Need Advice my 15 year old Luna passed away

my beloved Luna passed away last night suddenly after being by my side for the last 15 years - almost have my life. i gave her a bath 2 days before and she was totally fine. i had recently got her a warmer basking lamp to help her in her old age and I’m panicking that i cooked her. but the temp should have only been around 110-115 max in the basking spot based on temp gun and bulb specs.

also what have you all done to remember your iguanas? i’m thinking ab commissioning a portrait of us (see last image). anyone know any good iguana artists?

Need Advice Iguana housing/living conditions etc

Post image

(unsure if it's a male or female, I call it a he)

Hi all, my iguana is ~2 years old. I'm looking for some recommendations to improve his living conditions. I have him in a catio in my basement, it has plenty of space atm. He has a few branches and vines to climb around on, but not much for hiding within his heated areas. I have a uvb light, heat bulb, and 250w light/heat lamp. The uvb/heat/light bulb go off at night, leaving only the heat emitter bulb (no lights) at night. (My basement can get chilly so I'm sure it gets to like ~65 down there at night even with the emitter)

As you can see the hide I gave him is basically useless for his size though. I put his drinking water in a small dish and have a cat litter box in the bottom for his bathroom.

I'm looking for recommendations or general communications about ways I can improve his housing, ideally cheap/diy/ affordable additions. I don't have thousands to spend.

Before anyone asks. He's temperament isn't ideal, he's not outwardly super mean. He's agitated when I try to get him from his cage, but usually just runs vs tail whipping or biting. Once he's out he's more keen to flee and get high.

He's definitely not nice imo.

I don't get him out enough due to his temperament, my work schedule, and his having to poop on stuff every time he steps out lol

In the summer I have a windowed plant/sun room type thing I let him hang out in.

Recommendations to improve his life/living/temperament etc appreciated!!!

Tyson is a wild marine iguana who treats our Marine Iguana sanctuary at Caleta Iguana (Isabela Island, Galápagos) like a beach club. Nobody keeps him there. He just likes the sun, the view, and being the center of attention. He comes and goes as he pleases, and he has never once asked if we were ready before jumping into a photo.

He's a Marine Iguana star , it's his call. 🦎

This is now twice this guy has stopped by when on my lunch break. I think we should name him!

Update: he came back again today, this makes three days in a row. I think i might buy him some fruit. I also thinking of calling him Bruce.

Humor Whipped twice while putting dinner, but glad he likes it.

I’ve had him for less than a week. He’s extremely scared of me. Lately he’s been whipping me while I put his dinner. Thankfully he’s been eating/drinking/pooping well… just doesn’t want to be approached much.

Info Is it a good idea to give my iguana eggshells in powder form? (Obviously, they should be disinfected, cleaned, and finely ground.)

Discussion Menace of a critter!

So...someone decided to be an absolute star and drop his/her tail!

Not the 4-5 month check in I wanted to show.

But here it is none the less, it happens. Thankfully it wasn't my mistake of grabbing the tail.

Fully his/her decision to fly to the back of the enclosure and squiggle through logs. I have adjusted the basking sticks more to avoid any further injuries.

I've owned iguanas for YEARS. This is the first time I've had a juvie throw a tail. Wild caught or captive bred!

Blue is a WC, NO: I DO NOT CONDONE TAKING ANIMALS FROM THE WILD. Blue was a home depot hitchhiker.

Just showing the not so cute side of green iguana ownership. You do get your hard headed, "mean" critters every now and then. Don't blame them, they're just animals! Nothing mean about em. Frustrating...yes, absolutely. But you gotta love and respect them none the less!

P.S. I'm more upset that his/her tail section was freshly shed too! 😭

Need Advice Main meal

Guys, is it normal for my iguana to want to eat before going to sleep? (I know they need a very high temperature after eating) And at night the temperature is 22-23 degrees. Then is it normal that after a large meal he makes strange noises with his throat and mouth as if he were swallowing something and takes louder audible breaths? Please answer me....

Need Advice First time iguana buyer.

I’ve always loved iguanas. Everything about them, from their appearance to their personalities, has always fascinated me. I genuinely think they’re some of the most beautiful creatures out there. Recently, I finally had the opportunity to get one of my own! His name is Trinidad (I’m assuming he’s a male for now), and I’ve been trying my best to give him a good home.
The same day I bought him, I went ahead and purchased everything I thought he’d need. I got him a 75-gallon aquarium to use while he’s still small, with plans to eventually move him into a much larger 6’ x 6’ enclosure as he grows. I also bought a heat lamp, UV lamp, bedding, a nice climbing log, rocks, and thermometers/hygrometers to monitor his temperature and humidity. However, there’s one thing I’ve been struggling with, and that’s getting him to eat consistently. He doesn’t seem interested in eating every day. Instead, he usually eats every other day. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m around when I put his food in, if I’m giving him too much food at once, or if he’s still adjusting to his new environment. I’ve tried offering him collard greens and turnip greens, but he doesn’t seem interested in either. He will eat squash and zucchini, though, and he’s eaten some red bell pepper. He doesn’t seem particularly interested in fruit, either. I’m trying to figure out if this is normal behavior for a young iguana or if there’s something I need to change about his setup, feeding routine, or diet. I’m completely new to owning iguanas, and while I’ve been doing my research, I know there’s still a lot I need to learn. I really want to do right by Trinidad and make sure he grows up healthy and happy.

For those of you who have raised iguanas, especially from a young age, what advice would you give me? Is eating every other day normal while they’re adjusting, or should I be concerned?
Any advice or constructive criticism is genuinely appreciated. I’m here to learn and give this guy the best life I possibly can!
