I’m to the point now where I just leave it on mute always, unless it’s someone clearly speaking I don’t even bother anymore.
19
u/LordWoffleII 25d ago
even if they're speaking I just turn subtitles on
17
u/Kelnozz 25d ago
bro I don’t know what it is but I don’t even like subtitles now lmao, I don’t like how they emphasize words by changing the colors and because they are 95% of the time AI subtitles it sometimes mistakes words that sound the same and messes up!!!
I fucking hate this weird ass timeline. Arghhh

True, when I hear that "FAHH!" garbage, I immediately close the video.
16

Jesus Christ, it can be the most awesome video ever, when the "FAHH" appears, it's garbage.

Worst goddamn sound effect. I think less of anyone who ruins videos with it.
5
u/General-Razzmatazz 24d ago
I love this video, watch it every time. But I prefer the original, the stolen pixels and shitty sounds lessen the experience.

Did the young guy assume it was going to be a light sparring ? Gramps was serious like the last round.
236
u/3Gilligans 25d ago
Younger guy is untrained, did nothing to defend himself. Just threw punches which is a big indicator of a first-timer.
6
u/xkoreotic 21d ago
Dude doesn't even know how to throw a proper punch. That was the biggest red flag. He's all ego.
100
u/CaptainZzZz 25d ago
iirc younger guy was getting his ego checked
253
u/Aliensinmypants 25d ago
Not really, young guy was an amateur boxer joking around with a former olympic boxer and clearly thought it was a fun spar and old dude was swinging heat

u/know_what_I_think 25d ago
No. The young guy was holding back because he was afraid he would kill grampa. Old man was thowing haymaykers and fighting like he was fighting for his life
14
u/MassaChef 25d ago
Could be. If that's the case then show off your defense and at least a tiny semblance of footwork. Then go straight for the neck and send the old timer to the shadow realm? Damn maybe he looks too much like my old PE coach..
9
u/anomalous_cowherd 25d ago
The young guy threw a hard punch before Gramps did. Not many after that though.

Whoever he is, unless i'm missing some serious context here, he's kind of an ass for going in for the kill before other dude found his feet. Did the young guy insult him or something? 'Cause it seems gramps forgot what sparring is.

To be fair, if the young guy took the fight seriously we would all be hating him to go hard on an elder, so... He was doomed from the beginning.
97
u/gsxdrifter1 25d ago
It’s why I’m terrified of geese. If they attack you and win. Humiliation. If they attack you and you win congrats big man you just beat up a bird.
It’s a lose lose.
7
u/GuestStarr 24d ago
You're right. Geese were used as guardians somewhen in the history. You wouldn't just casually sneak in the premises of a country house to steal something if it was guarded by a gang of guardian geese. You might try once but if you survived you wouldn't repeat the error. Even one goose would be enough, it'd wake up the dogs.. Not even joking.

Yup. It’s a no win situation. Either he beats up an old man or he loses to an old man. Neither one looks good.
I think he was going into it thinking it was a friendly spar not thinking the old man was trying to literally KO him.
This is probably the least bad outcome. He was caught off guard by some harder-than-expected punches and looked silly on the internet rather than to kill or seriously injure an old man.
27
u/CptAngelo 25d ago
This is the kind of sparring where you practice your evasion and defense, nobody wants to knock the old guy, but you dont want to be demolished by him either lol

8
u/Daft_Martian 25d ago
You are absolutely right. That could have ended pretty bad. Luckily he has some brains.

u/psych0ranger 24d ago
I think he actually did take it seriously. This video does its rounds every once In a while. The old dude is a retired pro. Even if he wasn't trying he already disrespected the old guy by trying to spar him. I think that's why he went hard
89
u/the_beefcako 25d ago
When I was 22 and in excellent shape, I was playing racquetball with some friends, and this old retired guy comes to watch. He asks if he can play a round, and we said, "Sure!"
This 65+ year old man proceeds to wipe the floor with us for half an hour. Skill > fitness in some cases.
34
u/bpivk 25d ago
And you probably stumbled on someone that used to play a lot. 😁
I tend to do that on archery events. I like to see if I still have it and to try their equipment. Of course no one knows that I used to be a national champion in my younger days. I just get funny looks afterwards.
It was not on purpose but I can't just say "hey can I try I used to be...". It's not important and it's in the past. But it's a good feeling to see if you still have it in you.
24
u/CptAngelo 25d ago
Ha, this reminds me of the "grandpa gaming" where an old dude is streaming his battlefield gameplay, and he is a really good sniper because he has military experience, my favourite comment from his chat is "they were playing, he was remembering"
8
u/sdrawkcabsemanympleh 24d ago
The old man played racquetball into his 50's. I know he did tournaments and all that when I was really young. Even in his 50's he would still regularly beat guys half his age. Quit because his knees bothered him, but still cleaning up. I still remember he had this nasty "kill shot" as he called it. I swear he could send a racquetball at light speed not even a foot off the ground to whatever spot he wanted.
7
u/the_beefcako 24d ago
Yes! That guy made me run back and forth the entire room until I was about to tap out. Then would send one of those shots to the other side at a foot up. Crazy.

I had nearly the opposite story. I was 20 and in excellent shape bussing tables at First Watch when an old dude who was eating asked if I had ever played racquetball. I wasn't sure if he was a creep, a millionaire, or just a chatty old dude but I hadn't played in years so I said sure. I crushed the old dude and he never invited me again. It did lead to an internship with a 3rd party though so that's cool.

Same. That was the point I'd go "oh, shit".
The lesson here is also never agree to this kind of fight. If you win against frail gramps, you look like an asshole. If you lose...

u/sachsrandy 24d ago
This was 1972 Italian Olympic welterweight boxer Ernesto Bergamasco. He was fighting a MMA fighter that was much more skilled that Jake Paul.
Tell me again the Tyson v Paul fight was legit.
4
u/captain_obvious_here 23d ago
I know pretty much nothing about boxing, and still felt the fight was an obvious fake one.
7
7
u/thecountnotthesaint 24d ago
It is always fascinating to watch an old man, frail and slow in every aspect, hit that weird level of familiarity that causes him to regain that speed and power of his youth, be it this boxing video, or I've seen a few with old WWII pilots and one with an elderly former F1 driver
7
u/RedneckRafter 23d ago
if you are ever smiling and giggly and the person you are facing is not smiling and not giggly, you are in for a world if hurt.
25
u/EpileptikRobot 25d ago
Lose lose scenario for the young guy. Either you beat up an old guy or lose to an old guy
82
u/Soft_Brush_1082 25d ago
Unless the young guy somehow offended the old one, the old guy looks like an AH here. If this is just a regular training sparring, he went in too hot and did not stop or slowed down when he should have.
21
u/oddmanout 25d ago
Yea. There’s no way the young guy would even attempt to punch as hard as the old guy was punching. He’d seriously injure him. Sending him to the mat at that age is potentially life altering.
15
u/savory_meats 25d ago
IIRC the young guy said he could beat anyone in the boxing club and the manager took him out.
18
u/SoulMute 25d ago
It doesn’t look like the younger guy knows how to box
27
u/Rogueshadow_32 25d ago
To be fair, just because gramps can throw a punch doesn’t mean he can take one. It’s not unreasonable to assume the younger fighter was worried he might cause some serious injuries if he actually fought back. Better to take the ass whooping and be the butt of a few jokes than risk killing someone over a bit of pride.
7
u/roadrunnuh 25d ago
Yeah, the old man has mother fuckin moves that's for sure, but if the young guy landed even one punch with matching intent the old man could have been in a very serious amount of trouble.
4
u/tiediesunrise 25d ago
Idk, throwing punches while younger dude is still getting up is pretty scummy and cheap
4
6
u/magical_midget 25d ago
This happens almost on all boxing gyms.
I saw it many times, a guy Comes talking shit, and the most unassuming old man that has been doing this all his life checks his ego.
It Is the ring, you get hurt, if you don’t like it, don’t get in. 🤷♂️
25
u/Soft_Brush_1082 25d ago
I do martial arts myself. Usually older experienced people are the best at regulating their speed/strength to win but not injure their opponent. I will take a sparring with our old guys over hothead newcomers any time. I will loose by I am sure that I won’t get injured.
This old guy was not regulating himself. If he was somehow gravely offended I can understand that. If it was regular sparring then he was an AH.

Realistically theres no winnig this situation. You either get rocked by a former boxing star, or you get branded as the guy who sent an old man to the hospital.

This is such a dumb decision. If he won, he's the guy who beat up an old man. If he lost, he's the guy who got beat up by an old man. He's losing no matter what.
3
u/oddmanout 25d ago
It looks like he thought it was a friendly spar. I’m guessing he thought they’d exchange a few punches and have a good time. I don’t think he expected that the old man was trying to KO him. That’s why he was punching soft in the beginning then just stopped when the old man went too far. He wasn’t about to knock out an old man in what he thought was a fun bout.

Suspect he might have been the coach or such at the club. I did read above he was an Olympic boxer.

There was an episode on family guy where Peter gave Stewie, the baby, steroids and he got really super jacked. Brian the dog, was trying to got downstairs, stewie wanted to fight. Brian was intimidated and scared. So stewie said, the first one is on me and punched himself in the nose.

IDK why you guys don't think the young guy took it serious, it looked like he was trying but sucked
2
u/LlaneroAzul 24d ago
Well first because he didn't really put much power into that jab he threw, it looked like the type of punch you use while sparring.
And second because if you're on a boxing gym you never expect someone to actually be throwing serious punches like that. There's absolutely no reason to be doing that, on a private ring in a gym you don't have medical personal around to assist and supervise. And you do need medical assistance if you get knocked out. They didn't even have any referee to stop the fight if needed (and it was needed).
The only situation in which you should be throwing those punches is in a professional fight. Otherwise you're just getting and giving brain damage in a situation where you're not safe and you're not even getting paid for.
Any respectable boxer and /or coach will tell you that you never ever use full force while sparring. That's just dumb. So yeah, if I were that guy I also wouldn't be expecting the old man to be throwing knockout punches.

Best version of karma I've ever witnessed was from an old boy like that.
We're stood outside a pub waiting for my Dad to pick me up by the taxi rank. 3 lads ask this old boy for a cigarette, he tells them he doesn't smoke. They get upset about it and start threatening him. He gives them 2 warnings to settle down, very calm and politely. One doesn't like and takes a swing, the old boy ducks the swing and BOP, down goes the first one. A second comes in with a swing, duck and BOP, down goes the second lad. The 3rd one just stands there frozen and the old boy like walks to his taxi as it pulls up and turns to the 3rd lad and says "when I was younger I'd have clocked you as well, I'm older now and know it's not worth it, get your mates home safe".
Turns out he was some Irish bare knuckle champion back in the day.
