it thick..

Any tips? Thickening granules maybe?

Does everyone have to thicken their stews and curries etc after?

Silicone replacement rings (3 qt) in any in person stores?

Edit - thanks to everyone for the help!

The official Instant Pot rings are going to take 4-6 weeks to arrive from Amazon, (I'm in the US!)!

Their own website does not carry them.

Have you ever seen the official replacement gaskets at any retailers? I've looked online but it's just showing me knock offs.

I want the official ring now bc mine not only failed but popped out of the metal bracing and made a loud, terrifying steam "exploding" sound and steam did come out! I unplugged immediately and when it was safe, I opened it. I saw the ring unseated so I assumed I had not been paying attention and reset it and turned it back on. IT HAPPENED AGAIN.

I've used my IPs for close to 10 years and I've never seen such a thing. There are no dents or damage to any of the metal, I'm pretty sure the ring is old and failed.

And yes, NOW I'm aware of how often you're supposed to replace the ring, I honestly didn't know all this time.

Thank you for your help! Idk how I'll love without my IP for that long.

Cooking small amounts of rice in 8 quart Instant Pot ?

Hey folks, my Phillips multi cooker is dying and I’m looking to replace with an instant pot. We’re a household of three and my Phillips multi cooker is a 6 L which has done the job today. 6 L variance of the pro are hard to come by in Australia so I’m thinking of getting the 8 L. The pot will be the primary way we cook Japanese rice amongst other things. Can anyone advise if cooking small amounts of rice (ie for 3 people) in the 8 L instant pot still gets good results please?

anyone do pot in pot rice over a curry? mine always comes out half crunchy

been trying to do rice in a little steel bowl on the trivet above a curry so theres only one pot to wash after. the curry turns out fine but the rice is crunchy on top and mushy at the bottom every single time.

I'm doing roughly 1:1 water, 12 mins high pressure then 10 natural release. he keeps saying just use the rice cooker like a normal person lol but I'm stubborn about it now.

what ratio and timing works for you, and do you cover the bowl with foil or leave it open?

Lost float valve silicone cap – Classic Mini 3.8L (EU), which replacement fits?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I lost the small silicone cap on the float valve of my Instant Pot Classic Mini 3.8L. The float valve is red, about 30 mm long, and the end where the cap sits is about 6 mm. The official cap is out of stock and I can’t find anything on Amazon specifically for Pot Classic Mini, only other models. Can anyone recommend a cap (Amazon or elsewhere) that fits this model?

Update: In case this information is useful to someone one day, I ordered the following set and the new cap fits! Didn’t test other parts though.

Air Fryer died

I bought a 4qt Instant Pot Air Fryer in November of 2022 and admit I use it a every day. I cooked a pork chop yesterday. It finished my program fine but, right afterwards, it died. When I say died I mean the front panel is black. I have tried it in several outlets that I know are working and it is definitely dead. I don't see any way to troubleshoot it and it is not on warrantee. Anyone know anything I can do? Should I just buy a new one like the one I have or is there a known serious problem with this unit? The space it must go in is limited and ordering another like it would fit.

Edit to change 1922 to 2022.

Steam release valve?

Thumbnail

I picked up an Instant Pot Duo Mini at the thrift store. The steam release valve is one without the knob, it’s just round with no arrow or indicator (it may be a replacement part).

How do I tell if it’s set to “venting” or “steaming,” and how do I release the pressure?

First time user

My husband and I just purchased our first instant pot (7.5qt Rio wide), as an effort to switch things up and expand on our weekly dinners.

One meal we love doing is boneless pork chops so we figured to try our new gadget with a tried and true.

I’m SURE I did something wrong so I figured I would post here and see the general consensus from folks with more experience.

Short and sweet of it, the chops were beyond dry and kinda bland.

Here were my steps. Lmk how you’d adjust or any additional recommendations-

  1. Pat dry and season 1” boneless pork chops
  2. Add oil to sauté setting > let it get hot > and sear on both sides for 5 mins each
  3. Deglaze with 1.5 cups chicken broth and scraped the bottom
  4. Added pork to trivet and cooked on meat setting high heat for 7 mins with a 10 min natural depressurization

Thanks!
