Vernon is the only breadwinner yet he’s able to buy a good house, a fairly expensive car, Dudley 36 (later 38) birthday presents none of which seem to have been cheap and it’s implied that he’s able to give him a similar amount every year, send his son to a private school, another car that was apparently impressive enough to try and show off to the neighbours, a holiday home in Majorca from one big client, a new tv for Dudley as a welcome home present and boxing lessons for Dudley long enough for him to lose all his fat and replace it as well as becoming a local junior champion.
Unless she has a job when Dudley’s at school, Petunia doesn’t work so all her stuff if bought by Vernon and because of the type of person she is it’s probably not cheap.
It also seems like they don’t have a mortgage and they bought the house relatively early in their marriage meaning that Vernon was able to buy the house probably before Dudley was born.
Were the Dursleys rich or is it just my 27 year old brain unaware of how good things were back then?

My daughter turns the magical number 11 today so I decided to bake her a birthday cake. I had to keep it chocolate because that was her choice & i know that Hagrid’s looked homemade but that second P is really stressing me out. Overall, I’m very proud of myself! Thoughts? & please be kind!

Yes, I know that a little insensitive since Daniel was actually allergic to the eye contact lenses which is why he didn't have green eyes in the movies, but I just saw a post about the casting for Lily Potter and a side-by-side of her and the actor for Harrys eyes and they are both very blue. I'm just very surprised that with all this modern technology that we can't finally give Harry his iconic green eyes. I feel like that would have been one thing this series would have taken advantage of!

Ron's face for it was an interesting choice.

Well, for me, I'd love to see how Hermione actually found out she was a witch in the first season. The books mention that muggle-borns don't just get regular owl mail, so a teacher has to physically visit their house. Seeing McGonagall sitting in a normal suburban living room explaining Hogwarts to Hermione's parents would be such a cool worldbuilding scene.

Has anyone else seen this version? Upon opening it, the format was strange. You'd think with its size, they could've cramped the whole thing but no. The font was set in comic sans and they were enlarged as well. Not to mention, its missing not even HALF of the book. Definitely one of the goofiest Harry Potter book versions I've ever seen.

What if Harry had drank the potion to get the Horcruxes instead of Dumbledore?
I think Dumbledore would have had his wits about him to defend himself in the tower.
I know the arrangement him and snape had mad would still happen but would Dumbledore would have more time find the Horcruxes.
Sorry for the grammar on on three and half hours of sleep.

Mine is when bellatrix lestrange yells “I KILLED SIRIUS BLACKKKKKK”
Me and my spouse use it all the time around the house. Sometimes randomly or sometimes to piss eachother off.

Who is the most overrated wizard in terms of raw ability in HP?
I personally think it is Bellatrix. Got disarmed by Ron in Malfoy Manor. So embarassing.
And than lost to Ron's mother in the battle...
What about you?
(OK Lockhart is a serious candidate, but if you want to answer him, I'd like to hear an additional non-Lockhart answer.)

Me and my sister quote Dudley's birthday present scene at least 4 times a day. We always quote the movie version until Aunt Petunia says "how about this, when we go out we'll buy you two new presents how's that pumpkin?" because the movies cuts off after that part we always add the "so that means I'll have 30...30..." "39 sweetems" "oh". And sometimes I'll say the "little tike knows how to get his moneys worth" after that

First off, the scenes in the Gryffindor bedroom definitely look like they were shot later during reshoots.
Also, in the end scene where Harry talks to Dumbledore, the bright lighting makes it really clear that Daniel is wearing a wig. My guess is he had already cut his hair short by the time they came back for pickup shots, so they had to cover it up.
In some other scenes with darker lighting, they didn't even bother hiding it properly, you can clearly tell Harry suddenly has a much shorter haircut.

When you think of Hogwarts as essentially a boarding school, and the wild hairstyles throughout the universe, I'd assume most wizards magic up their own hair but Hogwarts or Hogsmeade has to atleast have a hairdresser somewhere for students right?? (completely headcanon)

Anyone else think it odd that Slughorn completely ignored Ron when trying to find potential "rising stars" for his network of influential people?
A family as big as the Weasleys, if Slughorn made a good impression with Ron and Ginny, he'd potentially be able to make contacts with 2 ministry officials, the owners of the biggest (and most profitable) shop in Diagon Alley, Gringotts, and the foreign dragon market. And that's just the Weasleys we know of.

We know that it was Harry’s relations to Petunia that allowed Lily’s sacrifice to continue, assuming Voldemort knows, couldn’t he just kill petunia and the rest of the Dursley’s and brake the protections?
